http://www.dsogaming.com/news/amds-mantle-does-not-require-gpus-with-gcn-architecture/ According to one report, AMD has 36% of the market, not really all that small. And I assume Nvidia can choose to support Mantle, if they want. AMD = Open source Nvidia = Closed source.

Probably need the breadboard too (don't ask me, I don't understand anything =)

I'll have to look into this, looks really good. Thanks for the info. I have two questions: How are you powering the hardware? Is it wireless?
-
That is nice, have to try it out but would be even nicer if it was just 1 command =). Half the squad flank left, other half flank right, all taking cover -> Call it 'Disperse'.
-
Like a formation where everyone isn't 5 metres from each other and get taken out by a single grenade... 'Disperse'-formation, spread out within 100 metres. And taking cover if there is any.

Just wondering why you are building anything when a webcam works. I use webcam-headtracking all the time in Euro Truck Sim 2.

Explosions near fire on Dedicated servers causing 1-2 FPS/ crash
mamasan8 replied to marksinnerdemon's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
I get this issue on normal MP servers running Invade & Annex. Last time it happened, I had zero FPS. No movement whatsoever. I blew up my car I was driving that got damaged with grenades. Quit the game shortly after. -
New update released on Steam now. I'm a bit excited, hopefully MP is smoother and HDAO is beautiful(er).

How to make AI attack the target? Select all or relevant AI, scroll with mousewheel, mouseover the target and press Spacebar. Or the long route, select AI, press 2 (for target) then find the target in the list and press corresponding number. About that bug described in the feedback tracker. I don't know if this is related. In MP, when I bring 4 AI with me (some coop servers allow us to recruit AI), at least one of them will start to run in the opposite direction after either a parachute jump or teleport. Nothing will help. Return to formation does nothing, telling them to attack target, tried different combat modes as well (7-1, 7-2, 7-3). They just keep running. The first thing I usually do when commanding AI is to press 3-5, engage at will. Next is combat mode (combat or stealth)

It doesn't seem like the other 3 cores are used for anything much, maybe network traffic. At 233 AIs the server just buckles under. So what is the server calculating? Collision detection and physics (shooting AI) AI pathing Network traffic (if any in this case) Probably other stuff too No matter the load, all the computations are done on 1 core. He has a quadcore with, I assume, hyperthreading enabled so he has 8 logical cores. Server running single core only...when was that in anyway recommended last? 70s?

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?

I love the effects. That is with the R2 release, haven't installed R3 yet. Fireworks show starts 2 min 30 secs into the clip. Just so beautiful.

LowFlyZone, I would suggest a Visual distance of 3km max and object distance of 1.5km. Unless you fly something. Then your figures are pretty much spot on. Also, VSYNC on introduces stutter and lower FPS for me. Might want to check that out if it applies to you.

Have you tried 'verify integrity of game cache'? Right-click arma 3 in Steam, click Properties and check under Local files. You might also want to re-install CBA.

Poor Frame Rates no matter the setting on my system
mamasan8 replied to Polymath820's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
HT benchmarks http://www.overclock.net/t/671977/hyperthreading-in-games Conclusion: Minimal difference but HT turned on adds another 5-15 C of CPU temp. Also this from Arma 2 version of Dayz: "PROBLEM: Really low FPS. (i7-processor) SOLUTION: Disable Hyperthreading. WHY: Because." Editor: game begins to lag horribly, mouse disappears, then PC locks up when closing.
mamasan8 replied to cobalt red's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
While you are in the editor, doesn't the client render the gameworld simultaneously? I'm wondering if it's a heat issue? You could use MSI Afterburner to check system usage etc. Couple it with HWmonitor and you can monitor just about every component you have. In MSI AB, go to settings and On-Screen Display (OSD). Insert some shortcut to toggle it (Shift-F1 for example). Then in HWMonitor, click on 'configure sensors', go to OSD, click on whatever you want to monitor and put a checkmark on 'show value in OSD' and 'show label' (optional really). DO NOT PRESS 'Save & quit', press 'Minimize all' after you are done with HWMonitor. Quitting hwmonitor means you wont be able to monitor whatever you ticked. Ingame just press Shift-F1 and you should see all the goodies. With HWMonitor you can also create logs. -
Heres the explanation http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?152866-General-Discussion-%28dev-branch%29&p=2604946&viewfull=1#post2604946 AI uses more CPU now. What I noticed so far. I just came from a server running 8-9 FPS but my client was still rendering at 30+ FPS so it seems server FPS doesn't dictate client FPS anymore. In last version I would have been getting 20 fps max.

Poor Frame Rates no matter the setting on my system
mamasan8 replied to Polymath820's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Northbridge speed is nowadays 2ghz or higher. FSB is just a base number that everything else in the system is multiplied with. 10x for NB, 13x for HT link, multiplier for CPU (mine is 20 since I have 4 ghz CPU), 8x for my RAM. Those are defaults on my system. Of course I can tinker with them when I overclock but benchmarks show that HT link speed has minimal effect and upping NB speed brings with it system instability quite fast. So best bet is to stick close to default values on those two. Everytime you increase something, you have to increase voltage which brings extra heat which leads to instability at a certain point. I'm running 215 FSB now (200 is default) but I don't see a huge gain. Actually I don't see a gain at all in Arma 3, not after yesterdays patch at least. 3Dmark gives me a few hundred extra points but that benchmark reacts much more to overclocked GPU. -
Stutter regardless of fps (worse with new patch)
mamasan8 replied to Jedo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Have you tried turning off vsync? That causes stutter for me in every game I turned it on in. Make sure its off in catalyst panel/nvidias control panel as well (application decides or similar setting). Its called vertical refresh in Catalyst. -

Constant frame drops. Maximum frequency drops the problem? Help?
mamasan8 replied to BillMurrayEG's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Control Panel->Power Options, click to show 'additional plans' and select 'high performance'. Go thru all the settings and make sure none are on powersaving mode or 'turn off after x amount of minutes'. -
Have you tried multiplayer? I had a rig from 2008, I got 7-10 FPS. SP works great, fluid and good FPS (think I had 30-50 FPS). MP is a totally different matter. I upgraded my computer this winter and I still rarely see anything above 30 FPS in MP. While I'm pulling 30 FPS minimum with very high/ultra settings in SP.
