Graphical problem with ati radeon 64 ddr

Recommended Posts

im not sure if its graphic card related or not but when im moving forward, whether on foot or in a vehicle, i find the whole picture freezes maybe every 3 or 4 seconds but this freeze is a split second then away again almost like every 5th frame stops or summit ive tried different resolutions and disabling this and that but to no avail.

just wondering if anyone has heard of this problem and how to sort it

winxp

1 gig ddr

1.2 athlon

etc so i dont think its a problem at pc end.

hhmm...that's odd...i seem to experience that sorta thing while i play GR Demo. not everytime, but randomly.

your spec seems to be really ready to handle it...but could it be that using HW acceleration get in the way? if your graphics could be better off not using HW acceleration, than how abou that?

just ranting... wink.gif

uh, you mean playing OF in "software" mode? 3D cards only function in HW mode wink.gif

Anyway, do you FSAA on? Have you got any "RAM defrag" utility running? etc etc... Did you use to have it before?

I have the same problem with my Radeon 8500 retail card. Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but it's very annoying. In the menu the mouse stops every 5-10 seconds, for a splitsecond, then it's back to normal for a short while.

The same thing happens in-game, but here the whole scene stops. I guess it's the same thing, but now I can see it cause I'm moving around...

I have a new computer, so no prob here wink.gif

Anyone got an idea???

I had the same phenomenon quite often with my old Voodoo3000 but now that I have the GeForce2 MX400 I haven't seen it anymore.

It is best described as a 'jerking' movement like there is a small delay in every 50th frame or so. (smooth movement for 2-3 seconds and then a sudden 'jerk'wink.gif It wasn't that annoying, though, but buying a GF2 solved the problem for me.

I think I have the same problem with my Radeon 32mb - it just kind of 'pauses' every few seconds, then is back to normal. That, and certain places (not necesarrily with more graphics, sometimes there's not much there at all), whenever I look at them, the graphics slow to an unbearable crawl. I'm usually fine in 1024x768x32, but these places make me go down to 800x600x16 before they are playable again. It drives me crazy sometimes, because I know I should be getting better performance.

Installed Omega's 6071 driver for my R8500, and now everything's running smoothly biggrin.gif

Don't know what setting in the driver is fixing this, but I'm happy to see the probs fixed...

Now I can run with smoothvision on too, with no problems, before the mouse lag made it unplayable

yes thats about the best description ive heard for it, i dont appear to have anything wrong with my mouse, it seems fine. also it does dissapear if i 2x or above for a few seconds then back to normal speed but its very annoying nevertheless

I had the same problem...as weird as it may sound...the fix for me was to unplug my external zip drive and printer...I know that doesnt seem like it should do anything, but it fixed the problem for me. You can actually notice the pause in windows itself, but since you arent constantly updating graphics, etc in the windows environment its harder to tell and everything seems to run fine until you get into a game. Try this experiment...open notepad and hold down any keyboard key...you will probably see the pause as the key types repeatedly. I would have never found the problem, except that the cord for my ZIP and Printer are too short to allow me to pull my rig out from under my desk...so I unplugged them so I could take a peek inside my case...to my surprise everything ran great after that...hope this helps...good luck!
