walker 0 Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) Hi all News Corp continue to be under investigation for even more computer hacking in the US. http://mediamatters.org/blog/201108150005 This is along with FBI investigations into the hacking of 9/11 victims and family phones and emails. The latest hacking investigations also include cover ups which amount to criminal conspiracy to obstruct justice and are perhaps the most serious criminal charges yet that a declining News Corp faces. Since the hacking scandals broke News Corp lost almost a third of its value and is having to sell assets at loss to buy back shares in order to prop up the company. News Corp is also facing increasing numbers of civil action not just from its hacking victims but also from its ex employees. While other former employees are going the deal route with the police making News Corp's legal position a long term risk on News Corp's shares. There are increasing volume and price flutuation signs that show short trading in News Corp is taking place. walker 0 Posted August 16, 2011 (edited) Hi all Breaking News! James Murdoch and many other senior executives of News Corp are to be recalled before Parliament after a letter was released showing they knowingly lied to Parliament. Correspondence shows a large scale cover up at New Corp: Phone hacking: News of the World reporter's letter reveals cover-upDisgraced royal correspondent Clive Goodman's letter says phone hacking was 'widely discussed' at NoW meetings Nick Davies guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 16 August 2011 12.34 BST Rupert Murdoch, James Murdoch and their former editor Andy Coulson all face embarrassing new allegations of dishonesty and cover-up after the publication of an explosive letter written by the News of the World's disgraced royal correspondent, Clive Goodman. In the letter, which was written four years ago but published only on Tuesday, Goodman claims that phone hacking was "widely discussed" at editorial meetings at the paper until Coulson himself banned further references to it; that Coulson offered to let him keep his job if he agreed not to implicate the paper in hacking when he came to court; and that his own hacking was carried out with "the full knowledge and support" of other senior journalists, whom he named. The claims are acutely troubling for the prime minister, David Cameron, who hired Coulson as his media adviser on the basis that he knew nothing about phone hacking. And they confront Rupert and James Murdoch with the humiliating prospect of being recalled to parliament to justify the evidence which they gave last month on the aftermath of Goodman's allegations. In a separate letter, one of the Murdochs' own law firms claim that parts of that evidence were variously "hard to credit", "self-serving" and "inaccurate and misleading"... http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/aug/16/phone-hacking-now-reporter-letter As always follow the link to the original article in full As you can perhaps tell News Corp's former lawyers who the Murdochs tried to use as yet another scapegoat are said to be furious with the Murdochs and even the newest trial lawyers are said to be sipping with the Murdochs with a long spoon. Nick Davis the Journalist investigating hacking at News Corp has been in America for the past few weeks investigating leads to an even more shocking scandal in the US. The FBI is also following other leads. Multiple letters including ones from James Murdoch have been published on Parliament's website: http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/culture-media-and-sport-committee/news/further-news-international-correspondence/ The News is only just breaking on the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14541848 ITN is also covering the story: oXSw-9u09Zc The use of News Corp websites and servers to hack customers private information around the world is probably the big story that the investigative journalists are following. It is believed computer hacking is just one of the lines of enquiry the FBI are following. Hacking the computers of people visiting websites has been a method of gaining covert surveilance on visitors on several mallware sites. The use of such malware would cause News Corp to run foul of international privacy and computer fraud laws. walker 0 Posted August 18, 2011 (edited) Hi all Breaking News! Yet another person from News Corp has been arrested for phone hacking. This time it is a Hollywood Reporter. Phone hacking: News of the World Hollywood reporter arrestedA former News of the World Hollywood reporter has been arrested over phone-hacking allegations, which may deepen Rupert Murdoch’s troubles in the US. By James Kirkup 11:23AM BST 18 Aug 2011 James Desborough, a showbusiness reporter at the paper was arrested this morning in London. He is the 13th person arrested over allegations that journalists working there illegally accessed private voicemail messages. His arrest may attract particular attention because from April 2009, he worked in Los Angeles for the tabloid covering the US celebrity scene. Claims that NotW staff carried out hacking and other illegal activities have raised a major legal and political threat to News Corp, the paper’s New York-based global parent company. US authorities are said to be considering allegations – so far unproven -- that the paper illegally targeted the voicemails of survivors of the September 11 attacks... