  1. This is odd coming from a Developer that is supposedly looking into making the game run on Linux distros. But, sad if it's true I suppose. If it is iDS has proven to me once and for all that they are no longer relevant to the PC as a gaming platform - Something that feels odd to write about such a venerable company, but it might be more true than I'd like it to be.

Is ARMA 2 better than OFP?

ARMA 2 is my clear preference - Though still it is clear to me that the concept of ARMA 2 and indeed, ARMA 2 as a game hasn't developed as much as one would have hoped for. Still, it is a stellar game, brought to us by one of the most, if not the most dedicated team of developers out there.

Which Internet Browser Do You Use?

Thanks for that shortcut, a bit of a finger twister though if you want to use it to switch to say tab number four or god forbid five ;) Also, regarding AdBlock, I thought I would miss that plugin when I migrated from FF to Chrome, even thought it would bring me back to FF - Turns out that I don't miss it at all, advertisments don't seem as bothersome anymore, oddly enough. I do however miss NoScript and FireFTP (and it's many brothers and sisters), a browser integrated FTP was just so convenient - Even if they might not be as secure or as feature rich as the external client I now use.

Left 4 Dead 2 demo out for pre-orderers!

Never played the original L4D for more than two hours - Tried the demo of this one and I must say I rather enjoy it, I only had one person I knew in the group(s) I played the demo through with and that made the whole experience much more fun. I did find that I lost connection alot, felt like I was on XBOX LIVE with all the disconnects.

No dedicated server on MW2 as well...

I bought COD4 second hand for my 360 to get some singleplayer kicks - And I must admit I was looking forward to playing MW:2 on the PC but it seems IW won't be getting any of my money. Which in the end, doesn't matter to them - Come the next installment of the franchise there might not even be a version released for the PC.
  6. Been running platoon sized action on this island for a few days now together with P'85... Absolutley amazing - Had various spots on the island covered by one squad each as a company of OPFOR made it's onslaught, with poor me as platoon commander making runs imbetween BLUEFOR strongpoints. This with everything maxed out and view distance at 4000, it's going to be hard going back to Chernarus I tell you.
  7. Water based marking chalk in a spray cans can do that job pretty neatly - Gives a faded/dusted look to clothes if applied correctly, or incorrectly. I know this too well since I had the delightful job of painting footy pitches this summer. Then again, in a place like Afghanistan... I bet you won't need to make things look dusty or faded - They'll get that way on their own fairly quickly.

Lisbon Treaty II. Ireland votes Yes?!!?

Then the BBC should probably correct their numbers. Because it would seem that, according to them, Germany is the largest net contributor - Partly, but not only due to the rebate that was established for the UK in 1984, which as the BBC site states, was not the brightest of time periods for British economy.
  9. The left nipple on your Venus De Milo is way too perky - The average temperature in greece was about 26 degrees celcius at the time the statue was finished, far from enough to fully erect a nipple.

    Dragon Rising has been released

Yeah - I have never driven a tank, but I've seen Leopard 2A2's drive and they do indeed stop pretty instantly. I am not sure if the same would apply to wheeled vehicles like the LAV-25, but I am quite certain they have some nifty break and suspension systems that would allow them to crashstop pretty well.
  11. This will go great with P'85 and/or CWC rearmed.

    OA - Campaign Suggestions

Generation Kill revolves around the 1st Reconnaissance Batallion of the USMC - Not Force Recon. As far as I know, the recon batallions operate in far larger numbers and closer to the main ground forces than Force Recon would. Though the recon batallions do have deep reconnaissance platoons that carry out some of the same type missions that Force Recon would be carrying out if they hadn't been thrown in under the MARSOC umbrella. I doubt one would see any size detachment of Force Recon carrying out the same sort of missions that Evan Wright was around to chronicle for Generation Kill - And I further doubt that a journalist would be able to imbed with a Force Recon detachment.
  13. Great island my friend - It really does capture the feel of Scandinavia/Northern Europe.
  14. I don't know if any flareguns or even flares for grenade launchers are on the units yet or in the pack at all - But personally, I'd love to see them in the P'85 units. Is there any chance of that happening, Vilas?

    OA - Campaign Suggestions

I think that the "no teammates killed" thing might be easier to alleviate in a campaign that involves more than just a small team of special forces soldiers - In OA it will be possible to create strong and important characters that recur through the campaign with the help of other squads/platoons figuring in the main characters' life.
  16. I just downloaded the P'85 mod... All I have to say is: wow. Great job Vilas! Such a wealth of units and vehicles. Thumbs up all the way!

Which Internet Browser Do You Use?

