Tasks and taskhints in multiplayer
Varanon replied to SimonSays's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Ok, shamless, self-promoting plug following: FHQ TaskTracker. Works with Arma 2 and 3, and pretty easy to use.. I think... -

Varanon replied to CHB68's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
One of the dev build changelogs contained the mention of it. The Ifrit's class names changed Easy fix: Load mission.sqm into a text editor, and replace "Galkin" with "Ifirt" Edit: Ach, ninja'd -
Just curious: Is anyone interested in no-respawn MP?

Mk12 SPR & Mk12 SPR SD, plus 20rnd stanag question
Varanon replied to Vanz0r's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Correct me if I'm wrong, but why does a 20 Rnd magazine do more damage than a 30 Rnd magazine ? That would only make sense if the projectiles are different. It should not change anything whether there are 30 or 20 bullets of the same make in the magazine ? -

Varanon replied to Bahger's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I personally prefer no respawn over respawn or revive missions. The reason is simple: If you know that you can respawn, you behave differently. If you know that you can respawn with no penalty other than an embarrassing coprse lying somewhere in an open field because you Rambo'd, you will go Rambo whenever possible. A well designed mission without respawning will keep players tense and fearing for their "lives". It makes missions so much more exiting. In my missions, I usually add a difficulty setting that can be used to tune the mission down or up, depending on how many human players join. But in essence, it's my preferred mission style, without any question ---------- Post added at 07:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:48 PM ---------- An alternative to low respawn rate is also to allow dead players to respawn into friendly AI.. -
Consideirng that A3's content right now is a bit of infantry, one car on each side, one attack helo, one transport helo, a boat and a mortar, there's currently not much interesting missions you can make out of that. I will still be playing Arma 2 (and A3) and I'll probably also keep making missions for A2 for quite some while. Edit: Typo... it's a boat, not a boar.. heck, they didn't even include the common Chernarussian boar in A3 :D

Remember, Steam mostly shows the complete size, even if it only downloads a few hundred bytes

What is the large red circle on the map?
Varanon replied to Magirot's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Sigh... is this forum being overrun by people who can't read lately ? -
Can we please stop this ? This thread title is "Arma 3 plans for 2013". If you want to post one line expressions of bliss, open a thread and call it "The woot/yay/hooray/whatever thread"
-
The discussion about this sort of topic has surely been a bit more heated lately, but as someone pointed out in another thread, this is Arma and people have certain expectation when it comes to Arma. And quite frankly (and no offense towards your mod, I appreciate you doing stuff like that), but killstreak rewards, ranks and XP are for me at least the quintessence of everything I hate about modern shooters... the instant gratification stuff.. I'm quite sure that BIS knows. However, whenever people ask for feature that so blatantly defy *everything* that Arma stands for, then you should be prepared for a vocal resistance. And quite frankly, the OP's suggestion was (considering what I said above) really a bad joke. It so blantantly disregards every facet of what sets Arma apart from other shooters. I'm already unhappy about some streamlining done (which I also attribute to the current version being an Alpha for feedback gathering purposes), but I won't really stay silent when I see this sort or proposal.

What is the large red circle on the map?
Varanon replied to Magirot's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I once made a mission that has you crash land on some locations somewhere in Chernarus, and part of the mission was to find your way out of the country. It's somehow pointless if you can see where you are, even if it's just an approximation of your position. As has been said by most (including you :D) it should definitely be tired to at least having a GPS, but if you have a GPS and press CTRL-M, you see your exact position, which makes the red cicrle rather pointless to begin with (IMHO) Personally, I think the motivation for it is somewhat DayZ inspired (correct me if I'm wrong), because a lot of players start out not having the slightest idea where they are and the position message never stays long enough to be read. If you don't want to remvoe it, at least give the option to disable it in the difficulty settings, like most other aids (HUD and map info etc). Maybe also a description.ext entry to force it off if the mission requires it -
You can have all you want in a mod, or in a custom mission. But the OP asked for it to be included in the game. And he seems to be serious about it (I still think he's pulling our legs). Not take it serious when you hobby is ripped apart by bullsh*t like that ? I paid for Arma, please give me Call of Duty ? There are things that can't be brought together, no matter how much money you put into it.

Ok, you are pulling our legs... right ? Ha ha... haha.. that was funny.

No animation on changing firing modes. Bug or feature?
Varanon replied to the_player's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Well said! A fire mode switch animation would be nice to have, but not a deal breaker if it's not there. What I find more interesting is the fact that the fire mode lever can now be animated on a weapon, so if you prefer playing without any hud, the fire mode lever on the weapon now provides the missing visual feedback -
What is the large red circle on the map?
Varanon replied to Magirot's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Yeah, the lower left corner of the map, that's the origin ([0, 0, 0]). Good idea about moving it far off map. Thanks for the pointers, kju and Magirot, gonna use that in my mission. -
How touse Fly Im Height?
Varanon replied to Joe98's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
What is "this" in this case ? The pilot or the aircraft ? IIRC, putting "this flyinHeight x" on a waypoint will work, and on waypoints, this is always the team leader or the driver/pilot of the vehicle triggering the waypont... -
What is the large red circle on the map?
Varanon replied to Magirot's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Doesn't that move it to the origin position and leaves it there ? -
What is the large red circle on the map?
Varanon replied to Magirot's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
What nonsense comment is that ? Just because there is a modding community doesn't mean you have to elusively rely on modding. Do you even know if a mod can remove it ? I bet you don't even know. -

Made a ticket on the alpha tracker to urge BIS to make it an option that can be switched on and off in the difficulty settings. Please vote -
Limit battlefield borders
Varanon replied to XSOF - Toxx's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
The module has to be synchronized to the group that you want to have limited movement. Then, you need to set up a bunch of triggers without function but with predefined names (see the biki page). I've used this module before, if you want to, I can dig up a mission that makes use of it. -
Limit battlefield borders
Varanon replied to XSOF - Toxx's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Check the Zone Restriction editor module. It is not 100 % what you want, but it might be sufficient for your needs and is easy to sue -
Discussion on mission filename format
Varanon replied to Phantom Six's topic in ARMA 3 - USER MISSIONS
You're probably aware, but just to make sure, I wasn't thinking about the server browser, but the server control (where you select the mission that is played next). Just to be sure. -

What is the large red circle on the map?
Varanon replied to Magirot's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
That makes two of us. I can't see a point in it either. And not only that, you can not turn it off at all, it's even there on Elite difficulty with everything disabled... sigh... -
Arma 3 Alpha lacking Arma 2's immersion and fear factor.
Varanon replied to fixmygame's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm sure most of the people here are well aware of the differences between Arma 2 vanilla and ACE. I wonder if you actually do know the difference
