Pvtpile1981 10 Posted June 10, 2011 Ive just upgraded my system to an i5 2500k new MB and a 8 gig of DDR3 ram and ArmA II still drops into the low 20's in mutliplayer and singleplayer. Now I understand that ArmA is a hungry beast but I thought at least my game would stay in the 30's and not lag with my new system. Ive just done a fresh install of Windows 7 64 all the right and latest drivers for my GFX card and everything eles im kinda stumped TBH I thought even at stock the i5 2500k would solve my bad fps drop issue. One thing I did notice while playing online ArmA II was only using 1 core and it was running at between 40% and 60% with very little activity on all othere 3 cores. System spec and ArmA settings below. Windows 7 64 i5 2500k @ stock Asrock P67 PRO Western Digital Black 600 Corsair 650W TX Gigabyte GTX 460 G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Any help is MORE than welcome thank you! cannonouscrash 12 Posted June 10, 2011 I got my self the i52500k a few weeks back, along with an SSD and the GTX570. but i have no problems, i get between 35 and 60 fps depending on the amount of AI running around. Check your picture size, Waaaaaaay to big, gotta be less than a 100kb. I have OC'd my 2500 but only to 4.0ghz, give that a try and see what happens.
liquidpinky 11 Posted June 10, 2011 Arma 2 loves CPU speed. ;) If I had known i5s were so easy to OC at the time I would probably have had one of them instead of my i7.
ginger mcale 11 Posted June 10, 2011 Got the same CPU, overclocked it to 4.8 ghz. I made the same observation (game is not using all the CPU power) but my FPS are very nice.

BigMorgan 11 Posted June 11, 2011 What command line are you using to launch the game? -cpuCount=4 and -exThreads=7 could help a lot.
Horus 83 Posted June 11, 2011 One thing I did notice while playing online ArmA II was only using 1 core and it was running at between 40% and 60% with very little activity on all othere 3 cores. Disable Core Parking Windows 7 Tweak may improve your performance :bounce3: The ProblemCore Parking is a feature of Windows 7 that is causing rare performance problems. I don't notice it on my home i7 / Win7 system but some people are getting microstutters and odd behavior in certain programs. Without the following " tweak" you may see CPU spiking in your programs and Windows Task Manager - some CPU cores will be "turned off" / "parked" depending on load and they will be dynamically turned on or off and dynamically loaded up or down as the system deems necessary - the scope for glitchs / pops / clicks / droputs etc.... in such an environment is simply enormous. To the best of my knowledge, there is no known "switch" to turn it off - no utility I am aware of to "tweak" it off. The Fix - Go to Regedit - Select Edit > Find... and find this key: " 0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583 " - Within this key, there is a value called: " ValueMax " This value represents the % number of cores the system will park - Change the value of " ValueMax" to 0 so that, it matches " ValueMin " - You will have to find the key a few times and repeat the process for each time it is found - the number of instances will depend on the number of power profiles in your system. To do this go back up to Edit > Find Next. (I had 3 instances of this key in my registry.) - Do a full shutdown and power-off and cold-re-start. The Result Better load balancing across all you CPU cores - no spiking - in Windows 7 Task Manager
Pvtpile1981 10 Posted June 11, 2011 (edited) Thanx for the all the replies :), Ive tried the cpu command line and changed those registery numbers but it still looks like its not using anywhere near the full power of the processor for some reason infact it doesn't even look like its using 1 core fully which is kinda weird. Ohh I have tried OC ing but there is something wrong with my board I can't even OC up to 4GHz so I might return it, now I know some of you probably think this is the problem but BC2 works fine and uses all cores and so do my othere games that use multi cores. **Does anyone know of a program that lets you monitor CPU usage ingame?? this would be nice.** Edited June 11, 2011 by Pvtpile1981

pendragonuk 0 Posted June 13, 2011 This may sound wrong but I have been looking at your graphics settings. Maybe your CPU isn't stressed because it's doing all it's being asked to do. The Anisotropic filtering and anti aliasing could be maxing your g/card. Might want to turn off the Antialiasing completely, at least while you test. Free up the g/card from having to process too much to shift the attention to the CPU. Win7 can monitor and track CPU/Mem/hard drive for you and give you a trace to look at after you play. type Resource Monitor in the search box on the "start" menu. I normaly get a few extra frames per second from turning on post processing but it makes me feel a little sick :( Try this but with the correct screen and 3D rez for your screen. You may have to play with the view distance. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