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/phone-hacking/8708463/Phone-hacking-News-of-the-World-Hollywood-reporter-arrested.html As always follow the link to the original article in full It also appears that News Corp lied to parliament when it said that the police had redacted a letter given in evidence to the select committee. News Internatonal letter 'was not redacted by police'News International’s controversial decision to alter a critical letter submitted to a parliamentary inquiry was not directly demanded by the police, the Daily Telegraph can reveal. 11:45PM BST 17 Aug 2011 The company has been accused of a cover-up after it gave MPs a significantly redacted version of a letter, written by Clive Goodman, the former royal editor at the News of the World. The revelation came as David Cameron admitted he would not have employed Andy Coulson, the former editor of the News of the World, if he had “known then what I know nowâ€. James Murdoch, the chairman of News International, also faced calls to resign over the scandal. The Goodman letter, sent four years ago, alleges that a secret deal was agreed in which he would keep his job if he did not “implicate†other members of the tabloid paper’s staff. He also alleged that editors at the tabloid, including Andy Coulson, supported phone hacking. On Tuesday News International claimed that the document was altered at the request of Scotland Yard. However, their explanation came under scrutiny after a much fuller version of the same letter was released by law firm Harbottle & Lewis... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/phone-hacking/8707918/News-Internatonal-letter-was-not-redacted-by-police.html As always follow the link to the original article in full This comes among increasingly frightening revelations about the frankly evil and often criminal way that News Corp operate: A life unravelled … whistleblower who incurred wrath of the Murdoch empireRelentless legal pursuit of ex-News Corp employee likened to 'Rambo tactics'Ed Pilkington in New York guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 17 August 2011 19.09 BST Five years ago Robert Emmel was enjoying the American dream. He lived in a detached house in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, drove a BMW, and earned $140,000 a year as an accounts director in a highly successful advertising company called News America Marketing. Today, Emmel is described by his lawyers as destitute. Jobless and in debt, he was discharged from bankruptcy last year. He does occasional consultancy work that last month brought in $500, and this month, court documents show, will probably produce nothing. His wife's earnings raise monthly household income to about $3,000 – half their outgoings. This is a cautionary tale about what can happen to someone who dares to become a corporate whistleblower. Or, more specifically, someone who incurs the wrath of News Corporation, the media empire owned by Rupert Murdoch, of which News America forms a part. Emmel's lawyer, Philip Hilder, has had a ringside seat at the gradual unravelling of his client's life. A former federal prosecutor based in Houston, Texas, Hilder is well versed in whistleblower cases having represented Sherron Watkins, who helped uncover the Enron scandal. Hilder said: "News America has engaged in Rambo litigation tactics. In the US renewed investigations in to the corruption at News Corp are gathering pace. Robert GreenwaldSeven Years After Outfoxed, Murdoch's Empire Continues Corruption Posted: 8/17/11 02:04 PM ET Seven years ago, Brave New Films and I exposed Rupert Murdoch's top down journalism at FOX News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know. As recent news makes clear, Murdoch only has continued to lead a legacy of corrupting journalism and harming the public interest. The latest information released reveals how widespread internal knowledge and support was around wiretapping practices. We've learned that the Murdochs lied before parliament, and this story is far from over. In the wake of Murdoch's NewsCorp scandal, it is more pertinent than ever to revisit Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism and work to restore integrity in journalism. As we've seen in the last seven years, Murdoch's empire won't stop their corruption without the eyes of the world demanding they be held accountable. In order to celebrate the anniversary of Outfoxed, I thought it would be most fitting to host an anniversary event that features clips from Outfoxed, as well as timely commentary from notable media and public figures. Gathering some of the brightest minds out there, the event included Cenk Uygur (The Young Turks; former MSNBC host), Janeane Garofalo (Actor/Comedian), Katrina vanden Heuvel (The Nation), Eli Pariser (MoveOn.org), James Rucker (ColorofChange.org), Ilyse Hogue (Media Matters) and Ellen Brodsky (News Hounds). I also answered live and previously submitted questions from the audience. The current Murdoch investigation continues to unveil the criminality, corruption, distortion and overall unethical behavior woven through the NewsCorp fabric. Seeing that Brave New Films has thoroughly examined how NewsCorp has long blurred the line between corporate interests and journalistic integrity, the Outfoxed 7th anniversary event was a great opportunity to inform and inspire people across the spectrum... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-greenwald/seven-years-after-outfoxe_b_929500.html As always follow the link to the original article in full Frankly as I said when it was revealed that News Corp were involved tracking children in school and Illegally using private UAVs that could hack phones and Wifi networks Hi allAn interesting article about how the Murdoch Mafia empire conducts its political manipulations, how MP Tom Watson was stalked and hunted by News Corp in order to prevent him uncovering the hacking and other criminal activities they were carrying out against thousands of individuals in every walk of life. Given James Murdoch's previous history of blaming it all on underlings; it may be sensible for them to get their evidence in first. walker 0 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) Hi all In reply to b101_uk: You seem to be spinning this as a minor issue I think you may not understand its full implications or what is at issue. The point of the story and thread is News Corp. There are several key factors that the information reveals: 1) News Corp adjust their news for political leverage That News Corp have a policy to spin stories to gain political leverage; in this case over George Osbourne. Coulson helped ‘spin’ Osborne drug allegation, claims prostitute 13 Sep 2011 ANDY COULSON helped George Osborne spin headlines linking him to drug-taking and a dominatrix, it was claimed last night, as the phone-hacking scandal took another dramatic turn. Mr Coulson, then editor of the News of the World, was later hired by the Tory party, apparently on the recommendation of the Chancellor. In an interview on Australian television, former prostitute Natalie Rowe repeated claims she had taken cocaine with the Tory politician... http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/politics/coulson-helped-spin-osborne-drug-allegation-claims-prostitute-1.1123291?localLinksEnabled=false As always follow the link to the story in full Coulson started writing favourable editorials on George Osborne http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/georgeosborne/8757453/George-Osborne-allegations-Andy-Coulsons-favourable-editorial.html News Corp hack peoples phones to gain power over them and George Osborne was no exception. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/chancellor-was-targeted-by-news-of-the-worlds-hacker-says-dominatrix-2339692.html Essentially the new information nails down the fact that News Corp work in this way, something they have been trying to obfuscate and the key issue that the Parliamentary Committee and now the Judge are investigating. 2) Thus with this lever George Osbourne essentially became Coulson's puppet George Osbourne was even Defending Coulson as the story began to break: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/video/2011/jan/27/george-osborne-defends-andy-coulson-video Osbourne owed Coulson and could never escape the power News Corp had over him, without destroying his political carreer.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/phone-hacking/8758929/Phone-Hacking-George-Osborne-owed-Andy-Coulson-says-lawyer.html George Osborne was the main advocate for the Prime Minister to take on Coulson we now know that it was Osbourne who persuaded the Prime Minister to accept Coulson as his press secretary. Something Rebekah Brooks let slip in evidense to MPs on the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee: ... “It was George Osborne, the Chancellor’s, idea that when Andy Coulson left the News of the World they should start ******discussions with him on whether he [would] be the appropriate person to go into Tory HQ.†... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/2011/07/20/rebekah-brooks-defends-friendship-with-david-cameron-115875-23283023/ As always follow the link to the story in full 3) Breach of Security at the highest level What is more disturbing is that for some as yet unknown reason Coulson did not undergo a proper security vetting! Something even Prime Ministers must go through, and that every other Press Secretary in the past has been through. