    Cold War Rearmed Discussion

How will you go about recreating the Campaign missions to be like – or close to – the originals? Do you have all the Mission Editor details available to you and whatnot? I really would love to be able to play some of those classic missions like Pathfinder, Turning The Tide, Return To Eden, etc. in the ArmA environment... but with the 'feel' of the original missions. Do you really think it'll all be possible? Also, what about the scripted voices used in the missions – you'll just use the good old ones?

A campaign I once played... but lost

For pre-Resistance OFP, I once downloaded this random campaign sometime between March and May 2003 which had some pretty decent missions I managed to have a lot of fun with. Basically, you played the part of a civilian who kinda made up his own resistance group against attacking Russians (not as grandiose as OFP:RES)... stuff happens yada yada... then right at the end, there was this long-ass unarmed mission where you had to escort the player's wife to a church or something. I can't describe it any better than that! Oh, and it had the Desert island in one mission. Was really, really entertaining stuff. You had to camp out until a certain time of day, then sneak right across the island into an enemy fortification, at night, to blow up some hangars and return to the camping spot. I'd love to play that again! No voice acting, just radio and subtitles for dialogue. Player was one of the brown-haired civilians, iirc. Anyone remember it?

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

Obviously I have the same gripes as everyone else, but for me the absolute killing point for ArmA (to which I often find myself simply exiting a mission and firing up good ol' OFP in relief) has to be the radio chatter. It sounds so bad... so horrendous... so incredibly terrible... everything negative beyond belief! Granted, OFP didn't have amazing chatter (and was very limited in many ways), but it always did what I needed it to do during missions. Didn't sound too disjointed and clunky, either – for 2001 at least. But ArmA's chatter just sounds like a bunch of fast-spoken individual words tacked together, with an annoying "bip-bip" at the end. Plus, there's no end to them! I feel like saying "SHUUUUUUUT UUUUUUUUP!!" (like Arnie in 'Kindergarten Cop' ) after 1 minute of my squad yelling "Two!Target!SOLDIER!!At!One o'clock!", etc. Just bad voice acting. Oh, and the campaign still has yet to draw me in like CWC, RH and RES did. It feels like a very cheap movie with a half-assed script and no real beginning. Whereas with OFP, I felt genuinely engrossed in those campaigns – as if the success of the missions really was down to me and my squad command tactics (RES especially). There was a beginning, a middle and an end. I felt satisified from start to finish. I've had ArmA for 2 weeks, and I've barely touched the campaign through lack of interest in the story! I don't know what's going on in Sahrani (other than some reporter broad yapping about a war that suddenly broke out), nor do I care. On Everon, Malden and Nogova I actually wanted to know – with keen interest – what happened next.

    Double-tap commands not working

Whew. My first post here in more than five years! Too bad it's under slightly negative circumstances... Anyway. On the demo, my double-taps always worked fine. But since I bought the full European game (and patched to 1.08), they've never worked from the beginning. I've tried them in all manner of combinations, but never a single double-tap works regardless of how much I bash the key! The only thing that happens is the single-press action, and nothing more. I'd like to have the following basic commands as double-taps: 2xA – evasive left 2xD – evasive right 2xW – evasive forward 2xE – forward (the slower run) Anyone else having this problem?

So why dont you play ofp anymore?

Eheh, looks like Flight Simulator 2002 has totally overruled OFP in my gaming life right now. Seems like AGES since I last played OFP... And seems like ages since I last posted in these forums... Ah well, I'm sure the OFP bug will bite me once again, someday

    Someone translate the russian lingo!

Actually, if you play an English voice backwards... it sounds Russian Maybe English was just invented by chance, by some guy who learnt to speak Russian backwards Tovarish - Danke schön/thank you very much/kiitos paljon/spasiba/and any other thanks possible! Dem translations rocked

    Making a trigger activate...

Uhm, doesn't seem to work... I must be doing something wrong; although I've put exactly what you said in the appropriate places. By the way, two of the BMPs are empty, and the other two are operational. Could the emptiness have something to do with it?
  8. I want a trigger to state that the "1st" objective has been completed, when four specified BMPs [all with their own names] have been blown up. Also, I want the trigger to make the radio useable to the player, to call in some choppers - how do you make the radio unavailable until this objective has been cleared?

    Someone translate the russian lingo!

A UAZ? I never get picked up by any UAZ All I do from the start is get into the chopper [the Russian guy starts saying that weird line immediately], and then once it arrives at the camp, I disembark, and listen to this Spetsnaz guy talkin' what sounds to be shit , and then I follow him to the prison tent, where he then says "get in the tent, little American" [thanks, Tovarish for translating that one ]. They seem to shout a lot of stuff when I start running away, but I'm sure it isn't friendly talk . If there's one thing I like about this mission, is the way their faces are modelled - they look nasty and bloody evil!

    Someone translate the russian lingo!

Oooo, kool! At least now I know what that little comment meant As for the previous comments - well, as I said; they are DIRECT from what I hear, lol. It's actually quite tricky to attempt to write Russian in the English alphabet, as well as not having a clue as to what they are meant to be saying Still though, I'm left wondering what the Spetsnaz guy is saying [sounding quite nastily] when you step off the chopper

Anyone planning on making usaf f16?

Uhm, I think he means - "I apologise"

    Someone translate the russian lingo!

Lmao, here's what I can make out from the Spetsnaz guy, after you disembark the Hind: "Werdes dies... Amerikans bistarijiber... idis ornot... enipotashadasha jelotkolobotste" That is exactly what my ear picks up - I dePBO'ed the mission, and used Goldwave to play the sound in sections. Just say it in a Russian tone, and it might, just MIGHT sound like something...! Try! Here's another one, when you have to follow the guard to the tent enclosure: "Schtay ta tysgreisatilisch... jeht stavay... ötö lwedish" And one more, just before you enter your prison tent: "Rahadiv polatko... Amerikanschka"

    Someone translate the russian lingo!

I'm guessing this is offtopic, seeing as it doesn't relate to any important aspects of the game, but either way: in the 1985 Campaign mission 'Escape From Prison', what are the Russian guards all saying? BIS didn't bother to put a translation for the nasty Russians' comments, so can someone tell me: a) what the Spetsnaz guy says when you step off the chopper, b) what the guy who you are supposed to follow to the enclosure is saying repeatedly, c) what the guard in front of the tent says, just before you step in. I love the Russian lingo, and it would kool to know what they're saying to Sam Nichols all that time.

    Scud nice littel truck!

Hmm, good topic to stumble across... One thing I was wondering: how do you get a driver of a scud to LAUNCH the missile, and subsequently make the mission a failure after about, say, 20 seconds? Like, a trigger detects if the missile has been launched, and force-ends the mission. How's this done?

    Eviscerator & colorcharger's tornado

I'm blaspheming OFP by treating it like a flight sim again, just like when I first got OFP back in August - simply because the 'Nado flies so beautifully! Smooth, responsive, and agile [at least to OFP standards] - gorgeous! I admit I was a bit surprised about the autoland bug, but I'm sure that'll be fixed [?] The control surfaces are ever so nifty, and paint looks so awesome! The AA version's missiles sound nicely raucous when launched, and the speed is perfect One small sidenote: is it possible to add new options into the Action Menu - like afterburners perhaps?
