-martin- 10 Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) Hi Everyone, I've started work on a modelling tutorial series, it will include modelling from a basic box to a full house. Here is part one: Modelling a wooden box Description: This tutorial covers the making of a simple wooden box from a blank canvas. DON'T be fooled by the number of pages, that's just because of big writing and lots of images, this is one of the most in depth tutorials out there and also the easiest to follow! All textures and materials supplied with the tutorial including finished addon! Link (~1.8MB -English): http://www.fileden.com/files/2010/8/6/2934794/Tutorials/Part 1 - Boxes.pdf Feel free to mirror this on your sites. Next tutorial in the series will be Part Two: Geometry and Roadways Please leave your comments/suggestions  Edited August 8, 2010 by -Martin- Updated download link
JDog 11 Posted August 8, 2010 Very nice work. The text is a bit large lol. Only thing might be worth mentioning in it (forgive me if I just missed this) I'm pretty sure the P: drive doesn't show up until you restart, might be wrong, but if so might be worth mentioning so people don't think they installed wrong. Otherwise bravo, very easy to understand, I know some other tutorials out there either skip a few things or are otherwise a little more difficult (never knew what Nohq meant), looking forward to seeing your next ones. Thanks for the tip dude  The P:\ drive does show up even without restarting but I added that in to the tutorial just in case. (download link has been updated). I think I will make the text smaller in the next tutorial
[frl]myke 14 Posted August 8, 2010 Looks excellent but let me add some things that might cause confusions for beginners. Page 16: In O2 textures are only visible if: - DX draw mode is on (click respective button in the toolbar). - texture is either in .tga format or uncompressed .paa. Texview2 creates compressed .paa which wont show up in O2. Let me also point to GIMP as graphic manipulating software for which a normal map plugin is freely available. Please also think about to include specular maps as IMHO this is a important part like normal maps. Keep up the good work, there are never enough tutorials. Excellent presentation. :EDITH: Please also include that textures should be sized with the power of 2: 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 Although most graphic cards can handle other dimensions, it can cause problems with some slightly older hardware. mondkalb 1087 Posted August 8, 2010 Don't go for the "Texture something by hitting A"-Method. The sooner people get to use UV-Mapping, the better. Here's how to do that. Also, stick to the Texture naming rules. They also apply for *._CO textures.
Rhamka 10 Posted November 20, 2010 Probably my English is not good enough, but I do not think I forgot a step, when running the buldozer a it says "Cannot load texture box/tex/box1_nohq.paa", I can see the box with the texture, but I do not know why it says that. Good tuto for a newbee like me, I had problems understanding how to apply a texture with tutos more advanced. I looked for more info about the nohq image in this tutorial but it doesn't say how to apply it to the model or in the rvmat (if it has to), it says you create the nohq and that's all, I see the rvmat file has a linkt to the nohq, so is that all? Anyway, thanks for the tutorial.