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/jul/27/coulson-security-clearance-not-disclosed And the low level security check he was given was by some one who also worked for, would you believe it, Drum Role Please: News Corp! http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/andy-coulson-vetted-by-investigator-linked-to-news-international-2333257.html Thus there has been a consequent Breach of UK security at the Highest level, that is to say; in the Prime Minister's Office, raising questions that the Government seem too frightened to answer such as: ...1. While working in Downing Street, did Andy Coulson at any time have unsupervised access to information designated Top Secret or above? 2. Did Andy Coulson ever attend National Security Council, Cobra or cabinet meetings? 3. Did Andy Coulson ever attend a meeting relating to Afghanistan, UK military matters or counter-terrorism at which intelligence was discussed? 4. Did Andy Coulson attend meetings relating to the strategic defence and security review? 5. Did Andy Coulson see documents or attend briefings about the terror incident at East Midlands airport in October 2010 for which he did not have appropriate security clearance? 6. Did Andy Coulson take part in any briefings related to US warnings of Mumbai-style commando attacks in September, when intelligence sources said they had uncovered the early stages of an al-Qaida plot to carry out co-ordinated attacks in the UK, France and Germany? 7. Did Andy Coulson ever attend intelligence briefings while accompanying the prime minister on foreign trips? 8. Were White House or State Department officials informed that Andy Coulson was not DV ["developed vetting"] vetted when he accompanied David Cameron on his visit to Washington in July 2010? Did he attend any part of Cameron's meeting with President Obama? 9. Did Andy Coulson attend the prime minister's meeting with General Petraeus in Downing Street in October or receive briefings based on it? 10. Did Andy Coulson attend any meeting between the prime minister and Asif Ali Zardari, the Pakistani president, at Chequers in August, when intelligence or military matters were discussed, for which he did not have security clearance? 11. Did Andy Coulson attend any meetings between the prime minister and other Nato leaders in Lisbon in November when intelligence or military matters were discussed for which he did not have security clearance? 12. Which officials or ministers were informed of Jeremy Heywood's decision in May 2010 not to subject Andy Coulson to developed vetting? 13. One of the reasons given for not subjecting Andy Coulson to developed vetting was cost. Is it correct that the cost of developed vetting to No 10 is £500? 14. We understand that the company that screened Andy Coulson on behalf of the Conservative party in 2007 was Control Risks Screening. Was Andy Coulson subjected to the firm's "standard" check (at a cost of £150.40) or the "express" check (£145.70)? ... http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/blog/2011/jul/27/andy-coulson-guardian-questions As always follow the link to the story in full 4) George Osborne took cocaine, and had an interest in masochistic sex This in itself is I think is the least important issue. Clearly his credentials to talk on the issue of drugs and prostitution are now suspect, and the fact that he was a party to paying cocaine dealers, opens him up to being a seccurity liability. 5) It is the cover up that made George Osborne suceptable to blackmail that is important George Osborne made it gigantic by the classic political error of covering it up. He thought it so important to hide that he was willing to betray his nation to a frankly evil organisation by inviting their agent in to the heart of the UK Government and has thus failed his own security vetting. The most important question you are asked in vetting is whether you have anything that may make you a security risk, clearly Osborne should have fessed up to the cocaine and his relationship to the Dominatrix then; and by not doing so he has blown his own security clearance; as we do not know how and in what ways it may have been used to blackmail him in the past and now we cannot trust him to fess up to any other potential blackmail levers. And that is how his political carreer has been destroyed. By the way William Hill just dropped the odds on George Osborne resigning to make him the favourite for next to resign. To a large extent I think George Osborne was victim of News Corp just the same as Milly Dowler's family were. That is News Corps's Modus Operandi, and why it has now been revealed; by the fact he too, was a Target of News Corp phone hacking: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/chancellor-was-targeted-by-news-of-the-worlds-hacker-says-dominatrix-2339692.html 6) Conclusion It is about how News Corp gain control of democratic nations and use it for influence and their own monetary advancement as part of their business model: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-09-11/murdoch-makes-no-retreat-from-scandals-with-attack-in-australia.html The consequences What this all adds up to is corruption and manipulation of the UK body Politic. And a Question for you b101_uk Either you care about this country, b101_uk or you don't; so which