  2. I think I'm doing something wrong. Perhaps someone can tell me what may be wrong. I have OA installed here: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\ I didn't have an OA server so I downloaded and installed ARMA2_OA_Build_72418 This created new files in: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta I copied the file arma2oaserver.exe from ~\Expansions\beta to: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\ After installing .Net and TA2DST v0.9 beta 2, I configured by giving the server a name, an admin password, and selecting a server file: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\arma2oaserver.exe I downloaded the Domination 2 maps from here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=10993 I selected one of the maps for my rotation and marked it Leaving all other settings default I launched the server. I get an error message which says: No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgInGameUI/MPTable.shadow'. If I click OK on the error dialog box, I see the server start up: Dedicated host created Host identity created However, if I connect with a client it tells me 'waiting on host' forever. I also notice many errors in the server .rpt file such as: Item str_disp_server_control listed twice Cannot register unknown string STR_DISP_LEFT Warning Message: No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgInGameUI/MPTable.shadow'. Warning Message: '/' is not a value Warning Message: No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgDifficulties/Recruit/Flags.CameraShake'. Warning Message: []: '/' not an array Cannot evaluate '' - no file Are the mission files I downloaded not appropriate for a OA dedicated server, or have I done something else wrong in configuring TA2DST ?

    Where to Multi-Play?

Joining a clan will definitely make the cooler parts of the game more accessible to you. ARMA2 is a fun game, but many of us believe its true potential is only seen when you start to play it as a member of a team. In choosing a clan to play with you just need to decide what your preferred play style is. Some like to play ARMA in a style similar to the way most people play Battlefield or Call of Duty games. The 'plain vanilla' version of ARMA2 running the Domination map is a typical way to do that. Tactical Realism is also a popular way to play. There are several larger clans that do this. In this style of play, there are usually mods being used, not least of which is the ACE mod. The goal is to make the game play more realistic by adding things like limits to the weight you can carry, stamina, more advanced weapon system controls, etc. This also has the effect of slowing the game play down. Players WANT to play in a realistic manner so there are far fewer instances of charging the enemy wildly, and many more instances of planning, moving with purpose, and using terrain, sunlight, elevation, etc to your advantage. In a word, TACTICS While there are many fine clans, I'll put in a plug for 7th Cavalry If you search for multi-player games put this in your filter: =7 That will turn up a number of 7Cav servers. You don't need to install any mods or do anything special to join the Tactical Realism public server. It is often well populated and there you can get a taste of team play. I encourage anyone who joins a game to set up Teamspeak and join a group running side missions. If you've never done this before, it will be like playing a whole new game you never realized was going on. Anyone is welcome on the public server, but there is much more waiting for 7th Cavalry members. If you decide to check out joining the 7th Cavalry you will be assigned to a drill instructor who will help prepare you for boot camp. After boot camp you will go through several sessions of advanced training (AIT). There are special servers for these purposes using special mods developed by 7th Cav for the exclusive use of the clan. A lot of the instructors and clan leadership are either active duty or ex military. Many have extensive combat experience. We train, have exercises, operations, contests, and more. In short, if you think you know what ARMA2 is all about, you'll be amazed to discover an incredible world of game play, teamwork, training, and fun inside the clan. Whatever you choose to do and wherever you choose to go, welcome to ARMA2 multi-player!

    ded server minimum specs

I would like to run a dedicated linux server with the highest population and best performance possible. This is a server hardware specs thread, so I will leave topics related to networking for another time. I have lots of speculation, but no evidence, so everything that follows is just a guess. I am looking for advice based on actual experience / test results / inside knowledge of the server code. The hardware considerations I think are important are: 1. CPU clock speed I believe this will be most important. I am considering dual core instead of quad core because I can OC to a higher clock rate on dual core. 2. CPU number of cores I believe number of cores is less important than clock speed. I have read test results which indicate that only one core gets fully utilized by the server and any others are only marginally utilized. I will go with dual or possibly 4 cores, but I have no evidence that more than 4 cores will be of value at all. 3. CPU Cache size I expect that the larger the cache the better in this case. This will be a big influence on the CPU(s) I select. 4. Amount of RAM I have read that a single game instance will never take more than 3GB RAM no matter how many players or how much AI. I would like a better way to predict amount of RAM needed for a given instance. 5. Speed of RAM My expectation is that blazing fast RAM is not actually useful. Having a large CPU cache is much more important. I am planning to buy reliable but possibly slower RAM based on this expectation. 6. Disk IO I expect disk IO to be modest at best. 7. Graphics I expect only needing console access for administration. 8. Hyper Threading I believe this is of no value and should be turned off. Can anyone comment on my speculation and replace it with evidence of fact? Thanks
