well you can buy now for less money and accept whatever they give you at launch, or wait for launch to see what the final release is going to be like and decide only then (features, performance).

does it have something to do with how water goes the wrong way on the can over there? coriolis effect is very interesting, didnt know its name or details about it (been researching it), thanks for sharing.

Any chance for default melee weapons?

proper way from behind would be the way that the vet described on the video i posted, would then be in fact a 1 hit kill with a knife to the neck/throat and pretty much like a takedown in bf3. the issue and the one i accept, is that in arma you hardly ever get to close quarter combat, so people mostly don´t need it. but there is no other stealth/silent weapon in real life for close quarters, they only exist in movies with magic silencers. you can argue they aren´t needed and time could be spent on other features, thats fine, but you can´t argue they aren´t real. and cod or bf3 or whatever game as unreal as they are, if they insert something that is inherently real, doesnt make it automatically unreal. still is something real on an unreal game. and again, saying knives would be unrealistic when on a tomb raider like third person game is @#$#@$. second is retarded and the third one, well, i tend to hear steps on any game (but arma does have one of the worst 3d sound positioning ive ever heard, sometimes is really hard to tell accurately which direction sound is coming from, and ive always had a good offboard soundcard and heaphone). except cod, because i dont play its multiplayer, ive only ever played singleplayer and a long time ago at that. people do say is hard to hear footsteps on it. there are retarded people complaining about anything on any game, but none of what you said is valid. ill add you =) -
you can always ask a friend to copy the files and send you some dvds, and then just add them to your steam folder. i always backup my steamgames that way whenever i do a full format, i just copy the steamapps folder.

its not on your end. maybe, personally i dont feel very confident about it.

i can model a knife, no problem. in hopes it will see the light of day of course =) out of curiosity, i couldnt find a stock bayonet attachment for modern rifles, care to share one so i can take a look? only found knifes with rings that clip to the barrel. -
isnt steam a worldwide launch? are you going to die in 2014?

he has recommended specs, so it should.

a soldier had his guard down, a 16 year old kid (us drafts kids how old again? 18 right?) came from behind, killed him and left without noone noticing. stealth enough to me, no silenced weapon would be able to accomplish the same as effectively, thats my point. in my country you might be killed at anytime if using army or mp uniforms on "safe" streets, since they become targets for criminals, i kindsof feel that soldiers in a foreign country they just bombed the shit off cant really afford to have their guards down at any moment, specially when their main enemies dress as civilians. just children around so he mustve been in safe fairy land right? well wrong, i feel soldiers shouldnt let their guard down specially after events like this: http://www.militarytimes.com/article/20121203/NEWS/212030312/Some-Afghan-kids-aren-t-bystanders ingame there is no way to accomplish anything remotely similar to that. ingame you can dive in scuba gear and get 1m from someone in a boat, why the hell shouldnt you be able to use a silent knife takedown? there is no excuse. knives are a part of the military all over the world and close quarter combats exist, may be rare but they are there, otherwise noone would train with knives or train takedowns exaustively. like ive said, some generals should read you guys and based on your opinions extinct martial arts and knives from the military, because you know better. still need help with the knife? (and that particular model looks old) -

yet none of the 2 are unrealistic. what are all those US embargos against Iran and their nuclear program for again? exactly. as rare as it may be, it does happen: April 02, 2013, US soldier killed in knife attack by Afghan teen http://azstarnet.com/news/world/us-soldier-killed-in-knife-attack-by-afghan-teen/article_7bda5f30-1224-53b8-9477-6671ed1a66c1.html "Other guards nearby didn't immediately notice what had happened because there was no gunshot, and the assailant was able to flee to neighboring Pakistan, Khan said." -
if they held it 2 feet and it changes from 160db to 130db, the difference is the same 30db shown on specs from silencer manufacturers. but of course it wont be perceived as 130db after 400m, neither would a jackhammer or anything else since sound does decay, and the weapons signature is somewhat changed, but something would be heard depending if its open grounds, a city, inside a very dense forest or whatever. so they at least would look at your direction. and at night there would be a muzzle flash (althought very diminished, the more darker the night easier would be to see it), since they probably would have a vague clue of what direction the sound came from and where you were, then they would see the muzzle flash of you firing your second shot and pinpoint your exact location. and i agree, unless a lucky spotter didnt get your first muzzle flash by already looking around where you were, should be hard to know your exact position, even without a silencer. i also agree that the AI isnt very good at dealing with this. ive been in a situation in which the AI walked past me while i was reviving a guy, and been in ones where the AI was standing looking at something 90 degrees from me at about 100m while i was aiming at him, then in less than 1 second he turned and 1 shot killed me. frustrating as hell i know it. there was also a funny one a few days ago, there were a few inside the water, ans one kept runnign in circles inside the water with just his head sticking out, i spent more than 2min trying to hit him from 300m and he just kept running in circles.