is it b101_uk? Kind Regards walker ---------- Post added at 04:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:37 PM ---------- Hi all Australian Government announces probe into News Corp media holdings. Australia to hold media inquiry Australia will hold an independent inquiry into the media after growing criticism of reporting in newspapers run by Rupert Murdoch's company News Limited. By Bonnie Malkin, Sydney 9:56AM BST 13 Sep 2011 While the terms of reference for the inquiry are yet to be released, it is understood it will focus on privacy and strengthening the power of media watchdogs. But the Greens Party, which has been calling for an inquiry into the country's media since the News of the World scandal erupted in Britain, also wants the inquiry to consider revising media ownership laws. News Limited currently controls 70 per cent of the newspapers in Murdoch's native country, including the nation's only national newspaper. The Greens, who have accused the company of bias, want the laws changed to water down his stranglehold on the press. However, the government insisted that the inquiry was not out to "get News Ltd". "This is not about attacking any one media company," one government source said. Despite the reassurance, the inquiry comes amid acrimony between News Limited and Julia Gillard's government. Ms Gillard first brought up the prospect of an inquiry after the phone hacking scandal in Britain was revealed. She said that Australians were "disturbed" by what they have seen happen in the UK and that the company had "hard questions to answer"... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/australia/8759338/Australia-to-hold-media-inquiry.html As always follow the link to the original text in full Meanwhile James Murdoch is to be called back before Parliament in the UK. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/09/13/ap/extras/main20105340.shtml With the prospect of being him arrested for misleading Parliament and spending time in the Cells where the Pie man spent some time, or being arrested for conspiracy in bribing the police and impeding a criminal investigation, his lawyers may be advising him to resign and stay out of the UK for the foreseeable future. b101_uk 10 Posted September 13, 2011 You could wish to take the conspiracy theorist view and assume the worst connotation of each possibility. Its only really people who have insecurity’s over “drugs†& “sex†who actually perpetuate the worst connotation by the fact of trying to make hay out of such things. Cocaine is nice, sex is nice, cocaine AND sex is better! he was young, on the balance of probability she would have been in the more likely position of being able to get cocaine (job/employer/etc NOT skin colour), the “substance†in the pictures is by her and not him and to be honest he has a more “I’m quite drunken on wine†look about him which rather precludes cocaine use ;) In all honesty if you were looking for a “Press Secretary†then is an ex-editor of a national newspaper who hasn’t been to overly critical of the conservatives wile an editor not a good choice for such a job on his own merits and skillset given the public dislike for the likes of e.g. Piers Morgan :p (another ex News Corp man). walker 0 Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) Hi all How Murdoch's empire corrupted Politicians right up to Prime Minsters. Letters and emails dating back decades make it clear how Murdoch gained the power he did: Murdoch's meeting with Thatcher exposes his modus operandi... Roy Greenslade Saturday 17 March 2012 01.53 GMT ... Rupert Murdoch has been caught out by yet another paper trail. The secret 1981 meeting between him and Margaret Thatcher was exposed because two documents were preserved - the note of the meeting at Chequers and Murdoch's thank you letter. Similarly, his company's recent problems stem from the existence of Glenn Mulcaire's extensive documentation of his phone hacking activities on behalf of the News of the World. And it is the Wapping email archive - a virtual paper trail, if you like - that has exposed yet more extensive misbehaviour within Murdoch's News International outfit. In the end, as Murdoch may well reflect on re-reading his letter to Thatcher and Bernard Ingham's sober note of their meeting, the truth will out. Mind you, it has taken 30 years for us to discover that truth. At last we know what many people - especially the then Sunday Times editor, Harold Evans - suspected at the time: Thatcher and Murdoch did talk about his bid to acquire The Times and Sunday Times. The meeting amounted, at the very least, to a lobbying exercise by Murdoch. Reading between the lines it is possible to see it as a subtle plea for assistance. He is making it clear that he is the perfect man to acquire the newspapers. He is the man to deal with the unions. Without even needing to say it explicitly, Thatcher also understands what Murdoch's ownership can do for her. Here, for the first time, is Murdoch's modus operandi laid bare. Throughout his long career, he has used political "friendship" to