Hedo 10 Posted May 14, 2011 That's definately (probably edited) real photo. Look at the grass. No way that could be ingame.
Tankbuster 1746 Posted May 14, 2011 Going back to the original picture, I wonder why there's a smoke cloud in the distance.
Daniel 0 Posted May 14, 2011 Unless they've been working on it for over a year or reinforced the terrain team, it seems unlikely. I can't guess how long any terrain might have been in production, but I think they were adding to the terrain team with the creation of Proving Grounds. I wonder why there's a smoke cloud in the distance. I'm assuming that was added to give it a 'warry' feel.
Tankbuster 1746 Posted May 14, 2011 I'm assuming that was added to give it a 'warry' feel. Yeah. Given it's apparent distance, it's quite a big smoke cloud.
cannonouscrash 12 Posted May 14, 2011 Apart from the helicopters, Its the electricity poles/wires that make it look unreal to me
WackyIraqi 2 Posted May 14, 2011 What is this "new technology" everybody keeps talking about that was used to make Proving Grounds? Is there any documentation about it laying around?
cannonouscrash 12 Posted May 14, 2011 What is this "new technology" everybody keeps talking about that was used to make Proving Grounds? Is there any documentation about it laying around? Something... like the terrain mesh was alot smaller than used to make any previous map made by BIS
flyinghigh 10 Posted May 14, 2011 what is all this? http://min.us/mvjlsdw#
Daniel 0 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) What is this "new technology" everybody keeps talking about that was used to make Proving Grounds? Is there any documentation about it laying around? Have a skim over this. PMC's Proving Grounds initially started as something of a 'proving grounds' for learning new techniques associated with the creation of environments......the map was initially developed as an experimental terrain... Basically more detail at the cost of a smaller map. what is all this?http://min.us/mvjlsdw#1 Ok, left to right: Gasholders, plume of smoke, don't know (hangers?), SPAAG(?), helicopter (coaxial?), signpost, helicopter (KA-series?), parked aircraft, God only knows. whisper 0 Posted May 14, 2011 Heli to the right is Mi-28, with radar mast, I'd say EDIT : looking closer, yes, it's looks like contra rotative coaxial.... strange
contrails 10 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) http://maps.google.com/maps?q=39.935665,25.234748&num=1&t=h&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=23.875,57.630033&ie=UTF8&ll=39.935474,25.234405&spn=0.001744,0.006464&z=18 I'm thinking this is the approximate location of where the picture was taken: only one airfield on the whole island, building matches up, water matches up, etc That would mean the town on fire is called Lyncha. Is that significant? EDIT: heli on the right could be Ka-50 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Russian_Air_Force_Kamov_Ka-50.jpg) Edited May 14, 2011 by Contrails
2nd ranger 282 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) That would mean the town on fire is called Lyncha. Is that significant? Since BIS tend not to set their games in real locations, it would be reasonable to assume that the island won't be called Lemnos and that town won't be called Lyncha. EDIT Also not that it matters, but I think the location the picture was taken was actually here. Edited May 14, 2011 by 2nd Ranger

Daniel 0 Posted May 14, 2011 On the big ass telephone pole - i see set of 5 white "marks" - anybody able to decipher it?? They look to be rungs, spars or spare terminals, notice the top one has a line running from it.

TeamLandowar 0 Posted May 14, 2011 Probably so. Trying to catch anything that has not been spotted yet. Next hack is due on noon, Monday if im correct. Funny how this corelates with sheduled press-conference on Monday morning... If actually se are getting an announcement on that conference, ill be pissed... it will just confirm my fears that the game was set to "unwinable" and that there was nothing solid to get out of this. In case of previous gaming ARGs that i can remember (thinking about 2 Valve's Portal ARGs) players had opportunity to "discover" that Portal 2 is in the making, and then to actually speed up it's release (yeah by puny hours but still it was a "win" option)

rekrul 7 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) Ok, the poles are either photoshopped in or mounted after the Google satellite took the pictures. I assume the picture is taken around here: http://rakrul.grimtask.com/lemnos1.png Now if you look at the terminal you can see shadows from the various poles there: http://rakrul.grimtask.com/lemnos2.png but if you look at the road, there are no shadows there: http://rakrul.grimtask.com/lemnos3.png Edit: I guess the 5 lines that are terminated to the middle of the pole, not being connected to anything, might be of significance?
