Spent my early years living in Kent, so it brings back some memories. Got the feel of the open areas, the row of buildings there in the last pic, don’t seem to fit in. I know its hard with UK buildings, not that many which suit. The update pics are great, thanks. A great looking terrain and work. I will be looking forward to this.:).

Arma 2 Addon request thread
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Re your part islands: there is a huge amount of full islands that should be playable on most lower-mid range systems, desert terrains, low veg etc, even Arma islands ported to A2, quite a few, many PMC & VTE islands, huge fps. Use the town construction if you want to use open desert with just a couple of settlements, can keep fps high and game-play smooth. Vegitation mods like mike barts lower spec veg helps by replacing veg on some islands, also summer veg, can help, to be honest there are a few. Plus you could use Arma veg (2D-ish) looks fine and keeps performance going especially if making your own oasis with settlements for skirmishes etc. Re your altering settings automatically on the way into your game: not sure anyone would make that when there are so many mods that do that for you already. I would try VFFPSS, auto alters in-game view distance, terrain settings etc. Plus IVD does a similar thing, although not to the same extent. DVD another possibility, all great mods by the way.. Re your rolling soldiers: SLX, SMK have ai movement changes, also I think PvP_tweaks could be worth looking at, you don’t need to use whole mod’s split them up a little and use what you need, provided they don’t have ‘dependencies’, if they do take across the dependency if it helps as well. The mods mentioned have slower swim, crawl, walk movements, dodge rolls etc. Have a look at Gunter’s COWARMOD or COSLX, read through, there is a comprehensive explanation of the mods and what they do, there are performance enhancing mods included (I’m sure). Don’t forget you don’t need the whole mods just the bits you need, there really are plenty available.. Oh, you can disable loading screens too..:) All that said, what specs do you have..:p -
Its sad it maybe the last update, but I can understand why, they are great as they are, will be updating nevertheless, and thanks for this great mod, maybe see them in some form or other in A3! Hope so.:).
-
@john1000 Its all really system specific, what works for some may not work for other’s. However, what’s your spec, apart from using Win7 ? :)
-
Umm, that’s interesting, perhaps its changed. Although I don’t use ASR AI, but I do use TPWC suppress. As said, last time I used DAC the ai spawned were, well ‘black & white’ in behavioural terms. They just didn’t take on any of the AI improvements I use, looked to be stock behaviour, which was a shame. Still I think I read in the readme at the time, that other ai mod’s may not work correctly. May look at it again, perhaps..

Which are these, and why are they more advanced ? Interested in examples, I've played many war games over the years, always interested in new ones to look at..:)

Well certainly its not a simulator, or BIS is wasting their time with VBS. It’s a game that needs a certain amount of reality/belief suspension. We know a tank doesn’t disintegrate like that when fully hit and destroyed, we understand that aircraft, on the whole, don’t usually leave much behind when they have gone down, other than bits, of course. It simulates some things better than others, but it’s a game, so why should it have to go too far into every detail. It has soo much going on, it would almost be impossible to do. Its great for what it is, the best of its type, an advanced military game world.
-
HAC is o.k. although I don’t use it much. DAC I used a long time back, but stopped using it as it spawns ai with standard BIS behaviour, i.e. not the behaviour of your modded ai, someone may be able to correct me if its changed, but as said, I haven’t used it for a good while.. Anyway, I just like taking a look at mod’s that I may not use in game, there are plenty of unusual ones out there, aircraft, vehicles, etc. Interesting just looking at what mod/addon makers have made. Plus of course collecting terrains/islands, that’s a pastime I have. When A3 comes out I will still be playing A2, it will take time for the game to settle in, A3 will be the pastime then, until it has settled in, plus A2 has legs for a few years more..:)

ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
chrisb replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
@Siddhi You have a couple of usb3 ports, so just thinking, maybe an external gpu to up the gaming potential. Not sure how much money that would run to, but may be something to think about.. -
ATTN NOOBIES! - New to ArmA II or OA - Here's the place for your questions

Freelook, I have this and walking assigned to the two buttons on the side of my mouse, easy and very quick to use, just click in and click out.;) -
There are many flaws in the game, but with a game soo large, its to be expected to a certain degree. As for AI, they are the best to be found in any game, even with their flaws. If you make missions, you can build in great ai behaviour, just a matter of personal preference as to how you would have them act. But there’s the great thing, you can choose the behaviour type, with the many ai mod’s or mixes of mod's out there. No other game gives you as many choices as this one, or its predecessors, well worth buying..:)

Great project, look forward to watching your progress..:)

Mice: Many players, as we all know, have problems setting the game up and getting good results. We have to remember that there are many other factors that effect the performance of your game, many mentioned in the OP of this thread plus many other threads. Mice, however, are not really talked about much, yet can be a source of problems to do with stutter, lag etc, which lead onto poor frame rates. Now I am using at present a Roccat Kone +, this is a really nice mouse. I have used many types over the years and all have some good points, even Logitech:p;). This is what I have found over the years playing this series, Arma 2 in particular, mouse set-up is important, not in-game so much ‘x/y’ but in your mouse’s software/driver pane. My setting for the Kone+, that differ to the default are as follows, ignoring ‘button assignments/macro’ set-up: Advanced sensitivity = +3 on both x/y Polling rate = 250Hz DPI settings = 800 / 1000 / 1200 / 1400 / 1600 (I play mainly using 1000dpi) TCU (tracking control) = ‘On’ (this can depend on your gaming surface, I use a Cyborg Glide7, scans pretty well, but any surface should, mat wise) Distance control = ‘normal’. Mouse acceleration = ‘Enabled’ Save whatever set-up config/profile you have. Other setting for the performance of the mouse are at default, as said, I have ignored button assignment/macro’s. I am not saying use these setting's, its down to personal taste, however its a guide, my gaming is very smooth with good fps for the type of gameplay I want (other than when recording video:(), so its just an idea. I find that I have to re-load my mouse config/profile or re-confirm it, reasonably regularly, I do the same for the Rat5 I also use every now and then for A2. I find it helpful having the mouse driver/settings open on the bottom line, I can Alt-Tab out of the game if I experience any stutter, tweak then re-load my mouse config/profile, even though the profile should already have been running, hey presto when I go back into the game the stutter goes, same for lag. Its not that it happens often, but its worth remembering Look closely at your mouse settings, if lag or stutter are persistent, tweak the settings, keep the pane open so you can tab out and tweak further if need be, may just make a difference to your gaming experience.. Would be interesting to know what other players use for their mouse setting’s, may make a difference and help other players..:)

ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
chrisb replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
@siddhi & @rokas I think you will both struggle to run the game with those systems, lowering settings is not going to make much difference anymore, the later patches seem to have messed that up. AA, PP, AF & Atoc all off, may help some, but I still think you will struggle, both cards are not going to help. Sorry, but BIS can’t do much about it..:( I would love you to prove me wrong, and hope you do..:) -
@warsteiner I know it’s a nuisance, but can you list down what you have tried, I can see you have tried listing your setting’s, although the link doesn’t work. Its tempting to say 'I’ve tried everything', but you will be surprised at the amount of players who just keep repeating the same tweaks and thinking ‘I’m getting nowhere’. List down yourself what you have tried, you may have to go back to some to mix them with other tweaks to get your game working. But if you have a list, then you know what you have tried already and where the tweak info is. One thing is for certain, your system should run this game..;)

Chris Kyle, US Navy Seal & Author of "American Sniper" killed
chrisb replied to kilrbe3's topic in OFFTOPIC
Yes, contentious issue this. Reported around 120 kills, very impressive, a hero or idol of some type!, maybe even a role model to some, who knows! But the people he killed of course could also have been hero’s, idols, role models etc themselves, to the people who supported them. Its really all down to where you come from and your views on conflict throughout the world in general.. Its sad when anyone dies, condolences must be sent to his family, also to the families of all the people he killed.. -
Have been for some time. The UK ‘MoD had a lite version made VBS2 Lite (JCove), UK only, they hoped it might tempt people into the forces, who knows… I like VBS2, but A2 is more the layman’s game..

Improved and simplified Mission Editor?
chrisb replied to WhiteArcticFox's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Regular saves as you build your missions will help that, however yes, a good suggestion a ‘restore point’. There is soo much they could do with the 'Editor', I just don’t want them to spoil what we have at the moment.. -
tips and tricks for making missions
chrisb replied to porte's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Wow, where to start.. Well you are in the best place in A2 and that’s the ‘Editor’, doesn’t get any better than that. Have a purpose to your missions i.e. game world, then things will get much more interesting. What type of thing do you want out of the game, is the only thing I can think to ask you, there’s so much you can do with the ‘Editor’, other players can only really answer if you can expand more on your OP.:) -
Now it looks like one of ‘YuraPetrov’ coast guard heli’s, possibly the ‘jayhawk’, its A2 for certain, but I will check for sure which it is and come back with it.. Regards trucks, support truck with hoist, not sure. I have that many mods, it would take forever to go through. However, they have a 10t truck in the 'GAF' mod, its open backed (empty), but you could attach stuff I suppose, its a nice large truck, I have it in my 'ai' vids below in sig, title 'ai driving' I think. There probably is one with a hoist, if I come across one in my mods I will let you know.. Edit: heli is a SU60J from the JSDF mod... A2. :) Sorry all, going off topic; to get back on topic, there is a desperate need for a sub in A2..

Its how your system is set up, I think.:) Will of course depend on your settings, in heavy areas such as ‘Podagorsk’ the following, with lots of tree’s etc, 2000vd. With aa and atoc enabled as here With aa and atoc disabled as here If you go onto some terrains it can be great as here, again 2000vd. Of course there are 100’s of building’s, mainly arma ones, but virtually no vegetation (city 34, 51km desert terrain). But on the whole its system specific, I don’t have an SSD nor will I bother to get one for my A2 pc, if your pc is optimized well, there should be no need really, certainly for your system there. These examples are, with a 4000vd third person, first person & zoomed.. Not sure where I took those, looks like an 'Ace' pack island.. In Cherno itself you should aim for; a single unit stood in the city ‘Editor’, with a mixture of highish settings, here & here, again 2000vd, reduce it to 1000vd which is more than enough for cities etc and you should get higher fps. These are only my examples and of course imo. Run your system lean and clean, my A2 system is a gaming pc with only A2 on it, probably makes a difference.. Look in Q&A under stickies: 'Can my system run this' and Troubleshooting' in stickies 'Tweak guide', there should be something there I would have thought.

ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
chrisb replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Griffz put a good little post here, third from the bottom post. If you have six cores your probably just over cored for A2, so “-cpucount=4†perhaps, and pos, as pointed out by griffz, “exthreads=3†maybe. Still, worth playing around with ‘ex threads’ as it’s all system specific A2, plus cores count, whichever performs better on your system.. Core performance and gpu here. Maybe be looking at trying to get somewhere around this, there will always be a core around 50% I have found most of the time my cores are: 1 @ 85-100%, 2 @ 70-90%, 1 @ 40-70%, can change, but thats an average for me.:)
