  1. Well put, like I said as long as issues get fixed along with the addition of content what isn't there to be happy about? I hope this also doesn't prevent regular patches out for ARMA2 in the mean time, that would be sad. PS...appreciating the mod and dev feedback on this and it's nice to see a little feistiness, shows you guys are in it to win.
  2. Good point...although valid concerns and issues made..and probably not the most ideal response to his issues.

    ArmAII-Mark

I agree and yeah it doesn't explain everything, just some of the factors. I'm willing to bet the Win7 would make a huge difference for you if you give it a try, yet I completely understand the frustrations. When my game is running and not crashing I actually get decent performance. But I was in the same boat as you with ARMA1, I had a great SLI system that ran like crap on it and was very frustrating until I just changed my hardware setup.

    ArmAII-Mark

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=83624 check this out, it basically experiments and discovers that two video cards are useless other threads also discuss that windows 7 is also keep to FPS increase you get the same mark i get because I have only one GTS260 you ahve two which makes no difference and I have a Q6600 2.4GHz which explains why your mark is slightly higher. We have almost the same everything else. I'd recommend going to Windows 7 to see what you achieve..I learned my lesson with SLI in ARMA1 :) you get no performance increase whatsoever, which is basically what that link explains in heavy detail.

    ARMA II Community Update

Yeah, it really is awesome, I hope it doesn't keep them from their work too much but it is nice hearing informal updates on what's up...it truly does go a long way in morale and optimism for the future of ARMA2

    ARMA II Community Update

    haha, that's awesome
  7. if my strategy was as follows: ARMA1 released...wait...ARMA2 released...go buy/play ARMA1 have fun...ARMA3 released...go buy/play ARMA2 have fun! if I played one notch under the release curve it would have been pretty awesome I think...playing ARMA1 on Win 7 some new hardware, and patched up is a whole nother game from my when I got ARMA even at 1.06 :)

    ARMA II Community Update

I've noticed more mod/dev involvement recently, is there a way to tag threads to show that a mod and/or developer has replied in that thread. I know some forums that do that and I think that would be really interesting to see!
  9. Yeah I missed out on the ARMA1 release completely and have no idea how that happened. I didn't discover ARMA1 was out until around 1.08 release which is actually kind of a good thing cause at least i saw it at a somewhat mature state.
  10. It was a LONG time ago, but I do remember out-of-the-box finishing the entire OFP campaign without a problem at all...that's an indicator of quality right there. Not possible in ARMA1 and because of that some people haven't even attempted campaign yet because they don't wanna have to do it all over after a major patch fixes the known issues keeping people from finishing the ARMA2 campaign. Like I said, that was just my experience with OFP vs. ARMA
  11. Nailed it...should be posted in BIS office, it's simple and short and exactly answers the thread topic :) Excellent. Unbelievable. Brilliant
  12. This is clearly turning into the close-minded discussion of why ARMA/BIS are the best and no one could ever do what they have done. No matter how hard any other developer tries. ARMA1 or ARMA2 failed to achieve that acclaim that OFP was despite being made by the same guys...sure they lost the name but that should not matter if they make another set of quality products...didn't OFP get PC Gamer, Game of the Year?? ARMA1 or ARMA2 could never ever be in the running for that. Just because CM took the name does not give excuse to the reduction in quality from OFP -> ARMA series. OFP was successful and it didn't have a reputation before it. We don't know yet what OFPDR is really going to be like until we all play it and we don't know what amazing improvements BIS may or may not make to ARMA2. if ARMA1 or ARMA2 had the quality on release that OFP had it would have assuredly attained Game of the Year and we wouldn't have an issue on sales.
  13. To be fair, it was on the top of the thread list, so why create a whole new thread about the expansion when it was right there...no searching required
  14. It's kinda pathetic that the two top threads right now: -Expansion -Campaign Needs Rework Doesn't make much sense to me really to be doing this

    ARMA II Community Update

I mean that's how it was in ARMA1 I don't see why it would be different this time
  16. I'll meet your 1000 internet points and raise you 5500 of mine, breaking the bank on confidence of this :) They have bigger things right now than getting that together so yeah not for the foreseeable future is that happening.
  17. I'll try to help... OFP: I bought OFP around release day, never bought the expansions though. I vaguely recall regular patch releases and incremental progress reports that were awesome, especially since many patches included additional content..an apache if I recall. The campaign was quite amazing too, I got through the whole thing and it was only one or two patches after release when I tried to. It wasn't an issue and never remember anything show-stopping keeping me from finishing the campaign. Loved OFP and messed with the editor for many years. ARMA1: Found out ARMA came out and had no idea it had to do with BIS/Codemasters issues or that it was a descendant of OFP. Didn't realize this until a friend showed me a video of it and I picked it up right away about the time that 1.08 was released. It was a major let down. Couldn't play it on my current hardware setup due to incompatibility with my top of the line GPU at the time. It was a major fail and I only ever did the 1st mission of the campaign and messed with the editor a little. Never did anymore than that and never got my money's worth like OFP...went be recently to play and it works amazingly wonderful at 1.14 and on my current hardware setup, what a difference a year makes. Still working on campaign now and performance is great...a little to late to make a difference on my feelings toward ARMA. Never got the expansion after hearing what a waste it was for many. ARMA2: So ARMA2 comes out and I'm like great, it'll have all the fixes they made in ARMA1 but with better graphics and a new campaign! yay!....I was so wrong. I felt swindled again, just to be sure I recently bought OFP:Gold to play over again and was amazed by just how well it worked and how much fun it was even to this day because it worked like it should and did not have any of the fustrations of ARMA1/ARMA2. ARMA2 worked on my hardware setup, but still can't get past the 2nd or 3rd missions in the campaign. Get a CTD or lockup about an average of 1/hour or so. I haven't found a smooth/unlaggy multiplayer experience yet. But boy howdy are the graphics pretty and the editor is hours of fun. Frustrating is that bugs from OFP that were fixed are now in ARMA2, bugs from ARMA1 that were fixed are now in ARMA2, so it's like starting all over but without the stability of the original OFP relase and with prettier graphics. This is just my impression and opinion and is by no means representation of everyone's experience. But this is my history and experience of my love/hate relationship with the OFP series :) 1.03 hasn't fixed much for me in what I saw as problems, but hopefully future patches will, if it is like ARMA1 it should be about 6 months to a year from now. I still make massive battles in OFP cause it doesn't kill my computer and I can spend hours on it without it crashing and I play ARMA2 when I want to see pretty pictures

