Triggers and waypoints for dummies!
rick rawlings replied to Danbri's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
You have to select all your troops and order them to disembark. The chopper will then land and you can get out. There is a command that tells the chopper to fly at a certain height, setFlyInHeight, but I am new to editing as well and I haven't played around with it too much, your milage may vary. Rick -
Triggers and waypoints for dummies!
rick rawlings replied to Danbri's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Ok, basically what you want to do is synchronize the movement of two groups, one is your infantry squad and one is your chopper group. 1. Start up the editor 2. Load the Sahrani island. 3. Drag the map over to the right until you see the big airstrip NW of Paraiso. 4. Zoom in to the left side of the runway. 5. Click on "Groups" on the right side of the editor. 6. Left Click on the left end of the runway: choose Blufor, Infantry Squads, Basic Squad, Ok. 7. No Player was selected, click Ok. 8. Left click on "Units" on the right of the editor. 9.. Zoom in until you see all the little green guys. Find the one that has all the  blue lines going to him. This is the leader. Double left click on him. 10. Go to "Control" and click "Player". Click on all the other green guys and select "playable" if you want, all your on-line buddies can go with you for this short ride... 11. Slightly to the right of your new squad, double left click on the runway. 12. Under "Class" select "Air" and to the right of that, "Unit", select "UH-60". Click "OK". 13. Left click on "group", Left click and hold on your chopper and drag the mouse away from your squad and release. This should make the little blue line that was connecting your squad to your chopper go away, thus un-grouping them. 12. Left click on "Waypoints" Double click somewhere near your chopper and select type "load". Click "Ok" 13. Scroll over to near the right side of the runway and double click again. Select type "Unload". Click "Ok". 14. Scroll somewhere out in the middle of the ocean. Double left click and select type "Move". Click "Ok". 15. Click on your squad infantry leader. He should become a darker green. Double click somewhere near your chopper's "load" waypoint. Select "Get In". Click "Ok". 16. Double click somewhere near your chopper "unload" waypoint. Slelect type "Get Out". Click "Ok". 17 Double left click on the very end of the right side of the runway. Select type "Move". Select "Always Show". Click "Ok". 18. Here's the magic part: Click "Synchronize" on the right side of the editor. 19. Left click and hold on your "Get In" waypoint and drag a line to your "Load" waypoint. There will now be a dark line between them. 20. Do the same with your "Get Out" and "Unload" waypoints at the other end of the runway. 20. SAVE 21 Preview. What will happen: the mission will start and the helicopter will spool up and take off and hover 25 feet above you. Wait for this to happen. Select all your men and order them to board the chopper. The chopper will drop down to about two feet and you can board. As soon as everyone is in, the chopper will take off again and fly "SOMEWHERE" near the end of the runway and go into a hover. Order your men to disembark and the chopper will drop to about two feet at the end of the runway, you can get out and the chopper will take off and fly away, leaving you free to walk back to the other end of the runway. I do not know how to prevent the chopper from taking off at the beginning before you board, this seems to be a dicey issue with A.I. pilots! Good luck and welcome to mission editing Rick -
Anybody who uses the Muppet Show's "Mahna Mahna" sequence as their icon gets my eternal thanks! Rick Heh, everybody! I was trying to say that Balschoiw has a cool image!

Ahhhh, thanks! Works like a charm! I'm much less of an _x expert than you! Rick

Hi, When I tried this I get a "forEach: Type String, expected code" error. Thanks! Rick

Whoah! Whatdya work for Fox News or something? While I would love to see windage and adjustable optics rather than just guessing or memorizing a dot location for different ranges, neutral responses are the norm for legitimate polling purposes. Realism is not the only reason someone would not want this and you will diminish the impact of your poll if you resort to conjecture. Rick

Think you're having difficulty witht the flight model? I saw a video on the Military channel of a guy doing a landing in a hot LZ during Vietnam and he actually banged the tail rotor pylon into the ground when he flared. Real life, game, seems no one's completely happy with their flight model... Rick

Don't forget, if you give them blue lasers on their heads they can record, and then in their free time, watch videos of their kills in blu-ray format. Rick

Gun Position In 1st Person (AND) Optics
rick rawlings replied to Rg's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well, as someone with a 17" monitor, I kinda need that first zoom. In every game where this has been modeled, I have always understood this to represent your "focus" as you look down the sights, limiting your attention to other things. When I am target practicing, I am concentrating on hitting the target and my buddies could be making faces at me off to the side and I probably wouldn't notice it. I agree that for someone using no ccrosshairs a better unsighted view would be useful for close-in shots where you are surpirsed. I suppose nothing will ever be perfect on a computer screen where you are sitting two feet away from your in-game weapon. Keep in mind that all of this is just me supposing and I am certainly not above being convinced otherwise. As it is now, I kinda like the iron sight system. -
Hey, I am desinging a mission where you get on a chopper at base, are taken to a crash site where the downed chopper's crew joins up with you, you blow the remains of the chopper and then escort the crew to the extraction point. I currently have two problems. First, I synced a "load" and "get in" waypoint at the base chopper but as the mission starts, the chopper spools up, takes off and waits. When I give the "All, get in...chopper at ...x o'clock", it then lands and allows us to board. Is there anyway in the editor to have it wait for us to board after spooling up or does this have to be scripted? Secondly, I set a destroy waypoint on the downed chopper but when I blow it with a satchel, my guys think I have lost it and take me out for destroying a "freindly" unit. (Funny the first 12 times, but not what I was going for overall  ) How can I solve this problem? The chopper is not associated with any groups. Thanks for any help! Rick

