mark turner 10 Posted November 27, 2010 Hi Guys, a new player here, so forgive the newby questions. I am running the game at 2560 x 1600 , with high antialiasing, high and very high textures and getting pretty good performance ( 25 FPS in the benchmarks, so no complaints there) Despite the high res and the other settings, the game looks really soft focus, not like the sharp screenshot images you see on the loading screens etc Whay is that do you think? Cheers, Mark
Von_Lipwig 10 Posted November 27, 2010 Perhaps because the loading screen images were kind of touched up by photoshop... or is that blasphemny? :P Alternatively, maybe some environmental colouring modules can come into play. I also find another thing that blurs a lot is Post-processing effects. If you turn those to low, is everything still fuzzy?
NeMeSiS 11 Posted November 27, 2010 Is your 3d resolution also set to 2560x1600?
dragonbaron 10 Posted November 27, 2010 Try the native resolution of you monitor (3D and menu).
Baff1 0 Posted November 27, 2010 Have you tried turning off the post processing. I find the blur FX to be a focus issue.
enad 11 Posted November 27, 2010 Make sure your 3D Res is the same or better yet, higher than your native resolution.
Leopardi 0 Posted November 27, 2010 Set post processing to Disabled. All it does is add horrible amounts of blur.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted November 27, 2010 Right, that's all it does :o
mic1402 10 Posted November 28, 2010 i had this problem. the graphics are sorta blurry right? well it's really wierd and i fixed it by changing settings in the arma2oa.cfg file. make sure you have all the settings in there. like make sure you have a "adapter" setting. to find the settings for the missing ones look at the arma 2 ones. language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=48387; Resolution_Bpp=32; Resolution_W=1440; Resolution_H=900; refresh=60; Render_W=1280; Render_H=900; FSAA=1; postFX=0; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=521732096; nonlocalVRAM=1543106560; Windowed=0; winX=0; winY=0; winW=1436; winH=860; winDefW=1440; winDefH=900; GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;
mark turner 10 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) Thanks guys , turning off the post process effect did the trick, however, changing the 3d setting to 2560 to match the interface made my frame rates plummet to 7 FPS, all other settings remaining the same!!! I stepped down the resolution to 1920 x 1200 and its gone back up to 19 FPS, but still not as high as I would like. What exactly does the 3 D setting govern? I had it set at 1280 before while my main res was at 2560 x 1600 and was getting 25 - 30 FPS Cheers, Mark Edited November 28, 2010 by mark turner
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted November 28, 2010 Using 1280 as 3D resolution means only 1280 pixels width is actually calculated. That result is then scaled up to match your interface, creating a blurred display. On the other hand, you can also render to a bigger 3D resolution, scaling it down instead. This is pretty much FSAA, where you can now enjoy information on a subpixel resulution.
cross 1 Posted November 28, 2010 you need to set the resolution to your monitor's native resolution. 3D resolution is like Full screen AA. Arma2 renders the image at the 3D resolution but scales it down/up to monitor resolution. So set the resolution to your monitor's native. Play with 3d resolution and antialiasing to get better image quality. Also lowering view distance increases FPS. As infantry you wont need more than 2k but set it to 3k. Shadow NX 1 Posted November 28, 2010 Summed up in short for OP: - Use the resolution your monitor has as native res = looks best on it - Use same value in 3D resolution - Set Post Processing to low With Low you only have very limited Blur and still get effects like Blackouts or redouts when wounded. Higher 3D resolutions may look better but will eat extreme amounts of FPS as you noticed yourself with not much gain lookwise. Just dont lower it as this looks horrible. vasmkd 12 Posted November 28, 2010 What are your system specs, that might help us a little more about knowing what fps you should be getting, and like others said ur native resolution and other video settings
-DirTyDeeDs--Ziggy- 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Baz, I suggest Memory - default, and Texture detail - High/Normal depending on your equipment.` there really is no broad, perfect answer when it comes to Arma2 performance. settings that work for me probably match a small group. :o

fruity_rudy 16 Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys, a new player here, so forgive the newby questions. I am running the game at 2560 x 1600 , with high antialiasingCheers, Mark AA kills fps , so don't wonder if you have low fps..turn it off to feel the difference, then start turning on in steps..you can also try to set 3d resolution in % value higher, for example 3d on 133% instead of using AA..i had AA off all the time, because its not playable for me and i don't know much ppl who have it enabled.. cheers EDIT , for your system specs. turn AA of , no matter if it looks a bit different and put native 3d resolution from your screen..with that hardware enabling AA makes no sense.. jw custom 56 Posted November 29, 2010 Right, that's all it does :o  Well thats all some people including me notice when it's so extremely overdone.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted November 29, 2010 I don't think blur is overdone, at least if you're able to run at 100% 3D resolution. It doesn't bother me at all. But a while back I did have problems starting with ACE because it removed the ca effect from scopes (to make them less perfect). Was an addon conflict, so not ACEs fault, but still, there is a lot more to post processing than blur. To me it's an added difficulty and immersion level - in my world not everything revolves around how good shooters the AI is :)
mic1402 10 Posted November 29, 2010 the problem is because of the ridiculous blur I can't use it. the blurs so overdone that it hurts my eyes.
