    Tanks - Damage improvements

The tyres/tires on the Rhino are very fragile. I'm constantly damaging or destroying them on small objects like rocks and those low rubble walls. I don't remember having so many problems with flat tires with the other wheeled armored vehicles (Marshal, Marid, Strider, Gorgon, etc)... is the damage threshold different for the Rhino's tires? Could I make a plea to at least include a repair kit in the vehicle inventory so I can change the tires and not just abandon the vehicle?

    X-Cam-Taunus Version 1.1

This might be the best new map I've seen for Arma/OFP since the old Tonal map for OFP1. Amazing sense of place - it doesn't feel like any other map I've played, and it feels like a unique place I want to spend more time in. Excellent work.

    Tanks DLC Feedback

I appreciate your point of view, but I think interiors for tanks would be a massive waste of resources. Think of all the time, effort and resources to make something that will not even be used in a fight - they would be entirely cosmetic. Adding functionality to crew positions (moving maps, situational awareness, damage reports, etc.) make sense from a functionality perspective, but can be done with relatively simple UI updates. But modeling interiors to see a bunch of buttons you can't push? Why would you look at that instead of outside of the periscopes or sights? At least in the case of the personnel carriers, the infantry have nothing else to do, so you might as well let them look at each other. But tanks?

    Tanks DLC Feedback

Hi. I really like the ideas thrown in so far. I have nothing to add about specific functionality, given that I'm not a modder and haven't touched a config in many years. However, there are some interesting developments in armored vehicle technology in the works - things like on-board UAVs in vehicles (sometimes gun launched, sometimes thrown by the commander out of his cupola), vehicle data networks (like Blue Force Tracker - I imagine a small toggled minimap for the crew?), thermal-reducing camouflage (mostly in camo net form now, but potentially in paint and adaptive electric armor), active protection systems (electronic or physical), and band tracks (basically reinforced rubber for a quieter ride). Useful interior views (not 3D interiors, mind you, but a driver first-person view with maybe a moving map, rear-view camera and system damage indicator in some of the black space around the view port) would be pretty helpful for those who don't often play with third person view. Hopefully this DLC will allow or introduce advanced features for tanks/armored vehicles like the helicopter DLC introduced advanced flight models. And if you're looking for a tank to model, I've always had a soft spot for the M8 Thunderbolt variant with the electric drive and 120mm gun. ;) http://tanknutdave.com/m8-thunderbolt-armored-gun-system/
  5. Thanks, Günter! I'm on a laptop, so every gig on my hard drive is precious.
  6. Quick, dumb question: once I have IFA3 working, can I delete the stand alone IF install? IFA3 doesn't reference anything from there, does it?

    RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

It's a mother beautiful mod - especially in the details. Thank you.
  8. Howdy fellas, So, I've decided that I love Arma2. I think it greatly improved upon OFP (nevermind Arma1). I wonder, and feel free to smack me across the face for this, if it'd be possible to recreate one of my favorite old games in Arma II - Gunship 2000. The idea in my head is that you load the campaign, and the first mission gives you a choice of teams to play. US Army, US Marines, US Navy, CDF and/or the Russians. Once you pick a team, you then get to pick your aircraft. For the US Army, obviously, the AH-64, OH-58, UH-60 or CH-47 (maybe AH/MH-6). You then fly that airframe for the duration of the campaign, with mission selections tailored to that airframe (i.e. OH-58 would have scouting missions, transport escort, light attack, etc., and UH-60s would do air assaults, dustoffs, resupply, CSAR, etc.) The missions themselves would be like the dynamic campaigns I used to play in OFP, where it's essentially one big mission that goes on and on and develops over time. It'd be pretty cool if you could scale the mission so you start off doing COIN type missions, then move on to conventional missions as the game goes on, gradually upping the difficulty. I think it could be done with the ACE mod pretty well, and maybe one or two more mods (I've made Navy MH-60S missions with Gnat's frigates and the merchant ships, for example, that were more fun than I expected them to be). It's been a long time since I've done any Arma/OFP/VBS editing and I'm rather gainfully employed making government cheese now, so I'm probably not the best person to head up any kind of project, though I can certainly help with design and potentially with some minor scripting. Thoughts, comments? Has anyone done anything remotely similar to this before? Anyone tried?

