neofit 65 Posted December 3, 2010 I am having a mind lapse, how do I exchange gear with my NPC teammates? Forum search didn't give me anything, and I swear I could do this before, but maybe it was an older game in the series. What exactly I want to do is be able to get some ammo from a teammate. The only way I have found is to give the order 6-Gear. But instead of showing me the gear, he runs towards the nearest equipment box or corpse, and opens up his gear window to start an exchange with said container. This is cumbersome and not exactly a good way to behave with enemies around. Any other way to do this?
NoRailgunner 0 Posted December 3, 2010 Its perhaps a mod/addon/script or another game.
walker 0 Posted December 3, 2010 Hi For a unit under your command: Tell the Unit to move to your location Go into the map then choose units I think it is. (I am away from ArmA at the moment) Then Select the Gear of that named unit. Drop what you want then select your self and your gear and pick it up. Do the obverse to give the AI something you have. You can also get two AI to change gear the same way. I seem to remember an ACE function that improves on this with two gear menus, next to each other, but it could have been a script. Kind Regards walker
SPC.Spets 21 Posted December 3, 2010 I think you can press F key+soldier nº, then you press "6" and then you select "gear" it will open your team mate inventory so you can exchange items, you have to be close to him, also you can open his backpack with the mouse wheel menu when you look at him
neofit 65 Posted December 4, 2010 I think you can press F key+soldier nº, then you press "6" and then you select "gear" it will open your team mate inventory so you can exchange items, you have to be close to him, also you can open his backpack with the mouse wheel menu when you look at him This is the exact procedure that I have described and that does not work. When you press 6-Gear it won't open his inventory for you no matter how close you are, it gives the teammate a command to go to the nearest container (box or corpse) and open his inventory there. Opening up a teammate's inventory only works in some scenarios with specific scripting to allow this kind of behaviour, like in PMC where you are supposed to spend a lot of ammo and the teammate's backpack is full of sniper ammo for you as per the scenario design, or when you have an optional task to take a guy's named shotgun from his backpack. But not in normal play, I could never make this work. But then: Go into the map then choose units I think it is. (I am away from ArmA at the moment) Then Select the Gear of that named unit.Drop what you want then select your self and your gear and pick it up. Do the obverse to give the AI something you have. This is pure genius! I was thinking of a way to have the dude drop stuff on the ground, but just like the "open backpack" feature, the team switch feature is also scripted and depends on the scenario. But I didn't think of trying to drop stuff on the ground from the map menu. Thanks for that!
trooper117 10 Posted December 4, 2010 I'm finding this quite astounding that this is not a fundamental and easy thing to produce in game.. In real life for instance, if the LMG man is running short of belted ammo, he will simply scream for magazines and they will be passed, thrown or handed to him from other members of the section close by.. strange how this seems to have been missed as a vital part of the game.. Having them drop it on the ground so I may pick-n-choose is fine by me.
SPC.Spets 21 Posted December 4, 2010 Anyway, if you manage to change primary weapon in action, they just use the pistol instead :s
FallujahMedic -FM- 867 Posted December 5, 2010 Didn't we simplify this in Arma with the "gear" G command? Then we seemed to have lost it with the introduction of Arma II.
Baron von Beer 0 Posted December 5, 2010 G does it for the player. The OP is trying to get the same response via AI, have them access their gear where they stand to drop things. Currently, the action menu method will make them interact with the nearest container (ammo crate, vehicle, etc). Even that has problems, if there are several nearby it's very hard to get them to use the container you want. Really need to be able to select the person (F1+) and click on the ammo box. What I usually do is to drop one item on the ground (a smoke grenade works fine) near my AI's and then use that as a "exhange point" when exchanging gears for the AI's. But as you say Baron, it can be problematic at times if there are lots of stuff nearby, when that happens I usually order my group away to a clear (and safe spot) and work it out there. /KC Edited December 5, 2010 by KeyCat
