Thanks for repeatedly taking the time to respond to us Johny! I have to say you've convinced me about this. I guess if something like this is going to have to happen, it's better that BI take a more active role in this than pretending it isn't happening. :)

Run Zeus on Dedicated Server with INIT window.
Aeriyn replied to Elena's topic in ARMA 3 - ZEUS EDITING
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=386913059 Here you go. Make sure execute is set to enabled and sync the module to the gamemaster. You can drop a module for players and a whole bunch of other stuff too, it will more or less let you control what each gamemaster is allowed to do. Apologies for using the wrong names, I was quoting from memory. -
Sorry if my wording is bad, but I'm basically just trying to point out that the game shouldn't lend itself towards microtransactions and item selling. If you want to play those game modes, go ahead, but please don't push the game strongly in one direction while ignoring the other. I appreciate the money, publicity and players that DayZ and Altis Life have brought in, but I'm questioning if this new set of rules will make it harder for players who came in to play those game modes to also try playing with communities. I originally bought arma with the intent of playing some DayZ, instead I got picked up by an arma community and was able to experience new mods, this forum and playing in an organised group. I'll retract my earlier tl;dr statement and say that what I want is for BI to not encourage people to run Arma servers just to earn money, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I said that I didn't believe game modes like the ones mentioned above are frequently and easily abused to exploit players. Legitimizing monetization shouldn't be something taken lightly. Let me ask you this, RedPhoenix. You work on some well-known mods. Would you let them all be monetized with no proceeds towards the authors? If yes, why would you do it? I'd love to hear what an actual modder like you thinks about this.

I'm still somewhat doubtful this will work, but I will admit you've won me over somewhat in that you are at least trying to solve an issue. However, I think part of the reason your community doesn't seem on board with this is really with the encouragement of microtransactions and the plague of servers which exist to make a profit rather than foster communities, and the fact that most of us are doubtful about the system. This whole thing is a minefield better avoided by just stopping monetization and allowing donations instead. Yes, people do appreciate donors and want to reward them. What about a donator wall on the briefing screen, or a sign with their names in-base? It just sounds like guys who want to encourage people spending have been petitioning you for this. More importantly, is a mod whose author is silent on the issue of monetization up for grabs or does permission need to be expressly given for it to happen? (basically, what is the base value for permissions) How far can the modder control the level of monetization? Can they for example specify that the work is available to be used on for servers with paywalls, but not as rewards for donators? What about mods that have been stolen from their authors, had minor changes (if at all) made to them and then released under a separate name? Based on your example, all I would technically need to do is to simply rip the assets out of a few mods whose owners are no longer active in arma, change the names or authors or configs, repackage it as "Badguy's Altis Life Pack" and charge players who wish to use the items. No one could prove I didn't come up with those assets, players on the server could care less, I make money, legit servers lose. What about weapons? Since weapons do affect gameplay, they should not be allowed to be monetized. However, do the new rules allow for weapon mods to be run in a server that offers hats for donators? tl;dr - This should be a milsim, not DayZ or Altis Life. Dedicated people and communities have made this what it is today alongside your original game, don't let it devolve into CS:GO.

What mods do I HAVE to install on the server
Aeriyn replied to rekkless's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
Make sure -nologs is not in your command line, then look for a arma3server_dateandtime.rpt file in the arma 3 directory of your server. -
MLRS for the range. You're almost always way outside the range of any counter-battery fire and pretty much the whole of Altis is within your sphere of influence.

As mentioned, you need to drop the unit module and set the init field to yes, then sync that to the gamemaster. -
What mods do I HAVE to install on the server
Aeriyn replied to rekkless's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
That's odd. I don't have enough info but you'll have to do a little troubleshooting. Let's use AGM as a base to work from, since it's one of the more important mods. First off, shorten your command line to just @CBA_A3 and @AGM. Reupload AGM to make sure there aren't any issues with the files. If you can, disable keys in your cfg file so we can eliminate that as a problem. It might be easier to solve this if you can get a hold of your server's RPT. You'll be able to find it in the same folder as all the @mod folders. Oh, and just leave all the HLC weapons in the same pack. There's really not much reason not to. EDIT From your video, it looks like your server is just crashing at startup. If you can post the RPT somewhere for us to look at it would be a lot easier to pinpoint the problem. -

Are you running your a mission made by yourself? If yes, sync the unit module from the zeus category to the gamemaster with #adminlogged and set the init field to yes. -