ww2 vet on knives: http://www.military.com/video/specialties-and-personnel/veterans/ww2-vet-still-handy-with-the-knife/1363196314001/ knives military training: military from all over the world must be retarded to train with knives, they are useless, unrealistic and are only usefull on "twitch" arcade shooters, they should listen to ArmA players! -
no, not necessairly. alright then, we are getting somewhere, what papers are those? perhaps by reading them i shall be proven wrong and ill endup fully agreeing with you. but my problem you see, is that since hearsay from someone clearly biased confirming a positive behaviour as being an absolute "truth" of a game that falls mostly under the convenient pattern discussed here, simply isnt enough for me to consider something ive been used to be able to check by myself in dozens of games throughout the years by playing them and testing, to be wrong, maybe that technical paper will, therefore my interest on it. i respect peoples perceptions to what they are most confortable with to be different from one another, and like the fellow there that had 40fps but stuck to 30 and he felt a smoother gameplay for him, i have no reason to not believe him, more power to him. hell like ive said before, millions play console games at 30 fps and believe its great. but that doesnt mean that it is or that i will take that as a rule, sometimes the marjority is simply wrong, if not most times. what was disrespectfull? i stated the opposite and then proceeded to ask how we were going to settle it, well thats how a discussion works afaik. i wouldnt say i did it like a gentleman, also i´m not used to kiss up to anyone, but i was neutral and direct, i see no disrespect or flame. you being in disconfort from having someone question you is natural, that doesnt mean what made you uncomfortable was a flame. sometimes reality, a truthfull statement that you disagree with, or a simple inquiry does that too you know, make you uncomfortable. what i get from this is that i cant question your statement directly because you consider that to be a flame, either that or you are using anything you can think of as an attempt of a logical reason just to shut me up and feel righteous while at it. i would say then that: "you cant have your cake and eat it". neverthless then i ask, in what world do you live in? are you too used to fanboys only praising your work and being too carefull not to hurt your feelings or asking direct questions? then kissing up whenever they get a chance? there are plenty of those already wouldnt you say? and im being sincere here, is that the proper protocol? afaik you work for BIS, making a statement on the forum, i´m a consumer directly asking for you to go into detail or prove it, making clear that otherwise it means nothing just like the opposite statement i made. you are not just another user, you are implying that your game plays smoothly at 30fps. do you know what i get from that? ammunition to not properly fix the performance issues. yes thats is a huge leap on rationalization but is also a pattern that ive been getting from both the dev´s posts, the official announcements and the interviews mentioning performance, i know what has been posted on the forum, but im afraid it doesnt reflect what is being posted everywhere else. so my point is not to flame, my point comes from a worrysome user trying to get clear cut answers from devs. but no worries, i now consider myself warned that i will be banned if i keep pointing out wrongfull, contraditory or empty biased statements that the developers say, not a huge surprise here, thats what most big companies do. well some people like challenges i guess noone of you do, probably "too hard and not worth the effort". now where have i heard that before.

its a fact it is around 130db when silenced, its not perception, its not my opinion, its a fact. its a fact a jackhammer is also around 130db, not my perception, not my opinion. see a trend here? and you know what else falls between 100-140db? a jet engine. of course a jackhammer and a jet engine is perceived differently because their sound is continuous, but still at least serves as an example of how far you would hear it. yet, in the game they make only the air pressure sound when you are next to someone firing it, and after a few meters you dont hear anything. pratically a whisper, and exatcly like any holywood movie. those amateurish cameras used for youtube videos are not made to properly capture sound, the encoding also doesnt help, they are completely dismissable. but still, they are much much louder than the ingame sound: compare to the ingame sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cMIZLic6dQ might be a gameplay decision? sure, a lot of games do the same, and thats fine. but ffs dont call it realistic because it doesnt come close to it. -
well i find it not to be true and find that 60fps that falls to 30 now and then performs a lot better than 30 average, which is notgood to begin with. also, find your statement biased. what now. one thing i can agree on, when you are playing at 60fps and suddenly starts playing at 30 you clearly notice how bad 30fps is.

