Modular Construction Mod by NerdMod
chrisb replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Looks interesting this, would be very good to have in A3. Is it like Planet Explorers or Starforge, building wise, i.e. similar technique, or completely different style of construction ?:)- 157 replies

Your right in a some of what you say. However, I’m just doing some basic tests as I go along, ones that I take for granted in A2 AI, but have been lacking a little here in A3 AI. Basic behaviour foundations that are desperately needed, just nice to see them appearing without the need for any addon, hope they manage to keep them in..;)

Three things: 1/ Reaction to the sound of gunfire, which in my last test they didn't do anything, here its good. 2/ Reaction to grenade explosion, unseen, again nothing the last time I tested, this time its good. 3/ Just a look at the general, first sight/engagement of teams. Here the teams use cover well and work a alternate route, good. (not sure regards the first guy in the team engagement, stood in the open, but ran it again after doing this and it was o.k.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVKR4FE5o1w All good, something is shifting somewhere, nice one devs.:D.

Quick look, I'm just looking at the fort camo (roofs) in the first pic and roads in the second. Don't think it would go with the very high quality that Minimalaco usually does.:) -
Arma 2 Story i've made and played. (Please read)
chrisb replied to SparkZ's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
If the game fires your imagination enough to write a short story to go with a mission, then your on the right track, playing the game totally immersed. Nice little story.:) -
should I buy a Video card or pay someone to help me out
chrisb replied to Cobrastrike's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
The card is a good card as said by the other's. Provided its put inside a strong enough good ‘clean’ pc, then it should eat A3 for breakfast. _______________________________________________ Problem is, many complain, few reasons being, they either expect too much, i.e. they expect 60fps all the time, they run with horrendously badly optimized pc’s, full of stuff updating while they try to play the game, or they use over zealous anti this and that, plus other programs, turn it off if your offline, you don’t need any of the ‘anti’ stuff or indeed many of the other programs in many instances if your SP offline. Online use a decent server, turn off anything that you don’t need for gaming or your security, whilst your gaming. Then turn it all back on after gaming or when your just browsing. Keep your pc clean, use ‘CCleaner’ or similar, de-frag often, keep an eye on temps for your hdd’s ‘CrystalDiskInfo’, ‘Speccy’ etc. Use ‘msi_afterburner’ whilst your playing if you want to monitor usage and temps, better if you have a separate small screen, I use the screen on my G19 for that, not my monitor onscreen display, because it can draw down performance a little. Its just good pc management from the owners side most of the time, it tends to sort most of the problems, in-fact if you do it from the first day of buying a new pc, game performance problems don't usually arise, unless the pc or gpu have a failure of some sort.. -
It’s the same with anything like that, it will drain a certain amount. Take on Mars has six pip’s top right of the screen showing various camera angles, which is great. Luckily TOM is not that heavy really as there is not a lot going on action wise. But every time I close one of those camera’s down, the fps creeps up slightly.. Concerning the mirror's, I know your question isn't, but for others that come along to this thread, wait for 'blakes_mirrors' hopefully it may come over from A2, far better than the pip for mirrors. I have it set to my mouse button wheel in A2, push it right for right mirror left for left..:)

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I am using a 42" 4.5ms tv as a monitor (details in sig), I dropped my 27" for the want of a larger screen;), so thats why I bought this. Had my reservations at first, saw lots of writing on forums online that tv’s were not as good as a dedicated monitor etc. Believe me there is little to no difference, if you play 1920 x 1080 on a monitor then change to the same 1920x1080p tv, it just looks bigger, quality is great and I sit pretty close to mine, around 6ft away, so it fills a lot of my view, which is really what I wanted. I was thinking about a three screen option before this, but didn’t fancy the screen breaks. Hope you find what you are looking for.:) -

Running great, now running very poorly? PLEASE HELP
chrisb replied to iidk4me's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Is the bad fps in both sp/mp, also are you online most of the time even when playing sp, i.e. always online ? What type of mouse you using ? Are you allowing anti-virus to run during sp/offline ? Have you tried other games, after you re-did part of the paste, or just A3 ? -

