[OPEN BETA] [SP] bCombat infantry AI Mod

fabrizio, I just wonder if you are going to eventually submit bCombat to MANW contest. If yes, count on my vote and support. -
[OPEN BETA] [SP] bCombat infantry AI Mod

So, how would it be different from HETMAN? -
Isn't the explicit coordinate given by a player which is choosing the exact position on the map? Or are you talking about the logic that AI use when choosing a best path to a given location?

Ryd, how is the ambient combat working in practice? Is there some logic where the clashes occurs? Is there any of the HETMAN parts? Or is it just completely random, not really considerate spawning of enemies against another?
-
In my opinion, challenge based on self-discipline does not work well. It misses that feeling of "circumstances you cannot control". It feels forced and not believable. It feels like made-up rules. I don't enjoy that. Anyway, I don't want to go offtopic here, so... :-)

Interesting. Do you think it would be possible and functional to "pack" it under a single "Retreat move" command and make an addon from it? Do you think it would work?

It is not really derailing because we are searching for solution (or workaround) for the AI retreating (and obeying "move" - and other - orders). If there is a mod that would do at least what "my" workaround suggested things would be more playable. I would, of course, prefer BIS to do it properly...

Ryd! You are so kind, man! Thank you for this, really. You don't have to make GUI for that. Just put it in some kind of config file so that I can set the timeout and the true/false stuff. Thank you very much! You rock. EDIT: Oh, and of course, take your time. I will respectfully wait as long as needed. No problem at all. EDIT2: But I will, of course, be satisfied with auto-saves always on if it is a problem for you to put it in the config or something! No problem for me :-)

Fabrizio, I tried with bCombat to retreat my group while under fire and it did not work. I suppose that is because of all the suppressive fire mechanics in your mod, that prevents units to move, right?

I know what I will do. I will set my countdown-stopwatch to 20 minutes and will save only when it rings... :-/ but...yeah, that will do... :-D
-
I must admit that I don't understand why is it a problem, because I am not a programmer and dunno how it works in Arma. But I definitely believe you in this one. If you say it would not be good for whatever reason, then fair enough. I understand that. Thanks for the great mission anyway!

I would prefer the double tap option. One for showing the HUD and one for the actual change of fire-mode. ---------- Post added at 14:59 ---------- Previous post was at 14:57 ---------- I completely agree with your points. Very well written.

Very well said. -
Too bad, I guess :-( Thanks for the answer anyway.

Well, I would rather have the auto-save too. I guess it is strongly dependable on a gameplay style. You see, I spend a lot of time in the "wilderness" exploring areas and loosing an hour worth of gameplay is a bit too much for me. Ryd, would the automatic saving be possible? I would love it.
-
Yes, this sucks.
-
Disastrous save point is a valid thought, Doc. It could be solved by separate saves for checkpoints (churches, chapels) and timed auto-save. I don't know if that is possible to achieve.
-
Cool. Btw I don't want you to stop whining. I don't think anyone is whining here, so all cool. A mod based on the workaround would be nice anyway.

Ryd, would it be possible to save a game automatically every 20 minutes or so? I need to save a game regularly but I need to feel a challenge that I might lose 20 minutes of progress if not careful. Save-game timing settings would be great too. Amazing mission btw.
-
The point of the workaround suggested was that somebody would mod it in such way that it would be a custom-single click command similar to classsic "move" command. All the work would be made automatically. And yes, I was also surprised by the behaviour of the "hold fire" command. Dunno if I like it or not though. I would prefer two types of the "hold fire" command.

Man, it would be cool if you read all the stuff I have written. You may find out that we are not too far from each other. Also, I am not OK with vanilla AI at all. I think it sucks quite heavily. I just try to balance your (plural) radical and generalising opinions. Thanks. Anyway, I suggested a workaround that could work until BIS does something themselves. You can read it if you want... Also, for sake of efficiency, I will continue to behave as if no novel-strategies-elitist presumption was written. Also, I didn't say that AI is my whole motivation. I said it is my main motivation. I am also a normal gamer. ---------- Post added at 22:13 ---------- Previous post was at 22:01 ---------- Yes, if you separate them and give each soldiers his own "move" command and "hold fire" on top of it, everyone, apart from machinegunners, would move quite rapidly. You can try that. More in my workaround suggestion.

I have noticed that AAF planes are not able to land safely on the main Altis airport. They will descent too fast before the runway and crash. It is the same with the auto-pilot action while a player is controlling the plane.

I am getting frequent CTDs with the latest DEV branch. Dunno what is causing it but it is frequent but random looking. ---------- Post added at 21:04 ---------- Previous post was at 20:10 ---------- OK, I have found out that most reliably you can CTD when alt-tabbing from the game and alt-tabbing back. 1) play the game 2) ESC to the menu 3) alt-tab 4) alt-tab back 5) press "continue" in the menu 6) it should freeze and crash after pressing ESC
