Wicked_Sick 10 Posted April 24, 2011 Hi, I am new to this game and I am loving it. But there are somethings that I do not understand in the map screen, click here to see the image What means the numbers marked wih a red circle? And what are the meaning of the 106 on the GPS. The rest I did figure it out already. Thx in advance.
pooroldspike 129 Posted April 24, 2011 What's the name of the mission? Is it AA2 or AO? Tell me and I'll look at it myself. I think the mission creator put the red circles to tell you something. The numbers are the height of the land in metres. Is it the Chernarus map?
Wicked_Sick 10 Posted April 24, 2011 Thx for your quickly reply, PoorOldSpike (: It's Arma 2, main campaign, mission Razor Two. About the red circles I was the who did then to highlight the numbers making confusion.
no use for a name 0 Posted April 24, 2011 (edited) The numbers are there to mark elevation (in meters above sea level) on the map. That way it's easier to understand where the hills/valleys are. The triangles mark peaks/summits Edited April 24, 2011 by No Use For A Name
pooroldspike 129 Posted April 24, 2011 The numbers are called 'spot heights'. The 106 on your GPS is your height where you're standing. If you move to a spot height on the map (for example 336), the number 336 will be on your GPS..:)
Wicked_Sick 10 Posted April 24, 2011 hmmm I see now. Thx a lot for clarify this to me. I really mean it. Thx, guys.
rangerpl 13 Posted April 24, 2011 And of course, a number along one of the "lines" on the map means that everything along that line will have that altitude. So lots of lines close together indicate steep terrain.
Laqueesha 474 Posted April 25, 2011 The dots and numbers represent the height of the ground, specifically, the height of the ground above sea level in metres, if I recall correctly. Usually, the dots will appear on the tops and peaks of hills and mountains, respectively. What does this mean? Well, it means that the higher in value the number is, the taller the hill/mountain it is associated with will be. Hope this helps. ;) EDIT: Looks like somebody already beat me to it. CarlGustaffa 4 Posted April 26, 2011 Anyone know the elevation difference between each contour or main contour line at different zoom levels? It's always divided into "main - sub - sub - sub - sub - main...", but there is no description on what the equidistance/contour interval is.
maturin 12 Posted April 26, 2011 Get two guys with GPS and have one of them walk a few feet up a slope. I'm guessing 5 meters.
pooroldspike 129 Posted April 27, 2011 Incidentally there are some terrain screenshots and maps here which help us visualise how contours and stuff tie into the 3D view- http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/showthread.php?6759-3D-RECCES

CarlGustaffa 4 Posted April 28, 2011 Yeah, thanks, but in Arma2 that line showing contour interval is removed :p But no biggie, guess there is always the hard way :D