Nowdays you dont have to uninstall either prior to installing newers ones, unless an specific problem prevents you from doing it properly on the first run. Just check the installed driver version afterwards or if any issues came up during install. I just advise doing so when changing from nvidia to ati or the other way around, even though technically its also unecessary, it might prevent some possible issues and cleanup unnecessary lingering crap. On that case i would also recommend driver cleaner and ccleaner afterwards.

white replied to killzone_kid's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
the unrealistic thing is that it is more silent than a person clapping (which is 40-50db) and that after a few dozen meters you cant hear it, when a real silenced rifle has around 130db even with subsonic ammo, and thats as loud as a jackhammer. that means u can clearly hear it for hundreds of meters on open hills like those in arma. and its still loud as fuck from upclose, nowhere near stealth. the game´s silencer simply sounds exatcly like in holywood movies, completely fake. you can dislike melee weapons or takedowns although both exists in real life military, thats fine, but calling knives unrealistic while believing silencers in arma behave realistically is screwed up to say the least. and i wont even begin with third person, because to me thats the complete opossite of being realistic, thats like a tomb raider game ffs. -

yes because takedowns/stun and disarm dont exist in real life right? lol http://www.dvidshub.net/video/128142/military-police-baton-takedown-training-b-roll you prefer the completely unrealistic silencer for stealth kills that we have always had on the ArmA series, got it. -

i agree, and allowing melee fights would probably endup looking horrible in arma. but still think a knockback quick push with your main weapon to temporarly disarm/stun and then some sort of a disabling takedown that couldnt be blocked while stunned would be cool. lets say i know some guy is around the corner, i can rush into him and knock him back, then i can either shoot him while he is temporarly stunned, or go ahead and disable with a takedown. then drag the guy to my heli/car and take him to my hq and lock him up or something, how cool would that be. an easy alternative could be a somewhat slow foward hard thrust with a knife (with a knife button not having to wait 5 seconds to change from the main weapon) that could both stun and disable the enemy without killing so you could drag him or what not. (i think the dragging script ppl already use is acceptable altought not optimal). and if you missed it you would both alert the enemy and have a disavantage from the delay for both using the knife or using your weapon again. i know its not a necessity but would be pretty cool. -
semantics, that might be the definition you are used to, but to me, mid 30´s means an average with no lower or upper limitation, because its an average. kind like any game review ever in which they show both the average and the minimum that can be a lot different from it. ---------- Post added at 18:58 ---------- Previous post was at 18:58 ---------- heheh im cool, but thanks.

ii think that a lot of links when searching for information about arma 3 lead back to the alpha website/hub and the tracker is very clear there, its even above the forum. but i do tend to give people more credit than i should. and once aware of the tracker this vote in particular is one of the most voted, so you dont really even need to search for it. i kind of agree, but, since also a lot of people voted against female models, that kind of takes the weight of your argument. but who knows, maybe helping people to be more aware of this vote in particular will make it get downvoted as much as the female model one. i just think this one in particular is lacking, im not saying arma cant live without melee, since it did, but would be great if it had any. dont think theres any logical cons to it, soldiers all over are trained and carry knifes, they are trained in martial arts and close quarters combat, it is kind of standard. i think the south korean army still trains taekwondo even (yeap they apparently still do ). well no cons not considering the development effort that is.but ultimately i have to agree that the most probable behaviour would be to upvote a new feature. since silent weapons do not currently exist, both a silent way to kill and a melee attack to disable without killing, for lets say, making a stealth incursion into a compound and taking an enemy into custody for interrogation, would add a lot of possibilities for mission making. imho -
i started by replying to a post that stated that arma 3 design has some sort of magic that makes poor fps behave better than other games( its a fact, the posts are there, you just have to read the topic to verify it but still you argue that im the delusional one? thats funny not to say mediocre attempt at an ad hominem), while it does not. it behaves exactly like any other game that has the same poor fps, which is poorly. i kept being addressed and i replied accordinly exactly like now. If you have a problem with that its problably because you are not aware of how discussion foruns work, because this is one, and its not a circlejerk forum on which people continuously praise everything inside a fantasy land and turn against anyone that infers a reality check (oh wait, maybe it is). like ive said, if you don´t want me to reply either say something that makes sense, hell or not, as long as is on topic, neither what the first post that i replied or the others did, or simply, dont address me. The even funnier thing is, the on topic post i did, not replying to anyone, was completely ignored and i didnt post anything about it again, curious how that worked isnt it. But since you did address me, heres my reply:

almost everyone that state the same runs with intel over 4ghz so no surprise there. still since youtube locks the framerate to 30 i would like to see a onscreen fps counter so those videos could be used as at least some sort of parameter.

i´m amazed most people here are unaware of this vote: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=2714 and apparently most people do want some sort of melee. thus i see no reason not to have a couple of melee animations, but i would be happy enough with a knockback using current weapon though. -
