  1. I'd just like to note that this map has been in-game since ArmA 1, though it's been revised many times I think. It's very definitely possible.

If you are with the military/police or know anyone who is

Uh... I'm not bullshitting you here. Do you want the official US government website page where the USPS document soliciting ammunition is? https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&id=bc222ffef75536f044a0e0353788683b&tab=core&tabmode=list&print_preview=1 There's the EPA SWAT teams http://www.alaskadispatch.com/print/article/20130903/gold-miners-near-chicken-cry-foul-over-heavy-handed-epa-raids The TSA VIPR squads http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/06/us/tsa-expands-duties-beyond-airport-security.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 "The VIPR teams detain and search travelers at railroad stations, bus stations, ferries, car tunnels, ports, subways, truck weigh stations, rest areas, and special events." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visible_Intermodal_Prevention_and_Response_team etc. etc. etc.
  3. If you're not required to keep the work open source, may I ask what is the reason APL-SA even exists at all? SA = Share Alike, but if BI is not enforcing the SA part of APL-SA, then the license is essentially just APL, correct? This is something many addonmakers have been confused/annoyed about. I understand it is a general thing for the community to use as well, but I'm talking specifically about APL-SA as it applies to Bohemia content. It was my understanding that the way it was supposed to work is... Bohemia releases APL unbinarized content > Addonmaker uses it to create works > Addonmaker doesn't want his work modified > Addonmaker must release content under APL, Bohemia releases APL-SA unbinarized content > Addonmaker uses it to create works > Bohemia wants APL-SA content to remain open to the community > Addonmaker must release unbinarized content under APL-SA APL-SA was understood by many, in the beginning, to be the license used by Bohemia, and by community members, for when they want to release unbinarized content for others to modify as long as all versions, from the initial release to the end of time itself, are released under the same license, for others to continue to modify. This was thought to be why Bohemia released the majority of content under APL, and only the terrain source/etc. (Things that Bohemia wanted to remain open, if I remember correctly?) under APL-SA. Bohemia coming out publicly and saying makes many feel that you have no idea what you're doing, and causes us to view what was initially a genuine attempt at improving the situation, as something that has muddied the waters even further.

    some kind of existencial crisis

Well, by the line "it's been like that since you know him." (poor grammar isn't mine) I assume he means a friend of his, not just a random classmate. *shrug*
  5. Does this mean that since the Queen's Gambit files are included in the ALDP package that we can use, for example, the DC-3 as long as we use it in ArmA? I know this question toes the line of the rules, but I wish to be clear in my understanding of the legalities of this. Are we allowed to use programs (which cannot be discussed, per forum rules) to debinarize the ALDP files when necessary and modify/release them for the ArmA series (and only the ArmA series) under the appropriate licenses as dictated by Bohemia Interactive?

    some kind of existencial crisis

Eh, Cozza, failing grades can often be one of the most visible signs of a person starting to crack. It might be a surface issue, or it might be like Men In Black 2, with failing grades being the flower sticking out of the drain, and the real problems being the gigantic frakking subway size alien worm named Jeff. It's only something to seriously worry about if there are other things that back it up. Not talking as much, not getting enough sleep, not looking people in the eye, changes in what kind of music they listen to, general state of body maintenance (haircut, shave, etc.) if a bunch of signs occur at the same time, there's probably something driving them. That something can often lead to drug use or suicide attempts, so I can see why he asked the question. It does seem a bit too OT for OT, but I've seen far worse.

If you are with the military/police or know anyone who is

I dunno about the video, but as far as how they could do it, it's already being done. Did you know that every federal agency including the United States Postal Service is buying ammunition? That the TSA now has armed squads that rove around cities. The top 3 people in charge of our nuclear arsenal were removed (for fairly outrageous reasons that just sound fake), the people who turn the keys were replaced, officers in the military are being asked if they would fire on US citizens, all the AH-64s belonging to the National Guard were transferred to Active Duty control and the Guard was given Blackhawks in their place. You've got the BLM out with assault rifles and snipers and carrying M4s. Shit is going to hell man. I'm not a nutter that says Obama is behind it, nor Bush, nor any specific president, but it's been heading downhill for a long time.
  8. There's nothing hypothetical about it, it breaks the law to make money off of their copyright, which is what you were planning on doing. I have no problem with your project, I have no problem with Halo, nor SciFi, or anything of that sort. You'll be pushing into new territory for A3 and it'll be a very good thing, I think. The only problem I and others had was that you were entering it into MANW. By doing so, you were attempting or hoping to make money from it, no matter what you claim you "intended" (By the way, posting it in the MANW section shows you "intended" to enter it into MANW and hoped to have a chance at the prize) As for your claim that "you people here in the simulation community and forums" are afraid of Halo and that it's unrealistic and blablabla, you can take that line of thinking and shove it right up your posterior orifice, buddy, because nobody here even hinted at that, and because with that line you come across as trying to make it seem like you were bullied out or some crap. Grow the frak up.
  9. Just a heads up, you probably won't be able to get experienced scripters to join you. It's a Halo mod, plain and simple. Same equipment, same IP, same names for things. There's no getting around it. MS brings down the hammer on small mods that don't have any money at stake, so this one, where a buttload of money is at stake, you have no chance. Also, as you're planning to run for MANW, I wouldn't expect too much help from experienced people on these forums, because you'd be making money off their advice/assistance, and until MANW is over it's starting to appear a bit like every man for himself. Good luck, but I reeeaaaaally don't think this is going to go anywhere.

