Yes, but would they make those LODs for small proxy parts like scopes if the weapons don't even have proper penetration materials on them? I would be surprised. But having scopes you can shoot into is technically possible. I don't know of the LODs have the granularity needed for multiple lenses or something.

The best part about the example models is that they have LODs, hiddenselections and all kinds of things included, so you can learn how things work. Most of the work in modding is not the original model, but making it work with the game. -

Think of it more of a technical limitation than a bug. I don't know if BI intends to make terrain cast shadows. To me, it seems like a funny thing to sink CPU/GPU cycles into given that arma will already eat almost any machine you put up against it. Shadows are not 'cheap' things to draw.

No, because the user doesn't have the right to give away what they don't own in the first place. This occasion is provided for in the SWS stipulations you must acknowledge. The person uploading stuff 'in good faith' fails a, b, and c. Or b and c if a is specifically referring to someone who is legally bondable, and not referring to the authority over the copyrighted work.

I might remind you that this topic is on SSD life vs. Arma's aggressive streaming technology. If this topic continues to devolve into yet another optimization complaint thread, people may find that they are no longer able to post in this topic or may get warnings or infractions for thread derailing. -
One of the stipulations that Valve is making is you must first have the rights to give away, and the ability to legally give them away. For instance, I think what it's saying is you must be bondable, and you must own the property you're uploading. I would imagine that they retain the right to ban accounts that are violating their legal agreements, but when people can have an unlimited number of accounts that's hardly a problem for anyone. The only ones it would punish would be the people who are either foolish enough to knowingly violate the EULA with an account full of games they paid for or hapless people who were ignorant of the whole thing and whose good intentions were misguided because no one reads EULAs.

Of course I have a valid point. All of my points are valid ;) In seriousness though, I'm not sure what you mean by no when you say yes and no. I'll hazard that you're saying that the no is that it's not the loss of control that you're not down with but what Valve can do as a result of it. What I'm saying is that Valve is only able to do that because of the transfer of control that they demand. The potential for them to do anything is effectively nil but for your agreement to the SWS TOS. If that didn't exist, there would be no cause for concern. I guess in effect they are the same thing, but my point was that the most basic level of the problem is what you can't prevent, not what they may or may not do.

Pragmatically the difference is that weapons with a bipod are more stable when firing prone. I think the MXM is also chambered for a different intermediate round: 7.62x45mm. This is probably a reference to a round developed by Czechoslovakia and in service from 1952 to 1957.

Hmmm.. I have confirm that W0lle must have messed something up. I tried to contact him, but I guess he's still out. He's not on Skype and not replying to emails. I unfortunately don't have access to the ftp and Tom isn't anywhere to be found either. I'll continue to try to reach him. I don't think that the issue is based on any fear of what Valve might do, but what addon makers can no longer do after they sign such an agreement. Insomuch as addon makers have control over what they create now, after they sign the agreement, they no longer have any right to control those files. So say someone downloads you made, your addon, makes a cheap reskin, and then redistributes it. If you don't own the IP you have no right to ask him to stop as you have no claim to control over those files. It is not your property anymore. Also it's somewhat confusing. Consider what happens when you upload some files to armaholic and the same files to SWS. So, you simultaneously have an enforceable license on your own work and you don't.

I would actually be quite surprised if the scopes had any sort of fire geometry lod (a special lod that tells the program how the surface interacts with bullets), or geometry LOD (telling the program the extents of the object for the purposes of collision) at all, nevermind a complex shape made of several different kinds of materials.

Shadows on levels higher than normal are computed on the GPU. Lower than that, they are computed on the CPU. Lagging high shadows would indicate that your GPU is the bottleneck here. You might be able to speed it up by decreasing texture, object, or terrain detail, and by turning down post processing and HDR quality.

The pilot is always the commander unless you do the following: create a player character create another character to be your pilot link the two characters by using the group tag and dragging from the pilot character to the player character. The player character should be in command now. Now place an empty hind from the 'empty' side. now you can get in the empty hind and order your pilot into the pilot seat, or... You can name your hind something in the editor... perhaps name it HIND. Here's the problem, define worse. Or people who are genuinely not interested in helicopters. There are a few of them out there, for sure. Every iteration of OFP to Arma has had improvements in its helicopter flight. The fact that they're playing with the idea of making the rotorlib flight model the default model for helicopter flight in Arma 3, in spite of the difficulty they've been having with it, totally invalidates your argument.