    ArmA 2 Game Launcher

I'm having a weird problem with the launcher all of a sudden. I launch it, but it never comes up. It's showing as an active program in my Win7 launch bar, but when I click on it to maximize it, nothing happens. I can see a preview of it though. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times now, as well as repairing it from the installer. Not sure what I did to screw this up. Any help? Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    Arma 3 Officially Announced!

Hahaha... dude, you have no idea who I am and what I've done. I think I complimented Arma2 very well. I love it. It's by far the best game I've played in years. I just think the OA, ION and BAF campaigns are horrible. I also said Arma3 looks great. I'm really looking forward to it. And yes, most of the community missions are crap, unless you're playing different ones than I am. There are also a few gems out there.

    Arma 3 Officially Announced!

Looks very pretty. The features list is impressive. The campaign sounds, well, shitty. but BIS has never, ever been known for good campaigns. Arma II's Chernarussian campaign was actually pretty well done and enjoyable, but the OA, BAF and ION campaigns were abysmally bad. It's clear that no matter how much work BIS puts into their games, their campaigns and most SP and MP missions will be shit. Polished shit, to be sure, but clearly designed and created by people who have no idea what the fuck they're talking about. Except, again, the Chernarus campaign. Whomever did that had either done their research or knew WTF they were doing. That being said, 95% of all user-made missions are horrible too. And as an old OFPer, our motto was always "We don't want the game, we want the game engine!" I spend literally 100% of my Arma2 time in the editor or playing missions I've made in the editor.
  13. Great aircraft. It's the most fun I've had flying a fixed wing aircraft in Arma2 yet. The armament system is great!

    1S91 Fire Control Radar

OK, dumb question. Can someone explicitly step-by-step tell me how to integrate this with the SA-6 launchers? I rename the radar "radar1" like the readme says, but when I try to paste "?!(alive "radar1"):this setCombatMode "BLUE";" in the init field of either the launchers or triggers, I get 'invalid number in expression' errors. It's been years since I did anything with BIS games, so I'm probably having a massive brain fart...

    COOP 20 Takistan Force (OA)

I really, really love this mission. It encompasses everything great about Arma2 for me. Reminds me of the good old OFP dynamic campaign days. Mucho thanks, bud. BTW, anyone have any cool mission ideas or files to add?

    Germany 1985

Hello Flashpointers and soon-to-be ArmAssassins: Earlier this year, several leading OFP mod teams came together with a common vision and purpose. The Bundeswehr mod, Lowland Warrior mod, CSLA mod, Red Hammer Studios, Combat!, and several leading independent addon makers are proud to announce: Germany 1985 – a modification for Armed Assault. As you might expect, the mod will cover a hypothetical war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact in 1985, with a storyline derived from Tom Clancy’s Red Storm Rising. Initial work on the mod is already well underway and will pick up significantly once Armed Assault is in our hands, the capabilities of the new game engine are better understood and the required modding tools are available. Each mod team will use standardized values (derived from JAM, CAVS, and likely ACES) and will work on a sort of “plug-in†system, where each team works on their own modules that plug into the core G85 game. Models, textures, terrain and expertise is shared amongst all members to ensure the high quality you’d expect from these mod teams. Our website and forums are now up and running: http://g85.combataddons.net We encourage you to stop by for the latest news and updates as they happen. We’re also looking for new talent to help out – we currently do not have partners working on some of the NATO and Pact countries (Denmark, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, France, UK, among others). If you’re on a mod team with a record of producing quality addons, feel free to PM me or post at the Germany ’85 website and we can talk. Some early WIPs: Hires Hires Hires

    What made OPF better?