I too have submitted to our new internet overlords henceforth only known as Google. In other words, I use Chrome - It's a slick, speedy browser with a very unobtrusive user interface that is in my mind perfect for browsing sites like flickr and Pbase. But I have to agree with MehMan, certain sites just won't load under Chrome (whilst they load flawlessly in Firefox), this is especially common with download links - But still, it doesn't happen often enough (not even one out of a hundred sites) to make me turn back to Firefox, a browser which to me now feels similar to how IE felt after a few weeks of using Firefox.

    Dragon Rising has been released

I am looking for some decent fun on my XBOX 360 until the gaming month from heaven (november '09) starts off - I am thinking DR might be just that, decent, semi-mindless fun for a few weeks. But I never thought it would be a game similar to OFP or ARMA2, a game playable for years on end.
  19. Sorry to continue bringing this thread off-topic, but for the original Operation Flashpoint I have a vague memory of step-by-step introductions to simple mission making being included on the CD. This is something that I think would be very welcome to many who are new to the community. Failing that, Mr. Jan Prazak could surely make some videos going through the basics of mission editing step-by-step, with a link to those videos included in the manual for OA and an eventual "gold edition" of ARMA 2. The community is a great resource for tutorials, but to me, it would seem that appropriate to include a very basic guide, or in the least, information on where to find such a guide to the in-game editor with future releases.
  20. Pufu, how much work would it be to convert that sweet looking Kiowa of yours into the helicopter it is based on, the Bell 206 JetRanger? I hope atleast that if it's not work that you want to do, or work that you don't have the time to do that you'll consider letting someone else do that very conversion, damn fine modelling too!

Lisbon Treaty II. Ireland votes Yes?!!?

Alot of countries (Sweden included) has volontary chemical castration as a part of treatment received within forensic psychiatry - The proposal that has been passed in the Polish sejmen revolves around forced chemical castration being an option of punishment for all pedophiles and practicioners of incest. But as said, the finer points of castration and laws revolving around it are best reserved for other topics. As are my views on the matter. My post was just a reply to Vilas' post. Rather snidely and sarcastically trying to make the point that the EU are not in any way involved in the sad state of the Polish judicial system or lawmaking, nor the fact that voters attendance is so low. Surely, it may be involved in letting such undemocratic and corrupt tendencies to contiue to flourish, but much to the joy of everyone, even with the Lisbon treaty signed those aren't matters for the EU to meddle in. As odd as it sounds considering their creepy fetish of making sure that bananas and various other fruits meet a certain standard.

You are about to get chemical castration of sex offenders instead though - You win some, you lose some.

    Delta force game series

I vividly remember Delta Force one - I was really young when I played it and me and my father used to play co-op of sorts, he took care of the keyboard and I the mouse, makes no sense really but it a great memory of my late childhood.

Lisbon Treaty II. Ireland votes Yes?!!?

I don't see how the European Union could in any shape or form be described as an "empire building project" - To me it seems pretty clear that it is a vehicle to strengthen Europe as a whole, tapping into the power that a well organized and orchestrated cooperation between nations has to offer. Not only for the benefit of European countries, but as I see it for the benefit of the world at large. Economical cooperation is a thing the world is in dire need of, especially our part of the world - A part of the world with a wealth of resources and an even greater wealth of technology and education at it's disposal, but a part that is (thankfully) divided over several nations, with different laws, ideas and regulations on how to conduct trade, exchange of knowledge and many other things that are necessary for a strong economy, and a strong society. In my mind, and in my view, the EU is trying, and in some cases succeeding quite well in abridging those gaps - Making cooperation easier for the benefit of the individual member states, and in the end, for the benefit of European influence upon the rest of the world. As for the military aspects of the EU, I certainly welcome what is about to take place - Atleast as far as the European Union Battlegroups, I hope that they will entail that in the future, European nations involved in peacekeeping and or other mission types won't be as liable to wind up under NATO command or mandate. Operation Artemis for one proves (to me) that the battlegroups are a sound concept, a concept that will be much needed in the future.
  25. What I would like to see more of in addons like these are fictional weapons - Weapons with stories and timelines proprietary to the fictional nation depicted, weapons tailored to the circumstances of that army, just as Vilas' mentions above. It doesn't mean that new weapon models are needed, just take an AKM or FAL model and invent something out of it, like it was produced for the newly established Nogovan democracy after it's separation with the Soviet Union and the subsequent halt put to arms imports from the big neighbour in the east - Basically inventing your own AKM/FAL/whatever-copies. Heck, seeing the Nogovan army wielding a domestically produced copy of the Sten gun, KSP-45 or MAT-49 (modified to use eastern block pistol cartridges or some such) would be great, original and fun to see, and in my mind far from irrational. It makes sense for an ex-soviet nation as small as Nogova to try and make itself independent of imports from a possible enemy.
