Stop complaining about clunky controls & try this...
McSpeed replied to feralcircus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
THIS! there is no such thing as better or worse when it comes to keyboard /mouse vs controller. personally i find controllers are too slow when it comes to the hairy moments where you need to turn to direction of fire quickly, in certain games they do excel though (Assa creed for example) Its good to have alternatives and people mentioning those. But in the end its up to each and every player to decide what is most comfortable. -
How to set up a steering wheel and pedals?
McSpeed replied to Aradmel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
it wont see the brake as such. it uses the gas pedal (lift for brake/reverse press down to accelerate and balance the pedal in center for no movement.) i believe this is called "combined pedal"? what steering wheel are you trying to use? -
hardware details would be useful no matter what other game you can play on the machine

using any addons? sounds to me like HDR mod -
i LOVED "The Dark Descent" even though the ending felt somewhat "wrap-up-now" ish. Particularly how the did away with any kind of gore or violence altogether and still achieved serious immersion and hair raising moments :D hehe, just leave it up to the players imagination, nothing is more scary than what your own mind can do to you. looking forward to the next installment

Sound Issues (Crackling,distortion,static)
McSpeed replied to jinsi222's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hardware details might help..... -
so don't.... or read through the forums before you post and you would have noticed that there ARE in fact certain bugs / functional differences between the FREE version and the one people pay for. show me one free game that is bug free... for that matter show me one game that is bug free at all... free or not.

Minimizing despite flushing the cache
McSpeed replied to kirkherbstreit's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
dunno if its been fixed by now but if you use skype try to set the visual style to "classic windows". (tools > options > general) i only use this since the new skype style caused random minimising of all sorts of games for me. -
i had a logitech formula force and now a thrustmaster wheel... both worked just fine with arma and arma2. what wheel are you trying to use?

Arma 2 lag/hanging/freezing! PLEASE help!
McSpeed replied to xxDanxS's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
a graphic card may very well run and function without the power connected from the psu BUT you wont get anything even close to approaching full performance. it will only work with its most basic functions (displaying whats on the screen) without any acceleration at all (comparable to windows safe mode, in a way) no doubt it will add additional load to the psu though via the motherboard as any component inside your pc will. aside from that i have to agree with the rest of the guys: PSU way too small - you are running the risk of overloading/damaging the PSU which in turn may well affect other components. (you could use this calculator to determine the required PSU wattage) Heatsink Compound has to be reapplied - CPU overheats causing crashes and may cause irreparable damage to CPU. VGA card must be connected to sufficiently powerful psu in order to enable the required functions for gaming. -

Complete computer crashing while playing Arma CO
McSpeed replied to owl805's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
my guess is temperature. make sure the computer is free of dust , well ventilated and all intake slots can get air. laptops are able to play games but not designed for it... get a cooler pad or at least keep the base off the table surface (put some cd covers under the edges or something). -
Game doesn't recognize keyboard
McSpeed replied to Ashtar Sheran's topic in IRON FRONT: LIBERATION 1944 - TROUBLESHOOTING
sounds like a driver problem. make sure you have installed all your hardware (motherboard/ chipset / usb) drivers and that they are up to date. try running a DXdiag, maybe that will show you an error? -

Tophe's Arma Dedicated Server Tool (TADST)
McSpeed replied to tophe's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
easiest way to do it would be: just make a copy of your entire arma folder (put the launcher files in each folder as well) and treat them seperate. one for clan/private and one for public. this way you can set up configs for each and dont have to worry about changing them. if your hardware can handle it you can also run both server simultaneously each using its own folder, mods, config and server.exe -
having had a look at the vids i have to say. NO THANKS. i played SimCity4 on and of since it was released and when i play it i do it pretty extensively. what i love about it is the chance to build huge Metroplises... metropli?... whatever the plural may be and just zoom out and look at the entire map (multiple parts of the map creating one massive city) what i see in those vids reminds me of cities XL, which i did play for a while, this just doesnt grab me, sure it looks nice and the micro management is fine, but i for one dont get the feeling like i am managing a major city. i dont think we will ever see a game like sim city 4 again, sadly. just as well the modding community is still going strong :)

Cannot adjust "Video Options - Texture Detail & Video Memory", above Normal
McSpeed replied to Sledghem's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
afaik the game requires 256 mb vid ram, your system at this time gives the graphic chip 229 mb of the system ram to work with... that may be where your problem is. on a "normal" pc i'd suggest to go into the bios and adjust the ram available to video, i have no idea where crapples have that option. -
ah now i see .. you have 2 logos and they are mixed up? yes, as overlord said, giving the logos individual names helps but most importantly you have to make sure that each squad uses the correct path to the respective squad.xml :) so http://www.yourserveraddress/filepath/A_squads_folder/squad.xml and http://www.yourserveraddress/filepath/B_squads_folder/squad.xml

I never had any problems with J.S.R.S./ "lag"wise as you say, it would interest me what specs your setup has and/or what other addons you use. as to jsrs sounding "wierd" - you have to make sure you set your samples to 128 in the options / audio menu - also be sure to have the latest version including the patch /update for jsrs installed.

wait , what exactly is the problem? you have 2 different squad logos for 2 different squads, correct? each has a different folder with the logo.paa and the other files in it? i am not sure i understand the issue
