Project Phoenix - The resurrection of a legend (-ary fighter aircraft)!

Recommended Posts

[...]

Got a little further, canopy/ front fuselage section seems to be done now. But I'm not sure, maybe I will do it again, still undecided. [...]

Well, like I said I wasn't really satisfied with the mesh so I did it again and again and again and... And finally I got the canopy frame and the front fuselage section to fit together. There are still some holes but filling them is easy sh** against the trouble I had with the canopy stuff. To be honest, this was probably the most challenging so far, it really cost me weeks. But who cares, the result is what counts.

Right now I am too tired to keep up working but I will leave you a render. Well, good night then. Or good morning, you choose. ;)

And on it goes... I moved frome the holes in the front section to the rear, working at the exhaust nozzles, the rudders and the two rear sensors. I also reworked the "strakes" which, if completed (only half way done), give me the option for a C model (D model too, but that is rather useless). But chances for that are low as ArmA does not really need a air superiority fighter (or trainer).

Sensors, exhaust nozzles (mostly the struts) and rudders

Don't mind the holes, the will be filled soon. Bad picture anyway. ;)

Made the gun housing. It's not yet merged to the model itself, but it looks good to me so far, what'd you say?

Edit: Changed render to one with correctet smoothing groups.

The model still has lot to work. As i see yet it has some smoothing and modelling problems around the hull. You should dive on some details. Mainly it looks done, now you should touch the more sensitive and thin things around 3d model. Devil in details :)

Oh, don't mind the holes in the front section, they are known construction sites. Still I keep pushing them down the road. I am right now in a phase of mesh-optimizing, splitting into clean sections which hopefully makes unwrapping easier. The smoothing problem is not really a problem. I sometimes turn off smoothing to get a better view at the mesh flow. You can see the smoothing on post #25 and #26.

And as of the details: the worst is the cockpit. :D

You're right about cockpit. Hard part of the plane for sure. For example that F-16CJ cockpit takes my 2 months. Still without textures. ;

But you dont need to go deep like that. Only main parts of cockpit will be enough for arma 2 limitations. Most hard part is texturing it. So good luck to you! :)

Been playing around with some lighting and reflections and glare and so on. Fancy, isn't it? Thanks to NodUnit for his help with 3ds max. Actually no progress to show since the last update. I'm still working on the underside of the fuselage and the CFTs.

Why dig up such an old thread asking for an update?