Rgr. So basically, my file is correct, it just may be in the wrong extension? The file is blank except for the respawn command. That's the way it's supposed to be? Thanks! Rick edit: ok, so I checked the file extension and it seems to be ok, but I still go to seagull mode, even with multiple playable positions in my squad. I am putting the file in the used saved folder in the individual folders where the briefings go before I export it to multiplayer. Is this the correct way to do it? Thanks!

Cold War Rearmed Discussion

If you guys need any help re-recording the voices, let me know. I've been practicing. Listen: "5...go to....tree..at..5 o'clock..." "5...report status..." "Oh, no...5...is down" "This is...4...taking command" Rick- 1061 replies

The flight model now is not that difficult. I have a joystick and rudder pedals so I can do all kinds of fun stuff, but my buddy was able to adapt to the keyboard and mouse enough after about 5 min to be able to attack a convoy with 2 shilkas with me as a gunner. That's just with literally 5-10 minutes of practice. As far as this goes.. targeting with the mouse would also allow you to skip the voice directions "target this, target that," as you cycle, which by the time it comes around to the shilka you are dead already if flying with an A.I. gunneredit: I left the whole original quote at the top...

Hey, I tried to get a multiplayer respawn to work but so far no-joy I used notepad to create a file called description and in it I wrote respawn=4, clicked save as, type:all files "description.ext" and put it in my mission folder for that mission under user missions. Made all the units for blufor playable and exported the mission to multiplayer but when we played it, we still became seagulls. Anything obvious I am doing wrong? Thanks for the help Rick

Chopper Insertion Problems

Heh, wow, that's pretty clever. It will take me a while to figure out how to do that, but thanks for the hard work and helping me out! Rick! -
Chopper Insertion Problems
rick rawlings replied to rick rawlings's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Green, couldn't find a way to have it selectable as empty. Will this make a difference? The pilot feels it is "his" and gets mad when I destroy it? edit: was trying to put the chopper down before adding a player, so "empty" wasn't coming up. Even when I made the chopper empty and then destroyed it, my guys still attacked me. Â Thanks for any help! Rick -
Try alt-tabbing out of the game and then back in (er...pause it first) this clears it up for me for another hour or so... Rick

Chopper Insertion Problems
rick rawlings replied to rick rawlings's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Argghhh, thanks for all the help with the chopper boarding problems, which I swear I am going to get to as soon as I solve my other problem. I still have my troops turn on me after I blow up the downed chopper and shoot me as I described in the original post. To try to isolate the problem, I tried a new mission. I created a saboteur unit as the player on the northern airbase on the southern island. Further down the runway, I created a new group with a chopper and another pilot. The chopper is completely damaged so the pilot starts outside. I created waypoints so that the two pilots will join me on my approach. I then set a destroy waypoint for the chopper. When I run the mission, the two pilots join me fine. I then send them waaaaaaay down the runway and rig the chopper with a satchel. When I back up and blow it, they immediately target me and open fire. Any ideas? Thanks! Rick -
What, are you kidding?!? This patch blows! Two months and hundreds of hours of work and they still can't get those last two boxes to check... Seriously though, I love it. The new iron sights are worth the price of admission alone. Makes me kind of frustrated though that I spent all those years lurching around like Young Frankenstein trying to get the drop on someone in Operation Flashhpoint though I've noticed no gain or drop in performance although I still get the LOD/Lag spike problem, but alt-tabbing seems to clear that up. I guess the best thing I can say about this game is that I set up a simple convoy destroy mission for the cobra in the mission editor, literally 3 minutes of work, and my buddy and I co-oped on it for a solid hour! The patch just helps make everything better. Good job BIS! (Don't stop though! ) Rick

Chopper Insertion Problems
rick rawlings replied to rick rawlings's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks for the tips guys, I will probably get back to the chopper loadup tomorrow. I have been frustrated by my attempts to blow the downed chopper. The two pilots at the site will join my squad, but half the time one of them refuses to move, so I end up "destroying" him too, my guys definitely don't like that! I should have some more time over the next couple of days to give it a shot. Thanks for all the help! Rick -
Chopper Insertion Problems
rick rawlings replied to rick rawlings's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Heh, I'm not doing triggers, just the editor. I will see if I can puzzle through it tho  . With regards to blowing the chopper, there is no one in it and I move my guys away quite a ways, but I will double check it again. If I have a subordinate blow it there is no problem, they only attack me when I do it. Thanks for the help, Rick -
This actually worked wonders for me and helped bring the enemy down to a more believable level. Give it a shot! Rick
