Radeon 7970 released - ARMA 2 Performance Gains
chrisb replied to Rouen58's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
@kklownboy: I see some of your points, not v-sync, I have to say;). But yes, my point is anyone can have a great arma experience, you just have to cater for the type of game you want to play. I play some huge campaigns, but they are split into playable missions, very easy to do in the editor. It allows me to enjoy the graphical side of arma whilst also keeping the ai intelligent at the same time. Makes the campaigns more interesting too, imo. Any gaming pc 3ghz or above (even some below 3ghz) will have a great gaming experience, just plan out how your going to play the game. Balance your system out, keep it lean and clean, its really the only way to enjoy any pc gaming.. Remember, huge systems, doesn't necessarily mean huge performance.. -

That 680 test is really bad, and 17fps:butbut:, what’s going on there! -
I don’t use crosshairs in-game, so I voted for number 4. But I don’t mind if players want to use them, its not a problem either way..

This top post towards the bottom. Might help you understand more..:)

Radeon 7970 released - ARMA 2 Performance Gains
chrisb replied to Rouen58's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Smaller skirmishes tend to be our game play type, a large campaign would be split into smaller missions anyway. Its all based on modern day warfare, so no large battles going on.. So no, not tried 300+ai, max 180ai on the terrain per mission usually, average ai in combat at any one time would be 30-40 or under, possibly a few more now and then, but rarely.. My pc2 has not been used yet really, its another gaming pc, just waiting for the big day (A3), may even have the card changed before it fires up properly ‘8***’ series ! Will wait and see, bought it too early really..:( A2 has not been put on it, won’t be either.. Lean and clean..;) -
I want to change my initial player name, what should I do?

POLL: Do you play ArmAII with ACE2 always on?
chrisb replied to kroky's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
There pretty straight forward the answers; 1=No, 2=Yes or 3=Yes. I voted already, don’t think anyone is really an Ace hater, its only a mod after all..:p I used Ace for a good while, but sometimes its nice to change to something else. I don’t run Ace now, but I have lots of other mod’s running to enhance the gaming experience. Just whatever you want to play at the time. I make my own missions, so I make them to suit whichever setup I want really..:) -

Well @FreakJoe, if this is your first try, which I presume it is, then you should be pleased with yourself. It obviously needs some work, but its good. I like the long hilly roads, naturally bumpy but not silly. I ran around on an ATV and had a good time. In Wales here we have quite a few roads not too dissimilar to yours there. If you were to expand on the island, I see there is lots of room to do so, I would think you may have to concentrate more on woody areas and how they look and perform fps wise etc. But overall I like the island and well done for a really good start and thanks for sharing it with us..:)

[WIP] Advanced Vehicle Interaction Module
chrisb replied to BlenderRUS's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Definitely VBS inspired, it would be a great improvement to A2, if only doors etc on most vehicles could open/close plus the use of other vehicle based items. Still a great project, I will be keeping an eye on this, good luck with it..:) -
I have a HD 5850 2gb oc’ed to 7850 stock clocks, when I set the vid mem to v-high it gives me 5-8 fps boost against default. I have run vid mem at v-high for a few years now and its been great. However, we went through a period of terrible texture popping etc in beta’s a little time back, so I moved over to using default vid mem, it costs fps but gave better stability graphics wise. My card on the in-game default setting, uses anything upto 1850 gpu mem usage, all depends on what’s going on onscreen. Juries still out, for me anyway, on default versus v-high setting, vid mem wise. I understand that default is the favoured one, but as said, I used it for a few years on v-high with no problems and a small fps boost upto recently, but I would say default for now. At least until the next official patch is released. Shadows I have set to high, looks much the same as v-high but there is less of a hit..

This (centre one) monitors most of the what you would want to see being used in-game. I have it for cpu monitoring, but I prefer MSI_afterburner for gpu monitoring, but MSI doesn’t monitor amd cpu usage, well my addition doesn’t, may have changed. Both of these applications will show you in-game monitoring, so you can keep an eye on what and where your worse areas are, plus will give you an idea of what costs what (fps wise) when changing settings etc in-game. I would always recommend having an fps counter available in-game anyway, even if not on show all the time, ‘dfs_fpscounter’ mod (armaholic), is a good one, only for fps mind. Once you have what you need information wise sorted out with the other applications, using dfs mod will be a good idea, just to keep checking every now and then, plus it has no hit to performance. Has to be said the other two applications and most applications of this nature, do have a performance hit, whilst using them, “but need’s mustâ€, as they say.

Need help on increasing in performance for Arma 2 OA
chrisb replied to Evilredkilla's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You don't, you just put a post in the sticky section/thread, its a long thread..:) The idea is, once you have posted in the correct section, you should hopefully get lots of advice regards settings/performance etc.. -

Need help on increasing in performance for Arma 2 OA
chrisb replied to Evilredkilla's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
This will be closed as there is a sticky for this type of question.. Still: Get ‘CCleaner’ its free and will sort out your registry, easy to use. If your not sure how to close running processes, use ‘Razer Game Booster’, it should do most of it for you, again easy to use. If your running Win7 open ‘Start’ type ‘performance’ into search then click ‘Performance information and Tools’ (out of curiosity make a note of your ’Windows Experience Score’, large figure on the right of screen also the five other scores), now near top left click ‘Adjust visual effects’, then change that to ‘Adjust for best performance’. The screen may change, but you can set this as a profile i.e. login profile for win7 and use that profile for playing your games. Then with that sorted its time to set-up your game settings, but I would try sort your pc out first, above. When the mod closes this thread (which they will), re-post in ‘Troubleshooting’ - ‘low performance issues’ sticky. List your system specs and if pos a screenshot of your in-game settings. -

Military SciFi Projects Thread
chrisb replied to Zedrein's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Have you looked at the 'Stargate' mod. There was or maybe still is a community for the mod, not sure. A set of nice island worlds (all in one map) and some decent other bits and pieces.. There's also 'Halo', various flying craft, batmobile, units, worlds, mech, well alsorts really. :) A SciFi mission set on 'Klurs' island would be good as well, haunting place.. -

The shooter, well if he was the man that did the deed, then more power to his elbow, or indeed finger. I would imagine we may see a few coming out as the shooter, over the years to come. Ex forces over here tend to get ignored after they leave. Both my parents served, not national service, but career service. RAF/WRAF as it was then, they got very little for the service they did. Most of my family (mostly male) going back are ex forces of some type or other, most all career type. They never really moaned back then, when they left service, sort of thought that was the way it went. My parents certainly wouldn’t have changed things, they both loved it. However I think the modern soldier should expect to be looked after, when they leave. All forces going back in time should have had the same, it would have been the right thing to do. However, governments never do right by the forces, never have.. Unless of course, you come from the right family line.. Then it turns into a gravy train.. As for the post above, we all know the line we are given by a government, where conflicts are concerned, or indeed lots of other things, its always a version that bends the truth or breaks it altogether. Where there’s conflict, hate or fear, you’ll always find, propaganda..

No, he’s overtaking an invisible car..:p The driving issue with UK, will just have to be left to the imagination, in-game.. There is a mod with UK road markings, but I don’t think driving on the right has been implemented, not likely to either, it’s a shame..:(

O.k. looks like it might be worth another look then, thanks to you and '@DMarkwick' for clearing my confusion. I will test it out and see how I get on.:)
