instead of all this talk of sticking an m16 or a sniper rifle on a blackhawk, why doesn't some one stick a huge minigun (yes im going to say it, 'like in the blackhawk down movie'. It would b far more useful and it would be awesome to use coz frankly i can bearly hit anything wiv that 50cal thing thats on it at the moment, its rate of fire is simply not fast enough

We use heavy snipers (.50BMG) to cover boarding parties.

The sniper is covering from one ship the team which is on the other one up to distances to 1km.

A helicopter would hover smoother than a ship in the sea I think...

You guys are insane. It would be most difficult to snipe out of a moving helpicopter in OFP, and it would be next to immposible in real life. Weapons that lay down high volumes of fire work best.

I think you got the wrong idea...the snipers don't function instead of a gunner manning a machine gun on a pintle mount, but rather suppliment them in reality.

...it really is done...you'll have to trust me on this one. Have you ever seen or Black Hawk Down? Well true story believe it or not and there is a good example there of it being done.

It's a little pointless if you ask me....I mean this game is meant to deal with infantry, and least of all every single spec ops unit and loadout there is....I mean where is the challenge in hovering in a helicopter sniping people....? Remember that this is a GAME and the challenge is what makes it fun

True it's done in real life, but in OFP, not gonna work. You'd need a good pilot to keep the bird steady and an excellent marksman to be able to hit anything; and in my experience in OFP, a bird hovering low in a hot-zone = 80% chance of going down if the enemy have any RPGs or Strellas.

I'd rather see a mini-gun mounted on the ramp of a CH-47, now that would be effective.

Oh god yes. That would be a hell of alot better than the 50cal on the right side. If there was something that would change it should be Either a 50 cal mg on both sides of the chinook or a minigun in the back.

If they did put a 50 cal mg on both sides there should be a action in the action menu that makes it so you can switch to the right side or left side mg.

Either way it would make transport a little easier with a chinook.

I haven't seen the movie. I've read the book several times and seen the documentary on the real people. I don't recall anyone sniping out of a helicopter.

Sniping out of Helicopter = Added Holloywood B.S. for entertainment value. Have you ever shot long range? Just a twitch or a breath can throw your aim off a entire foot @ 500 meters.

Or if any Russian on the ground has an AK and is smart/good enough to start sniping away at the pilot or gunner. I remember in an MP game I was running around with a Bizon and a Blackhawck with machine gun spotted me, the pilot hovered while the gunner sprayed the ground around me with his M2, so I just went prone, fired back at the gunner and had the pleasure of watching him fall out of the chopper.

This idea just might work. Try puting the helo on autolevel or whatever and hover above the ground just so the sniper had better veiw. u think it would work?

there is a vast difference between a sniper and a sharp shooter.

ira with a sniper rifle = sharp shooter.

extremely higly trained soldier with the ability to modify his ghillie suit depending on the terrain he is moving through + the ability to find othr snipers even if it means watching cows or sheep to see where they are running from or looking towards.

a sniper would not operate from a vehicle, that would be a sharp shooter

He does one of you guys happen to know if there is a script avalible for positioning a soldier into the door opening of a blackhawk? Im sure it is not that difficult to make (when you are an experienced scriper offcourse )

Theres some confusion going on here. The two snipers we're refering to here are Shughart and Gordon abord Goffenas Super Six Two. The book doesn't mention them sniping out from the 'Hawk, nor does any documentary I've ever seen; and the film doesn't show it (I think). Of course that doesn't meen they didn't take potshots but I don't think they could have layed down effective fire anyway as the Black Hawk Pilots had to keep varying altitude and speed to avoid RPG fire.

I agree with 11B on this one, if the movie did show it, it was most probibly for entertainment rather than factual value.

In the book they mention that after they droped the rangers the black hawks with mini guns and delta snipers in the back hovered around providing cover. i assume those delta boys were actually shooting not just sitting there...Thats what shugart and gordon were doing before they volonteered to go in.

Mabey "sniper" is not the right word. I imagine "shooters" would sum it up better.

anyone look at the osprey for VBS1 it has a unit on the ramp in the back as it is flying I would think we could do the same here

You do know that VBS1 is far more advanced than standard OFP technology, right?

VBS1 is a tactical training simulator, which will be used by the US Marine Corps. It is loosely based on OFP tech.

It will NOT be available for the public, and I assure you that it will have 1.000.000.000 new and improved things that the general public will never see. Unless BIS decide to make OFP2.
