AI HELO Insertion & Extraction
schlonz75 replied to Ice_Rhino's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hi all, sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I think it fits in here as well. I've successfully done both insertion and extraction with the method from the mentioned armaholic thread. But there are two little issues left for me: 1. Both the insertion helo as well as the evac helo perform a 180 twist shortly before touching down. Is this related to the direction of the invisible helipad? 2. For the evac: when I am the team leader the helo will leave as soon as my 2 teammates are sitting in the helo. It will not wait for me to get in as well if I'm not quick enough. When I get in first and not ordering my mates to board, the helo won't leave until they are in, too. I hope I have made my problems clear so far ;) I will upload my mission as soon I am at home. And let me say a big thank you for all the helping hands here! -

Excuse me, but I'm really interested why you keep ranting that much when you obviously did not expect anything else than that disaster you were put through at least twice before in the past. In no post in the past few days you said that you hope for anything better, you just expect doomsday to come. I can understand people not being happy about the current developement of things and if you want to critisize them, but come on... "train wreck", really? I think, the reasons for the delay were made clear and I can understand many of them. I also think that it's not the best idea to release the campaign in episodes but anyway, I don't expect them to rip my pants off with paid DLC so soon ;) (and if so, then I still can play the main release which I paid 25 euros for. Any other current game costs more than twice and it doesn't have 1/3 of ArmA3 feature and entertainment potential.)

Same here, it just sounds wrong. Too many echo repetations imho.

Being more a SP mission player, I must admit that of course I am disappointed in a certain way, too. But even for me the world keeps turning and I'd rather have a proper working camp instead of one thats unpolished and buggy. Surely, a core feature missing at release day is not good, not for the players who already paid for it, neither will make this a good impression to new potential buyers. But what makes me concerned is this: Like some others i think BIS should extend the beta stage and finish the camp before release, because there might be buyers that are not well informed and may hold an unfinished product in their hands. I can wait maybe a few weeks more for the release (Though I know, some of us can't...) So I virtually sign the following exemplary post and keep my optimism ;) greetings, jens

Although I am still quite a beginner, it's not impossible for me to succeed this mission. Enemies are hard to spot but still they are possible to hit with the default brightness and slightly lower gamma settings. As some said before, they make themselves visible, so try to aim at the source of the muzzle flash just like they do too ;) They are not invisible for me. Definitely very much fun to play this mission. Sure, NVGs would be more realistic regarding real combat preparation but obviously that's not the intention of this showcase. It's nice to see those smokey muzzle flash and the lighthouse beam :)

AI flying patrol with Player onboard
schlonz75 posted a topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hi everyone, I’m just about to start learrning to build very simple missions with the editor in ARMA 3 Alpha, so I’m trying quite basic scenarios at first of course. Now I wanted to set the following starting situation just out of interest: The player should sit in the gunner/turret position in a helicopter that is already in the air, piloted by an AI pilot. The helicopter should fly certain waypoints, or at least one “loiter†waypoint. I succeeded to get myself into the copilots’ seat this moveInTurret [heli, [0]]; and the pilot at the controls this moveInDriver heli; But I can’t force the helicopter to fly certain waypoints as its an empty item (I assume thats the reason). I only can set waypoints for the pilot but he won’t fly them by himself. I always have to command him to fly to the next waypoint and even then the pilot doesn’t attack any enemy AI on the ground or in the air. If I create a BLUEFOR helicopter I dont know how to get into it from the beginning. I always end up standing on the ground watching the chopper fly above me... Is this too much ahead of me or can it be done quite easily even for me as a beginner? I already searched for answers so far but didn’t find the proper ones. If I just overlooked them, just give me a link, I’m willing to learn by myself ;) Thanks in advance. Jens -
Hi Sproyd, this is a nice guide. Being a non-native english speaking guy, I completely can follow your explanations though. It also is well structured. Keep up the good work, I'm getting more and more interested in basic mission building. Thanks so far for your effort. Jan

Share your first Arma3 Beta Impressions (all first impression type posts here pls)
schlonz75 replied to fabrizio_t's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Hi all, being a not so experienced ARMA-user so far, I nevertheless would like to share my first impressions as well. The good: When I first tested the alpha lite I still had my old GPU (3 years old, then mediocre) and even with that it's possible to run the game smoothly, of course on a lower but still pretty detail level. However, I decided to get a new graphics card and see how it would look like on that. Yesterday I finally got it, installed it and I was stunned. Yet not a top class GPU (7850 HD, 1GB) I was overwhelmed at first sight. I let the autodetect feature decide what setting would be nice and almost everywhere got offered the highest detail setting. After a bit tweaking here and there i have a found decent setting which gives me an average of about 25-30 frames even with a quite big crowd moving near the sea or in the forest. For me it really is a big leap in the graphics quality compared to ARMA 2 OA (I have to take a look at it with my new GPU though ;)) Animations mainly look nicer now, although there is still some improvement possible i think. But that's kind of refinement. The new weapons: well, they seem(!) plausible to me, they look precisely modeled and animated. I had the well-known look-and-feel from the previous ARMA title just with enhanced graphics and aminations. The bad: As many of you before already stated, the sound (still) seem to be a bit tame. I often feel like firing shots with earplugs in. One said something like this"... shots taken are nothing less than small explosions only inches away from your ear, let it sound like this!". Couldn't find better words ;) I am missing the possibility to climb or jump (no bunny-hops!) over obstacles. For example I cannot get on a large sand bag, to get in a higher position to either have an overview over some area or to have a good position for a well aimed shot. Also a change of weapons while on the move would be fine, too. The other flaws I could mention by now are due to the alpha state and I'm hopeful to see them getting fixed with the beta or latest with the full game. Have a nice day, Jens -

Hi Nettrucker, ok, thank you for your detailed explanations. I can quite well deal with that issue, I just wanted to know. I'm having fun with this campaign anyway. So I'll just feel like the one who has to do the tough job in our team when anyone else already relaxes. At least they help when I'm hit and/or the hidden one comes out of his hideout ;) A nice day for you too. -

Hi Nettrucker, I have an Nvidia GTS 250 with 1 MB. Not sure if I understood you correct due to translation problems: My processor is still not good enough for calculating the AI properly although its even better than your Dualcore, correct? Your scenes look great with voice acting, im already looking forward to playing it then. -

Hi Nettrucker, first of all thanks for that quick reply. Your explanation sounds somehow logical to me although I barely will ever understand the detailed technical background but thats not very urgent ;) I have an AMD x4 630 2.8 GHz with 4 GB of ram. Fortunately most of the time I have quite good fps. I don't know the exact rate but it looks nice to me. And please don't get me wrong, the missions are well playable so far (didnt finish the campaign yet). I learned the hard way to search all places to end the missions. I take it as some kind of CQB training  Cheers -

Hi all! At first, biggest respect for the great work you've put into this, nettrucker. I play your campaign with so much fun and also frustation due to its difficult level for an almost-newbie ;) It is amazingly designed and the story is very immersive. Additionally, I like to play an infantry grunt as I'm obviously too untalented to fly helicopters... I play HoT with the only addons CBA and JSRS and I have realized that in some missions where we have to clear some buildings. In almost every building there is one enemy left that my team does not find and does not search for at all. I have to clear most buildings completely on my own although there are guys standing nearby the door. Could this happen because of the addons I use? Thanks and greetings Jens I forgot to mention, I play the ArmA CO Version 1.62