I'm curious, do you plan on releasing the other vehicles unbinarized, or just the T-72?

As the OH-6 had a canopy that could be broken by tree limbs (Source: Low Level Hell by Hugh Mills.) I see no problem with sidearms shooting through the canopy of it's grandchild. :p

    Happy Easter

I dunno about you guys, but I'm gonna be hiding in the dark with the biggest knife I can find. The damn easter bunny thinks he can break into my house, eh? Not this time. My dogs could use some fresh meat. ;)
  14. There's no such thing here, and there will never be.
  15. I never called myself a "hardcore gamer". I think the term itself is ridiculous. As far as the fps limit goes, it's improved since ArmA 1, since ArmA 2, since OA. ArmA is not CoD or Battlefield, and never will be. It will never have the performance of those games because those are first person shooters, and ArmA is more a hybrid of FPS and simulation. ArmA terrains are 100x, 1,000x the size of the maps of any FPS, the AI is far more complicated if a bit stupid at times, and the engine itself is like an old racehorse. He gets smarter with age, knowing where to run the track, but bit by bit the younger horses gain on him. We're near the last race of the RV engine, I suspect, but the simple fact is that you cannot compare ArmA to any other game, so quit trying. If you don't like the FPS, don't play it.
  16. I've never gotten above 40. My average is 20-25, and I've been playing ArmA for the last 7 years. You have no idea what a "hardcore gamer" is, sonny. There is no single definition. Somebody who plays for an hour here and there but does so with friends and intense missions could be "hardcore". Or do you think it means veterans of FPS and Milsim, tournament players and the like? I used to play 12 hour days every Saturday in one of the best tournaments out there. Does that make me "hardcore"? Pull your head out of your posterior orifice, get some fresh air, and toggle the little handle on the side of your head because right now you're so full of shit your eyes are turning brown.
  17. I'm talking about several years ago now. T_Roc was a part of the 31st Normandy mod. He was "making" tanks etc. for that mod specifically. They didn't know it was stolen work til they got a lawsuit or several, if my finicky brain is working properly. Hell, I could have sworn he got banned from the BI forums...
  18. T_Roc was discovered to have been stealing models from a shitload of other games, was he not? I'd steer far away from anything involving him if I were you...

    High Quality Addons Project [HQAP]

Couldn't have said it better myself, Pufu. Actually, you're completely and totally wrong here. If you do not have the ability to contribute in a meaningful way to an addonmakers work, then you have no, i say again, *no* input on the addon/mod/mission at all, whatsoever, in any way shape or form, unless the addonmaker or mod team specifically seeks your input. (Bug reports are separate from this, obviously). Please, for the love of Kobol, pull your frakking head out of your godsdamned posterior orifice before it gets stuck up there. Drongo stated the obvious here guys. The "new community" needs to pay attention. This is the second, maybe third, or even the fourth, time that an "idea guy" has suggested some BS "quality control" for addons. It's been squashed by this community for the last 7, if not the last 13, years. It's not going to happen. Pack up and head back to your bean stash in Cherno, please.

    Boeing C-17 ArmA 3 Mod

Just a note, Mukcep converted a whole bunch of FS models to ArmA. If I were you, I would attempt to contact him to either confirm he created the whole thing, or to get the original FS author if it's one of his conversions.

  24. Real ArmA community my ass. I know plenty of people have donation buttons on their sites. It's logical. However, I misunderstood Alduric's post and thought it was similar to the Life mod/DayZ type, where the guys are making thousands of dollars a month off selling in-game items for donations. As for "understanding the souls of modders" I'm one myself, so I think I've got that covered. Alduric, I apologize further for the offtopic posts resulting from my original posts. Hopefully there will be no more after this.
  25. Then why not say that, instead of saying you'll release it when you get donations. An extra 1-2 minutes of typing and you no longer sound like an ass. I apologize for my comment, reading the post I replied to it seemed like you were trying to pull off what most of the shady Life/DayZ groups are doing.