What mods do I HAVE to install on the server
Aeriyn replied to rekkless's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
Try moving @CBA_A3 to the start of the modline. I believe the .synqinfo files aren't critical to the server, since you aren't running PWS on it. Follow Terox's instructions and add the mods back in one by one to the command line. You should pay attention to the mod dependencies when you do this, obviously. Anyway, when in doubt, just look at the server's RPT. -
Is arma 3 vanila ai have suppression effect in multiplay (host with dedicated)
Aeriyn replied to kgino1045's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Short answer: Nope. Short solution: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=19467 [EDIT] If you come into issues with the AI not being suppress-able even with this, make your own zeus mission and use the script version. -
If that's the case, how can we expect that the interests of modders, who I suspect will almost unanimously refuse to allow monetization of their work, will be enforced under your guidelines? If the makers of KOTH, Life and Wasteland, or AGM and AIATP said they wouldn't allow monetization, could you police the servers infringing on their behalf, especially since there will always be servers popping up who won't be bothered to sign up under your approval? If the answer is anything other than a confident yes, this whole exercise is nothing more than a clarification of company policy regarding monetization and will lead to nothing but more resentment. I appreciate the fact that you guys work your butts off to support the game and that you even bothered to address the issue, but I hope you might in future pay a bit more attention to the other people who have a stake in the continued survival of your community. In addition, the trial period for this is way too long. If you decide to press on with this, I hope that there'll still be a community left to salvage after this year has passed.

What mods do I HAVE to install on the server
Aeriyn replied to rekkless's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
The group I run with use a program called Bittorrent Sync to handle our mods. One person has the master copy of all the files and everyone else mirrors him. Like with everything else, there are issues that need to be figured out, but I find it really convenient for uploading large numbers of files to 20+ people without having to do anything but change the contents of a folder. AIATP Lite is basically the same thing but with lower quality textures. You shouldn't really run into issues with it. As for uploading, if your server provider has an FTP address, don't bother with uploading 1gb zip files via their web interface. Download an FTP client like Filezilla, search for a tutorial and upload everything in one shot (and probably 2x the speed). A lot of very nice people have compiled pretty much everything you could ever need to know about running servers into the biki. Just start from here and poke around if you haven't already. Link EDIT: Oh, and I think you can find the missions you get off the Workshop by looking in My Documents > Arma 3 > Multiplayer. (I'm quoting this from memory so you might have to do a bit of searching to find exactly what I mean.) -
What mods do I HAVE to install on the server
Aeriyn replied to rekkless's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
To (over)simplify it a bit, - If the mod is something your squad NEEDS to download in order not to throw errors like missing classnames or invisible objects when joining the server, then most likely the server needs it too. - If the mod is something you could have run on your own without affecting others, like interface or effects mods, then like Terox said just upload the bikeys into the server. This assumes, of course, that you are going to force keys on your server. If you're running with a really small group on a closed server, you could get away without fussing over all the keys. If the server is public, don't even think about it. Make sure you upload AIATP Lite instead of the full thing, though, since you've got an upload size cap. By the way, check with the server provider if they have an FTP address that you can use to upload things. Most providers (to my knowledge) would have one to facilitate transferring files. -
+1 to Terox. Thanks for voicing out in detail for the rest of us.

Is there a way to log the Battleye RCON?
Aeriyn replied to SINE's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I'm not too familiar with RCON in that regard as I don't really have to keep track of people in that way, but perhaps you could try looking at your server's RPT and seeing if it gets logged there? -
The Username Change/Merge Thread

Please change my username to 'Aeriyn'. Thank you! -
Hi guys! The recent update killed my FPS and has been spamming the server's RPT with physx errors, but while playing the other night, a friend requested to watch my game through the new steam streaming function. What followed was a nearly 10+ FPS boost for me once the stream started. I've been playing with my laptop streaming the game ever since and it seems quite reliable. If you do decide to test this out, please do let me know if you do get the same effect. I'm pretty sure something's causing my FPS to drop and streaming turns it off - but I'm not sure what it might be. Hope at least some of you get some improved performance from this! Some details: Old i5 760 @2.8 8gb RAM Playing with steam overlay on with steam chat running as well. (Can't be helped) Dedicated server running Zeus with about 18 people connected, about 30 - 40 AI running around and dozens of objects.
-
I'll try to get a video up to show what I'm experiencing. So far me and that same friend have experienced the same phenomenon on his computer while streaming dying light. ---EDIT--- It's a bit raw because I was in a rush but you should be able to see what I mean.

This. This is the exact kind of thinking we need to solve this problem. Watching people walk all over modmakers who basically perform their roles for next to nothing can be really depressing.
