    Arma 2 on Windows 8

Thanks....I just installed Win 8 Pro tonight and this fixed it.
  3. Are there any problems with playing ARMA 2 via HDMI on my 52" Sony LCD TV that I should be aware of? I havent got it hooked up yet but wanted to see who else may also be playing on the big screen. My system specs are: i7-3770 CPU GTX 555 8GB Ram 256 SSD
  4. The AI on my team fly the heli like a drunk pilot. I was taking out tanks with an Apache hovering just above the mountain line and my AI polite crashes into to the top of me killing us both and destroying both units. WTF! lol
  5. I got the new system done a few days ago. I see a big difference between between the 1.5GB and 3GB video card at 2560x1600. The game is running much smoother with the settings bumped up a little higher than before. Played about 2 hours the other night and the system was running very cool and quiet. I would normally have tons of hot air pumping out the rear of the case. Room temp was about 70F. WEI came in at 7.8 only due to the CPU (not overclocked yet), everything else was a 7.9. Not bad for a $300 CPU!
  6. I read that too, the 3GB allowing me to up the setting a bit at that res. I'll post the improvements (if any) once I get it together.
  7. No, Arma is not the only reason plus I should of mentioned that I no longer have the old system. It will be nice to see if the newer architecture, chipset, native SATA 3, and a 3GB video card make any difference at that res. Both CPUs can OC to about the same so I'll see if 4 vs 6 core make any diff.
  8. I am in process of a new build. We'll see if there is any improvement. At 2560x1600 res. and I averaged 54FPS (AA off - VD 2600) OLD BUILD (no longer have it) Dell 30" U3011 Monitor Core i7-980X Gulftown 3.33GHz Six Core Corsair H50 CPU Cooler 12GB Corsair Dominator 1066 DDR3 (2GBx6) 240GB OCZ Vertex 2 SATA II SSD WD 600GB Storage HDD EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 580 1536MB Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 PS Corsair 600T Case NEW BUILD Dell 30" U3011 Monitor Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz Quad Core Corsair H50 CPU Cooler 16GB Corsair Vengence 1600 DDR3 (4GBx4) 256GB Crucial M4 SATA III SSD WD 1TB Storage HDD EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Classified 3072MB Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 PS Corsair 600T Case
  9. I used Google Chrome and it checks the spelling as I type. It puts a red line under words that are spelled wrong. Just right click on it and it will give me suggestions for the correct word.

Steam - opinions and experiences survey

I think Steam is for the non-savy, don't know much about computers, type of person. Might as well make ARMA for the MAC. :D For real though....lets start a list of pros and cons so everyone can see the big picture here. I know some say that they don't have any problems with mods, but majority say they do, so thats definitely a con. Feel free to copy and paste the list to your post..... PROS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. CONS 1. Game is tied to one Steam acct forever. 2. Can never sell or transfer the game to someone else. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

Why does BI even have to use Steam? Cut out the middleman and sell your games directly to the consumer via digital downloads. (like Sprocket) As far as owning the physical disk, manual, retail box, etc.... I can accept doing away with retail store bought version as long as you can always re-download the games at anytime. I still keep backups of my digital download games and serials on an external drive anyway. Most of the time , if you have to re-download the game, it will already be patched with the latest version. And the money BI can save not having to manufacture and distribute retail store version, can go back into game development. Just my 2 cents. :)

100% agree. Well said. This is one of my main issues with Steam.

No one company should have control over all the games that are online. That is where Steam is heading IMO. Please keep the choice for the gamer. I do not mind the digital downloads from sprocket or even if BIS sold the downloads directly.

Absolutely not. I want full control of what I spend my hard earned money on. Please do not go the Steam route. I will not buy games where I have to use Steam. I bought Black Ops on PC-DVD when it came out. It made me create a Steam acct to be able to play online. I didn't like the game. I was not able to sell or even give it away because it was linked forever to the Steam account. I canned the Steam account and will never buy another Steam linked game.
