ARMA 2: OA beta build 73116

I seem to have a weird issue with multiplayer and weapon magazines. I'll try tomorrow to create some easy to reproduce test. Basically, my brother and me were playing Cipher. When the client player switches to another team member and then switches back to his original character, that character has unloaded ALL weapons, including pistol and SMAW. It does not seem to happen in single player, and AFAICT it doesn't happen on the server. Anybody else noticed this?
  2. You can add magazines and (to the bigger backpacks) guns by using unitBackpack to get the backpack and addMagazineCargo or addWeaponCargo, if that's what you mean.
  3. I usually use a normal "MOVE" waypoint for the helo that has a westHelo1 land "GET IN" in it, and sync the next waypoint of the helo to a trigger that has the right condition for takeoff, e.g. westMan1_1 in westHelo1 or anything more complicated if I want to load a group and such. You might want to give the trigger a bit of countdown time so the helo will wait a second or two before taking off. It's pretty easy to do and doesn't require too much magic. EDIT: Having an invisible H at the landing site is a good idea, otherwise the pilot might decide to land the bird somewere else.
  4. Yeah, I don't think you can put backpacks into ammo crates, if you try, they just drop.
  5. Hi. Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched the forum but didn't find anything. I am currently playing Harvest Red Co-Op. Throughout the campaign (we're at "Bitter Chill") the game seems to "forget" certain achievements that we had before, like I am wondering whether this can lead to anything but the worst ending at all. I should maybe mention that we're playing it via "Combined Operations", i.e. the Arrowhead binary. Any idea whether this should work? And if it doesn't, is there any way to fix this? Thanks! ~~ Alwarren

    RH wip thread

Does that actually make sense? I can see the need for a Docter sight on an ACOG, but a sniper rifle in close quarters? I guess you would rather carry a sidearm like an MP5 or a pistol rather than using 20+ inch or so of barrel in CQB.

    Cipher: Valleys of the Takiban

It's possible to "query" whether a certain weapon is available. One can e.g. test whether the SMAW is present and then add weapons from from ArmA 2 into the ammo crates.. Not into the briefing though, there are functions to add weapons into the briefing weapon pool, but AFAIK they only work in a campaign and only for the following mission.

RH Hk416 pack 1.2 for OA / CO

Hm, isn't that a PEQ-2 here? (ooh, and speaking of which... desert camo on the Hk's ? ;-) ) Anyway, thank you very much sir for the Hk 416/417... couldn't wait to see them in Arrowhead :bounce3:

Just want to make sure thx

From the size of the icons this looks like a low resolution. I would really go for at least a Radeon 4850 - I have that card and the game runs fine at highest setting without Anti-Aliasing in 1920x1080.

    New Patch...

I doubt the will transfer much of the data (i.e. units etc) via a patch, so if you haven't done so yet, go out and buy OA ;)

RH Mk18 pack 1.1 for OA / CO

Great pack, and it even got lasers! Thanks RH :)
  12. Just to be sure about this: I have Arma 2 and Arrowhead installed, so technically speaking I have CO. Can I install this patch, run the ArmA 2 only binary, and not mess up my OA/CO install? Thanks :)
  13. They are announcing Flight Simulator 11 and release Ace Combat.
  14. I wonder, is it possible to animate the aircraft lifts? Would be awesome if you could actually get the planes out of the hangar like that :)
  15. Nothing wrong with that, and I am quite sure they will not make the same mistake again. But they claimed Dragon Rising to be a milsim on consoles, which it never was. They claimed the PC version would have upgrades which it never had. It's not about what the game is; it's about what the game is not, in spite of CM having claimed it would be. Same issue. It's not about what the game is. It was fun, I did enjoy it, just like I enjoyed Modern Warfare which wasn't realistic at all. Point being, if you promote your game as the "most realistic experience of war ever to to be experienced" and then come up with a game were you can't even lean left or right, you are going to get people on your backside for that.If you advertise realism, then make sure you actually have it. Say again, I did enjoy the game but it was NOT what was advertised. Certainly not what was expected. You can argue the point, but using the name of a famous game or brand of game invokes certain expectations. Like, if you pick up a Grand Theft Auto game, you expect cars, violence, hookers, crime, and shotguns. If you suddenly find it's a Rally game, you will be disappointed even though it might be in the league of Richard Burns Rally.
  16. It's about expectations. If you buy a Splinter Cell game, you expect a sneaking third person shooter that emphasizes the stealth aspect. If you get a CoD clone, regardless of how good it might be, you will be disappointed. The same with Operation Flashpoint. You expect a game that strives on gritty realism. The pre-launch advertisement also enforced this notion. What you got was far from what you expected, so yes, people are disappointed.
  17. To me this sounds more like overcompensating. Concentrating on what people criticized about the first installment and mostly fixing these issues, like Join in Progress. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed Dragon Rising for what it is, something in the middle between ArmA 2 and CoD, but it had its share of issues that I don't see being addressed. It still sounds like a verbatim console port without any PC improvements with an overly complicated control mechanism because of exactly that heritage. I just hope that this time you can lean left or right.

    One issue with OA...

Judging from the driving in Dragon Rising, all driving code improvements where done by BIS and Codemasters fought to the blood to have them removed. Driving in Dragon Rising is horrible, both for yourself and AI drivers. I do not think the AI in DR has any sense of objects (or roads, for the matter), they will happily drive full speed into a tree.

Just want to say: Thank You BIS!

Thank you, BIS, for the continuous support of your games and your community, for OA which is easily the best game ever, and for not yielding to the creeping "consolification" of PC gaming as practiced by most other companies. You stayed true to your roots, and your playerbase, unlike some, er.... "other company" that claimed to be the successor to Operation Flashpoint. Thank you for the countless hours of fun I had and will have with your games.

    Latest Beta Patch: 72018

I keep seeing a low-LOD version of the Mk48 Mod 0, and it happens in both AO Beta and stock Arma II 1.07. Haven't played stock AO enough to ever notice it there. Is that a known issue?
  21. Maybe it's the item that is lying on the ground after you throw it, i.e. you throw one of the first two, and that gets deleted and replaced by the third. Just a wild guess though.
  22. In OFP, that was basically part of the story. You played a greenish private, and the overwhelming events in the beginning served to really suck you in. You DID NOT know what to do, and it was supposed to be that way - after all, you get shot at for the first time, and I figured it would feel exactly like that - disorientation, panic, what-to-do-now. The missions where, however, written for that specific feel. It just fit. It was just awesome. I actually played the demo first. That has you being loaded into a truck with other troops and attack a village. The same feeling - you are pretty much lost, overwhelmed by what is going on, but you eventually master it, just like the private in OFP. It ultimately connected you to the character. OFP was a masterpiece. I wish they would invent selective memory deletion so I could play it all over again :)

    Knife proposal

ARGH. Ever so often when playing Modern Warfare (the first one, not the overpriced piece of... but I digress) someone would come up with "let's play a knife only round". Which usually was the point where I logged out, stating that this is a first person shooter and not a first person stabber. I found the idea of twenty people, half of them walking underbrush, trying to stab each other painfully silly. None of these have anything to do with realism. Most games already allow you to carry too much stuff with you, I wonder how you stab with your hands full. But then, in MW you see people firing an M107 while in mid-air, or bunny hopping with two bazookas on their back.*sighs* ~~ Alwarren
