Question for ussoldier11b

Recommended Posts

I remember you telling me that King Sized Snickers bars got like 900 calories in them.

Are you sure? I have yet to look at a "King Sized" one, but I just looked at a normal one and it had like 250.

I am not sure. I also saw this other one that was not "King Sized" but it was a big one.

I think it was called "Jumbo" or something like that. It didn't have like 900, more around about 400 or so.

I dunno, I am just curious for camping/hitchhiking needs.

Sorry, but I gotta bump this before it gets pushed off the page.

I know, I know, the new threads are pushing stuff down fast.

Yeah, I think you're right. But it has more than 400 calories. King sized Snikers + 20 oz Pepsi is 900 calories.

My dad still has some MRE(meal ready to eat). They are about 16 years old. wow.gif Some taste good, some dont, my dads favorite when he was in the Army, was Barbeque Beef patties.Inside are like crakers, and penut butter, or jam, or cheese.Theres tobasco sause (my favorite) and gum, toilet paper, matches, and the main menu, plus fruit like pinapple.I cant rember much though.I have seen other candy, like life savers, and starbust, plus anthor i cant remeber.

There are about a dozen bags inside one main bag lol and are pretty hard to get open, if you dont have a knife. smile.gif

These are MRE's back in the 1980's and up, so im not shure what the ones now look like.

Just be glad that we have MREs instead of hardtack (way older MREs used in civil war and earlier wars). biggrin.gif

Yeah Skull viper.

Thats' the exact same thing that I get.  Big ol' buttery crackers, tobasco sause.  jam, and butter, some powdered juice.  Wet naps,  some cut up peaches, and beef chilly.

but I usually get the beef chilly, not barbeque beef patties. Or other kinds.  They even got veggetarion varieties for all you Aculauds.

I'd say that MRE's are not bad.   Some are pretty tasty.  And if you  need to eat one in a survival situation, I'm sure that they will be delicious!  But they are not that filling.

If you are really hungry, and you eat everything in one, you may still have a gnawing hunger.  That is the only disapointing about them.  You can eat them cold, or hot.  I eat them cold and they ar fine.  But you can put them entre pack in some boiling water to warm it, or they have kits for them that warm them.  Only thing is those kits produce alot of vapor smoke.

Plus they are expensive for the ammount of food that they got.  $7 for an MRE.

I always wanted to try C-rats.  Anyone here had them??

I hate MRE's. Try eating them for a month straight and not being able to shit but once a week. Some of the chemicals in MRE's make people smell intolerable. I would rather eat what the natives are eating than eat that over processed crap. No wonder refugees still hate the U.S. after we give them humanitarian aid. We air-drop them MRE's.

The 16 year old MRE's are 100% army made, and came right out of the army.I wonder if they are antiques now? smile.gif Oh and in the Army MRE's there is a heater. You just pour water into it and put it into the box that the main menu came in, bet you didnt know that. smile.gif

About MRE's leaving you hungry, they didnt when my dad was in the Army. They leave you belly aching, then you wished you didnt eat so much when you didnt lol. There is about a couple thousand calories, which a soldier needs, cause he burns it off.Not enough calories=Weakling. wow.gif

Ugh! You pay the postage and I'll mail you my surplus. I couldn't imagine paying for them. It would be like paying $7.00 for a bag of steaming dogshit.

LOL

I cant believe they're that bad. One of my other friend's brother is in the military and he hates them too. He says the only thing he eats is like the candy that they sometimes get.

Well, I don't eat MRE's all the time. So I guess that is why I don't hate them.

In fact, I love eating MRE's!

Send me some!!

Oh, and Jester.  You can buy some at any military surplus store.

But with the way USSOLDIER11B is describing his.  The ones in the stores must be newer.  Although they have all the same things in them that even Skull Viper described.

BTW, I have been looking for some military CANDY!!

I hear that they make these things that are small peices of candy that are designed for soldiers in battle.  Like a little peice has like 900 calories in it.  It is supposed to expand in your tummy.

No, I'm not talking about the stuff that comes with your MRE.

Real specific candy that is designed for the military meant to have all these calories and protein in them.

I even heard they got special gum that you chew and you absorb all this protein into your system.

You know anything about this stuff USSOLDIER11B??

Where can I get some.  None of the military surplus stores I go to ever have any of this.

Actually, the gum in MRE's is a laxitive.

All this B.S. about MRE's being specially formulated for soldiers. Ha!

1. Thet taste like shit.

2. They think of the most disgusting thing possible to preserve when developing the menus.

3. I'm sick of pound cake, I don't care if there is 10 different kinds.

4. They constipate you something aweful.

5. They are made by the lowest bidder.

There is actually are warning. Eating MRE's for extended periods of time can have a negative effect on your health.

Yeah, but they have sooo many calories.

And all the candy and gum that I was talking about was seperate from MRE's.

I am not talking about the stuff in the MRE's.

And hey, if you ever want to throw away your MRE's. Just mail them to me or Jester. I would be happy to pay shipping for a bunch instead of paying 7 bucks at the military surplus.

Provided that they have not gone bad (if they even can) or are not really old and have dangerous things in them that the govt no longer allows.

Doesn't seem like it. They never satisfy me and I always lose about 10-15 lbs if I eat them for an extended period of time. If you saw me you would see that I really don't have 10-15 lbs to lose.

I've never seen anything seperate?

I usually bring as much pogie bait as I can muster in my rucksack when we go to the field. I also carry a very compact MSR stove that can run on gasoline (petrol), White Gas, or kerosine. We usually all pitch in and buy huge containers of high quality (the stuff that rich climbers buy) dehydrated soups and stews. Beats MRE's anyday.

Well, I guess  that explains why they never satisfy or fill me up either.

But I still thought that they had alot of calories in them.

DAMMIT!!  There must be some really varieties MRE's that have tons of calories!

I still like MRE's though!! If you ever decide to get rid of yours!! Don't throw them away, just give them to me!! tounge.gif

Dude, you are wierd. Well...I guess I liked MRE's when I first joined. They were kind of a novelty. If you join the military you will hate them soon enough.

Yeah, well when I was a kid, I always wanted to eat real "army food".

I thought that it would be cool. And you get to have guns and crawl around in the mud too!