Schwemlitz, Germany: 5x5km Terrain

A really great winter version of a high quality terrain. I had the Thirsk snow going on force 4, early evening with the houselights on (tpw), plus with the streetlights, it really felt wintery and authentic. Really appreciated this terrain, love winter ones. Thanks for sharing it.:) -

Its sad really, that players can’t just play the game and immerse themselves in its world, instead micro analyse everything, not believing in its realism. In a nutshell, not playing the game at all. It’s a game, when modded its the nearest thing we have to a solid realistic war game on pc or anywhere, without being as dull as a simulator. I’ve been war gaming for the best part of four decades, and it don’t get much better than this game, trust me. It’s a form of entertainment, that I really enjoy and want others to really enjoy. It comes across from the YT feedback I get, via the emails, these players want to play in an immersive way, as they see it on screen, they want to believe it. To be honest they’re my type of people/players, I want the same and get that, its real when I play, fully immersive. For the ones that don’t want that, but instead want to analyse mod makers hard work, then I’m glad we don’t play the game together.. I couldn’t be doing with the tech chit/chat, i.e. the AI did this or that because the script said to do this..No... the unit is in a war zone, he did what he did for a tactical reason, if wrong or right, but that’s what he did, that’s how I see it.. I play the game..

The AI are fine, if your happy to patch things up. Which, if we’re honest, is always going to be the way, with the series. Those that moan that they are not realistic, robotic, idiots etc, should go online and watch some humans trying to play this game, possibly they are the humans of which I mention here. Soon it will become apparent that the AI are better at this than we give them credit. I can watch a 10-20min fire-fight between AI, solely AI, great fire-fight i.e. they keep at it, using good stances, movement, tactics etc, that's in Arma 2 though.. Humans don’t do this, our inability, in this game, to make good, fast decisions, tends to be the reason why many get killed. Then they say well the AI cheated, or they can see through everything. I play with pretty good AI, have done for a long time now, thanks greatly to GL3/4 & SLX and of course the AI mods prior to those, that led to those. Also others have come along and took parts from these and improved a little, like Zeus, TPWC etc. Its all good, breaking open a mod to see how it works is alright, improving or adding if possible even better. The player tweaking slightly to suit their own game-play is good, the idea is to do anything, if it gets you what your looking for game-play wise. Sitting and endlessly talking about how good the AI could be, when in-fact they’re pretty good now when modded, is fun, but not really going to turn much up. BIS have a new crew breaking open the old mod’s and having a look, who know perhaps that's what they're doing, if they get some of it in as stock, then great, if not, just mod it and play. The only problem however, is that the really talented makers of the main two AI mods have stopped playing or modding the game it seems. So it could be, pretty much curtains, for A3 for great AI. We just got to hope that someone comes along, that understands how they got it to work, so well, so long ago..;) Or of course you can play modded A2, which is head and shoulders above A3 at present. I'm hoping this won't always be the case. Edit:Also, are we asking the impossible, to get it better than the modded AI, can they put a patched up remedy into the game as stock. Where do we have AI like this anywhere else in gaming, one that we could use as a comparison. I don’t think there is one, certainly not as good as the modded version, patched up as it may be, it still works great. So what are the answers to AI, I think they’ve probably been said already, a while ago. There are mods available that you can download by the kind talented people that made them, that will and do change the game for the better, even if they’re not stock, does it really matter. The AI we have in this game, that has been added too and tweaked has no comparison anywhere in gaming, so why do we still feel cheated, when we can sit and watch human players playing it worse than ever, why would they bother to improve it above what it is already i.e. an AI that has no comparison in gaming, that is better at what it does than any other (more so when modded), that can think and perform in an open world environment and still win most of the time. Do we really need it to go further, or do we need to bring our game-play upto where the AI stands at the moment. Just a thought.
