Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced
ebud replied to imported_bör's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Nice how he skirted the mod community question by directing the answer to the in-game mission editor I'd bet about anything that there will be 0 mod support as once it's built they will start piling on the expansions if it sells ok. If it doesn't sell like crazy it'll get dropped in a heartbeat. Just a guess. -
I've been exporting all the time to get the uvmaps saved and into photoshop. Taking a screenshot of the uv editing window isn't the best solution

I've been so busy editing units I haven't even looked at the islands or missions. What's the progress on weapons? vehicles? aircraft? I know what's left to do with the units, but have no clue about anything else since I stopped using skype so much since it was a major distraction for me.

Use this to get your first lod. 3D Ripper DX After that your kinda screwed. I did it to rip and import a ton of Graw2 weapons so I know it can be done.

Yeah I already moved a couple to their rightful spot so I could try them out. Not sure if the new O2 release has this working or not, but I tried to copy and past the arma soldier model into one of these mlods into a new lod. I then used the "copy weights" function and it worked, but not the best, but after playing with it I know what to do to fix it. Thanks again

Look at the Tutorials in the wiki and see who's been editing them. I know at least two CWR people who edit and update them. And from what I thought, CWR was started to get the old OFP setting into ARMA, not just to write tuts and test tools. Just trying to do the work on CWR is enough of a time suck, writing well written tutorials wasn't what I signed on for. You don't want to see a tut written by me.

Those models are waaaaay off center and none of the named selections are weighted Argh! haha. I was so excited about them until I saw that. Thats why your getting errors with them as well as all the main selections being unattached. But at least the attachments and gear can be used with the example model and easily re-weighted. Thanks for exporting these Synide. Maybe a few more unit models to get all the nice gear? Can't hurt to ask

31st MEU Desert / Woodland Marpat Skins
ebud replied to jdhaines's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Yeah the vests were in the sewing patterns. Those were never meant to be used "as is" only to be used as reference. Since you need to rework them anyway I guess it's no big deal now. Nice addon BTW. -
What he said...

Actually no I'm not. They may be worse than the Resistance campaign, but FFS sitting around and crying about something you haven't even seen yet is a worthless effort. I'm a positive person, I'll find redeeming value in it even if it's not as good as Resistance.

Are you taking investors on that time machine you have? You don't have a fucking clue if they will be inferior or not. Nice try asshole. Don't like it or don't think it's worth it, don't buy it. God I'm sick of negative pricks like you.

No, I'm not changing much to this at all. I have had a newish version on my hd for weeks, but since working on CWR I haven't touched it. Only when most CWR work is done will I revisit it, and that's only to finish what I started to edit on them which is making the CQB units have the protec helmet. Sorry.

No problem. I don't like being an a-hole about this, and I hate it that Kenbow is the one losing out by this. The old expression my buddies use with their wives, "It's easier to get forgiveness than permission" doesn't cut it I'm afraid. Sorry Kenbow, I know this wasn't your fault.
-
I found out about these because I got a message from Kenbow to take a look at them. I unpacked the addon and looked at the texture files and the vest textures are the ones I made. I know them inside and out as I spent a damn long time piecing them together to fit the uvmaping for the vests. I can spot my work very easily. vest comparison image

Yeah, those are mine Don't remember being asked. Edit: And since I wasn't asked, please remove them. I know it's easier to get forgiveness than permission, but I've had this happen one to many times.
-
Yeah, I have a new version with the new helmets from 1.08, but no time to finish and release them
-
Since people are pimping their work, I guess I will too Des, woodland, CQB and Civi SF's I still use them all the time.

I think the "need" for interiors is what killed the majority of unfinished armor in OFP. They take forever to do well and it's hard to find good, complete reference material for some vehicles. The only time I ever looked at a tank interior was to see how it was made, usually kinda poorly. APC you pretty much have to have, but for tanks I think if you can do a good accurate one fine, if not the optic solution is a great feature since 99% of the time your looking out the scope or viewports anyway.

I've only dabbled with Max, but as a layperson I wouldn't call it intuitive. I consider something to be intuitive if I can jump in and figure it out on my own without having to RTFM. I'll never understand why in most 3d apps I can't just copy/cut and paste and have it NAMED copy, paste, etc instead of whatever they felt like naming it. I tried LW and I thought it was the easiest to just jump and and start editing since the naming conventions were all intuitive. Copy, paste, cut, etc. Simple. Max??? I get lost looking at the menus.

Yeah, those were the days, haha. But none of this or anything I've ranted about has anything really to do with the expansion Back to that... heh. Now that the screenshots of the units went over like a lead balloon, hopefully whomever is working on them realize they really need to push them beyond just repurposed exisitng content. I was just looking at a few other games this a.m. and visually I was pretty impressed. The units I thought looked pretty cool, and I think that is what is missing. You can make units realistic, but if they also look boring, then it won't be much fun. The default ARMA units are pretty well done, but just don't have that "wow" factor and the new units really need to get grittier and more realistic, but thats just my personal opinion.
-
Not really when compared to ARMA content, and most of the new TOnal content was provided by others who are much better than I am, but overall it wasn't quite up to the quality that ARMA is VISUALLY. I just got a PM from someone who pointed out to me that my condescending attitude is probably out of line. True, true. But my opinion is based on visual content only as thats the only reference I have. I cannot grasp how hard scripting is. Configing yes, coding no. I'll just assume the scripting will continue to raise the bar as code is code. If it works it works. Visual content can always be debated. When I said most ARMA addons will be crap, I meant it, but to be fair I should have said they will not visually attain the standard set by the core content. I'm just assuming that with the amount of work needed for the new way of addon making, not many will be better than the core content. I'm sure some will be better, but most will fall short. I sorry if I offended anyone personally by that comment. I only specified BAS content as that was what was brought up and I worked on a lot of it visually and I know how it stacks up.

Yeah, you do have more faith than I do I too look forward to the one good addon out of however many get pumped out and hope I like it. Addon teams like CSLA, BWMod, FDF and Frenchpoint are ones that come to mind when I think of good quality addons that will probably be made the right way. BWMod especially had some amazingly well made content. Most of their vehicles could get put in right away as they were made correctly to begin with. I can't do much more than reskinning, but from just reskinning I can see how friggin hard it will be to make addons in the future. I may end up finally becoming just a player finally now that the amount of talent and work it will take to make addons has surpassed my time and skill And Skaven, your right the tools will probably make it easier, but as you've already proven, you can work with hi poly models, normal maps, etc and get them working already without the tools. It's really only islands that can't be done right away. Edit : Crap I should have put these in one post.