secure commercial advantage... http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/greenslade/2012/mar/17/rupert-murdoch-thetimes As Alway follow the link to the text of the original in full Not surprising that the US is now investigating News Corp and its subsiduaries under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act it now appears that Murdoch has once again shot the messenger: News Corp dropped top US anti-bribery lawyer from its legal teamAmid possible US prosecution, leading expert on FCPA stopped advising Murdoch empire soon after he was hired this summer Ed Pilkington in New York guardian.co.uk, Monday 5 March 2012 22.35 GMT News Corporation, Rupert Murdoch's media empire that is under investigation by the FBI for possible violation of US anti-bribery laws, is no longer being advised by Mark Mendelsohn, one of the world's leading experts on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Mendelsohn was taken on by News Corp last July to head its legal team, advising the company on how to prepare for potential prosecution under the act as a result of the UK phone-hacking scandal. But the Guardian has learned that he was let go almost as soon as he was hired. Mendelsohn was brought on board by Murdoch amid the maelstrom that followed the Guardian's revelation that the News of the World had hacked into the mobile phone of missing teenager Milly Dowler. His hiring by News Corp came first reported just two weeks after the Dowler story broke by one of Murdoch's own newspapers, the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper said he had been retained from Paul Weiss, the international legal firm where he has worked as a partner since leaving the justice department in 2010. Mendelsohn has consistently been reported over the past eight months to be acting as a leading legal adviser to News Corp on FCPA. However, his formal relationship with the company ended last summer, shortly after he was taken on by the firm. Under the FCPA, companies headquartered in the US, such as News Corp, are liable to prosecution if they can be shown to have engaged in bribery of officials in foreign countries for company gain... http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/mar/05/news-corporation-fcpa-lawyer As Alway follow the link to the text of the original in full It is no wonder News Corp shares are performing so badly and the boards that the Murdoch's are on are busy pushing them off the ledge. (NWSA)’s independent directors should oust Deputy Chief Operating Officer James Murdoch from the media company’s board, said CtW Investment Group, an adviser to union-sponsored pension funds with more than $200 billion in assets. Auction house Sotheby’s (BID) said March 16 that Murdoch will leave its board, following demands he resign over his role in a U.K. phone-hacking scandal. It was the third influential position he gave up in as many months, resigning from the board of GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK) in January and as executive chairman of News Corp.’s U.K. publishing unit News International last month. Murdoch also faces calls to step down from News Corp.’s board and as chairman of British Sky Broadcasting Group Plc. “The rest of the News Corp. board and British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSY) have not responded to the credibility concerns of having James continue to serve on their boards,†CtW Senior Analyst Michael Pryce-Jones said in a phone interview. CtW advises investors who together own about 8.3 million Class A shares of News Corp., according to Pryce-Jones. Jack Horner, a spokesman for News Corp., declined to comment. News Corp. shareholders in October lodged a protest vote against Rupert Murdoch and his sons, following an annual meeting at which investors called for governance changes and an end to voting practices that cement the family’s control of the company. James received the highest percentage of votes against his election to the board, at 35 percent. In November, one-third of BSkyB’s independent shareholders voted against James Murdoch’s re-election as chairman. News Corp. owns 39 percent of BSkyB. News Corp. rose less than 1 percent to $20.12 at the close in New York. The shares have gained 13 percent this year... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-19/news-corp-s-board-should-oust-james-murdoch-ctw-says-1-.html As Alway follow the link to the text of the original in full Lawmaker Tom Watson, a member of the UK's Labour party and Parliament's Culture Committee, said in July that Murdoch should face criminal charges and was unsuitable to be a director of BSkyB.Murdoch "must be the first mafia boss in history who didn't know he was running a criminal enterprise," Watson said last year. Ibid My use of bold in this quote Apparently there are a mass of emails that have been discovered at the Indian email servers that Murdoch's empire tried to shred that are said to be "Bomb Shells". These have been mooted to be the cause for international arrest warrants to be issued against senior News Corp board members.