I missed the sense of wonder you got with OFP. It was the first game I'd ever played that gave you freedom of action in an FPS. The graphics were ok in 2001, and only got worse from there, but it really didn't matter. OFP was never about graphics - it was all about game play and moddability. I sorely miss Tonal, the Czech mod, the BW mod, and all the other great mods made for OFP. They're all totally missing from Arma. The mistake with Arma, I think, was that BIS got everything backwards. They concentrated on graphics and not on game play. Yeah, in many respects Arma was just a prettier version of OFP and otherwise identical, but by the time Arma came out, we'd all been playing OFP for nearly six years. The graphics had evolved, but not the game play. I think we were all looking, and hoping, for something new, some kind of improvement. Even some of the most glaring omissions and errors in OFP that we'd been able to dismiss were reproduced in Arma. We still have a crappy vehicle simulation in Arma. We still have a weak infantry damage simulation, same awful inventory system, and still eerily quiet battlefields in Arma. So many other things. None of it was improved upon. The graphics were a nice update, but we can only play what is basically the same game we bought in 2001 for so long before it gets stale. Arma was stale before it was even released. I only hard Arma installed for about a month. I gave it a chance. I went back to OFP. I'm hoping with Arma2, BIS is far more concerned with game play than they are with graphics. From what I've seen of Arma2, there is something to look forward to. I hope they fix the vehicle simulation (which is really barely better than BF2 right now). I hope they make the game play and missions/campaign more compelling. I'll admit, however, that as of right now OFP2 is looking far better to me than Arma2. Hell, even Far Cry 2 has more appeal to me right now. I really miss being a BIS fanboy, and I miss a lot of the community we used to have. I hope Arma2 blows me away, but I won't be holding my breath.

    Bushfires Mod

The Bushfires mod will hopefully, eventually cover several African conflicts from modern history. Our initial focus is on the creation of a generic African OPFOR inspired by and designed to compliment and expand upon Ballistic Addon Studio's Tonal/Tango OPFOR. Almost in concurrent development is a portrayal of South Africa's various wars with it's neighbors. We currently have several high quality models for South African vehicles and most everything else is available in the community - and we hope to obtain permission to use them. We'd eventually like to expand to cover the Rhodesian War, the Biafra War, the Chad-Libya conflict, and Sudan. Plus, country-specific OpFor packs are in the works. Africa is a continent of extreme diversity, confusing politics and widespread violence. We hope through our mod that some understanding of the who, what, when, where and why of modern African history will be obtained. Our scenarios will be based upon historical battles or fictionalized "what if" scenarios. Multiplayer missions will be co-op in nature, with some adversarial missions possible. There is absolutely no timeline in place. We are looking for anyone who would like to join as a modeller or texturer - even if you can just contribute a small amount of time. The more people we get working, the faster we can spit stuff out. Buffel APC plus '80s style SADF soldiers. Ratel-20 (click me) (Olifant Mk1 tank in development, base model courtesy of T-Animal and the Lost Brothers mod) G-5 155mm howitzer. Will be CoC UA compatible.

    Arma Navy

At the risk of using too much common sense, how about before somebody makes all this crap that we can't use for anything more than cutscenes (like SSBNs, SSNs, Aegis cruisers, etc) maybe everyone could benefit from the small stuff - fishing trawlers, tramp steamers, small tankers, small container ships, etc. that you'd actually see on a place like Sahrani? Otherwise if you REALLY want combat ships, I'd think frigates, corvettes and amphibs would be best suited and most widely used in Arma. Take a clue from the Falklands team. They know what they're doing.

    The Average American?

I agree. Travel two hours in almost any direction from any place in Europe and you're likely to encounter a totally different culture, if not an entirely different country. Thats a big plus. In the US, we have own own small microcosms too, the regional variations between fellow Americans. New Orleans is very different from New York, California is very different from Georgia, Seattle is very different from Miami. Luckily we all speak the same language, more or less. In both of our cases, Europe and America, we run the risk of cultural homogenization. As the differences between the North and South blur, or the differences between Western Europe and Eastern, we are running the risk of becoming too similar. For example, I can go to any place in the country and find exactly the same stores and exactly the same restaurants there that I'd find at home. Last time I was in Mississippi, I spent an hour trying to find a locally owned restaurant - in the end, I gave up at ate at a chain restaurant because that's all there was. As the world becomes a smaller place, I think it's also slowly becoming a less interesting place. Some day soon, aside from the climate and terrain, going to Denmark won't be much different from going to Romania. Or visiting France won't be much different from Poland. You'll have the same chain hotels, same chain restaurants and same chain retail outlets. Just like America.