    ARMA II Community Update

I am very impressed with this initiative set forward and it really shows us that you've noticed our main concern: "Sure, the game isn't perfect, but as long as we know you are working on it and what you are working on and when you plan to release things..that's awesome" This is a nice small first step and it'll be interesting to see how well you guys continue to commit to communicating with the community regularly on progress. We all want this game to be very successful or we wouldn't be "whining" about our legitimate concerns. So that can enjoy ARMA2 how it was envisioned, not how it was originally executed :) Thanks BIS, I hope you keep this going.
  19. You originally sounded like what a previous poster stated: Fair enough, this is how talks about these two games should be imo. And not "OMGZ DR IS THE WORST GAME EVER" or "OMG!! ARMA2 SUCKS SO BAD ITS TEH WORST OF ALL TIMEZ AND UNPLAYABLE!" Both games have their merit and I have looked at all the videos recently released and read on their forum and in my opinion are quite impressive and go beyond your standard arcade shooter...that's just me though, you're entitled to your opinion. Not saying I am happy with many of the features announced so far but impressed from my previous low expectations of OFPDR. Lastly, they aren't totally different at all, sure they are different in many ways but why are so many people comparing various features if they are so totally different as you put it. Do your research before you start sounding like the above quote...I'm not supporting one or the other especially since OFPDR isn't even out yet let alone many of its details and to be honest I'll end up owning both when it's all done and over. Chill out.

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

The reason why we haven't heard or probably won't hear from BIS on the console release is that they simply can't be one if you think logically about it... Imagine if you released ARMA to the 360 in it's current state it would really be a joke compared to the stability required of console games. If we remove that fact that the 360 is only a single hardware platform and very easy to test there are still dozens of major software issues that need to be resolved before it is close to release on the 360.. maybe on patch 1.20 two years from now I'd love to see a 360 version for more casual play, as then it will at the point it should be stable enough :) ---------- Post added at 11:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 AM ---------- Those console numbers are extremely dissapointing :(
  21. Some people should do their research, that is for console which is quite dissheartening... Doing some research and I hear anywhere from 16 - 32 vs 16 -32 in PC and with that you command a squad or something so it's really 32*4 vs 32*4 potential. Either way don't state certainties that haven't been officially announced and spout your biased OFPDR uneducated hate message... I was actually dissapointed about this too when I heard the numbers even if it is 32 vs 32 max with a squad under you, kinda useless when they have this massive island to work with. We'll see

    Campaign needs to be addressed

I've tried the campaign three times now (started over twice during 1.02 and again in 1.03) After I've made decent progress in the larger missions my game locks up on me at the moment I'm thinking hmmm I should save it now...pisses the hell outta me Oh well, back to the editor where I make my own fun, not as exciting but at least it's something :)
  23. That's like saying a game that spits out chocolate lollipops hey no other game can do that! Awesome! But the lollipops taste like crap instead thus nullifying any benefit if it being able to spit out chocolate lollipops in the first place. Same goes for your point, saying you can do 100 players is just saying something living up to the experience of 100 player servers (rather 10 players at least) working efficiently should be like is a whole another thing. I could say alot of things about this game that are in no other, doesn't mean it actually works like it should. ---------- Post added at 10:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:52 AM ---------- Typical ignorant fanboy response right there... Like I said we'll see. Codemasters is very slowly releasing detail by detail about the game so don't just smack it down just yet. Both ARMA2 (once fixed hopefully) and OFPDR are going to be fun games in their own respects if you like shootings things, it just depends on how you like to shoot :) Don't state such extremities that you really nor anyone else knows nothing about except the developer at this point. ON ANOTHER NOTE: Looks like Placebo put up a Community Update on Announcements. All I gotta say it's about time and this is definitely a small step in the right direction.
  24. Oh yeah I've been on a 100+ server once before, it was a horrible laggy system that was completely not playable oh and after 5minutes my game CTD'd which thankfully doesn't happen that much to me. In those 5 minutes it was just chaos and stupidity with really nothing to do anyhow. So why tought 100+ player servers when it isn't even fun?
  25. Yeah, as said earlier my friends skipped out on me with ARMA2 so I play alone, MP is pretty unplayable for me anyhow. So it'll be nice to have a game that hopefully will be kinda like ARMA but accessible enough that I can get my friends to play it with me either on PC or 360. ARMA Potential > OFPDR Potential but the level of potential and actual execution rarely match up, we'll see about a month from now what happens.
