Here is a sequel to the original Addon Research Topic. This thread should serve as a place to share resources and resource requests. Do you need some references for the cockpit of some obscure vehicle? Did you find an excellent resource for different kinds of hand grenades? Post them here! I updated the Biki Reference Sites Page with all of the URLs to reference sites that were hot linked to in the entire ArmA Addon Research Topic with the help of Placebo. For all of the new ones I added, I noted the language of the page if it was not English or if there was no English version. I also went through each link and marked the broken ones with ''defunct?''. Thanks to Ironsight for starting the original topic. Also, there is a question about how forum-centric vs. wiki-centric this function is best served. Asking and answering questions is obviously best served by the forum, but storing and accessing information is best done by the wiki. Going through each URL on a forum and adding to the biki is not fun for anyone, least of all me :p. Perhaps it would be best to add general resource links to the biki as well, but keep specific files like individual photos on the forum.

I wrote a bit about painting diffuse maps by hand and the stuff I found to be important on my last project, and put it into a tut with pics. Please comment. I've already had a friend comment that the pictures are hard to make out. They look fine on my screen, but let me know if you are having trouble, too. I hope you find it helpful!

I'm interested on getting more complete information on how cfRecoils works. The biki is woefully under informed. I will update it with my findings here. However, I can not find any information on what each of the 5 sets in the array represent. For pistols, there are 4 sets, and for launchers, 3. Does anyone have any information on this?

No, it uses shockwave focusing to form a jet of molten copper all in one direction. The explosion itself goes in all directions. "Some guy on a forum" is at best a case study conducted by a layman which doesn't account for factors he is not aware of. I would imagine that this specific situation is not representative of most situations where a someone has a shaped charge detonate near them.

A few things: You are not involved in a professional relationship with the modder. There are no mod customers here. If you're so used to being treated like dirt by your dysfunctional customers, it would stand to reason that you'd be more inclined to treat people with respect in your spare time, not less. So let's pretend for a minute that everyone here is a human being. If you have a suggestion to make, trying phrasing it as if the modder doesn't owe you a god damn thing.

The problem is that you did not express what you wanted to see, you expressed what you thought tpw was wasting his time on. So, let's not kid ourselves and pretend like you were merely expressing your opinion, or that all opinions are valid. Modders are not here to make do what you or anyone else wants. They are here to be creative and to do things they are interested in. If you want to get involved in their projects by making suggestions, the least anyone can ask is that you show some manners.

Here is how damage is done to a hitpoint, at least in theory. A bullet is shot by a unit and impacts the firegeolod. There is a check to see if the bullet hits near any hitpoints on the hitpoints LOD. Hitpoints must have named selections that correspond to a config entry, so it checks the properties of the named selection via its name. Based on the data in the hitpoints class that correspond to the name of its named selection, damage is done to both the damage capacity of the hitpoint (as defined in the config), and the total damage of the vehicle. Hitpoints are not like the number of points you have to decrease by hitting, like in Dungeons and Dragons maybe. They are physical points you have to hit (near) in order to damage a thing on a vehicle. Hitpoints themselves have their own damage capacity and other properties.

Lying about it is fraud. There is no difference between saying you need x money for y thing, regardless of what the reason, because that need is unverifiable. If mod maker says he needs money for a new hard drive, but spends it on hookers and blow, you will have no way of knowing as long as he keeps making addons. But, if you are lumping Fraud in with saying you need money for something in order to continue, then you are denying vilas his donations, since this is exactly what he did. I don't think that either of us were talking about 'just having a donation button lying around' at any point in this conversation. Why didn't you address every little last speck of my last message? Because you didn't care about it or didn't want to waste your time on it? I understand. That's why I didn't answer this question as well. If you recall, in my very first first post on the subject, when everyone still remembered that we were talking about, I used the word 'crowd funding'. We were talking about the use of the word extortion to describe the situation where a mod maker says, "I need money to continue". Not, "I need money to continue" then run off without doing anything, or just letting a donate button sit there for people to trip over. At any rate, I can tell I have said everything I want to say on this topic because I've been repeating myself. And what I'm saying is it doesn't matter what you put behind it, words mean what they mean. Mod makers can already ask for donations, seemingly, so the framework is already in place for any modder to claim that their videocard blew up therefore they need money, or their car broke down so they need a new car so they can get home from work earlier so they can mod more or whatever the story is.

What I was saying is you can't mean extortion yet not mean extortion at the same time. Either extortion is a good description of the idea or it's not. In this case, it is not. What you meant to do was to overdramatize the issue with rhetoric, and I get that. That can even be a good part of a reductio ad absurdum if correctly applied. In this case, it was not correctly applied, and I don't think we need any more barriers to understanding this hypothetical situation in the first place. Running around going, "asking for more donations in order to move forward is like extortion" is appealing because it is a shortcut to thinking. If memory serves me correctly, Vilas has already used these 'tactics'. He asked for donations to cover the cost of a computer so he could continue modding for the community. Vilas is a lot of things, but he's not an extortionist, and to equate him to an extortionist is a slap in the face.

That's not extortion. That's crowd funding. It's saying, "give us some money, and we might give you something in return", which is sort of the opposite of donations which is kind of like, "we will give you something and we hope you will give us some money in return"... it's kind of like gambling. Even direct sales would be preferable, since there is a one to one exchange of product and money. Since it's different, hopefully it will be disallowed if this thing goes through. In order to disallow shenanigans this whole thing would have to be very tightly controlled. All in all it would be up to the consumer to decide what's good and what's bad, and I'm not very certain that the consumer is a very good person to rely on for that sort of thing.
