I stand corrected, then, 1.05 to QG to 1.14. I used to have the German version, but bought the Atari gold version for QG.
-
I've installed 1.00, QG, and then 1.14 only with no problems.

NUDE MOD!!! j/k, don't lynch me, it's very early and I'm up feeding my daughter. Who I'd be proud to see in the military someday.

WIP: stuff you are working on!
gsleighter replied to adumb's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
@USSRsniper - I would think if you just UV mapped it from the front, that would be sufficient, as you'd really never see the back of the wheel. -
Will it be possible to execute scripts at way points or create triggers as in the 2d editor? So, for example, will I be able to run an ejection script or start units in vehicle cargo, or man static weapons?

Observations of a grunt

Maybe it's possible to force the "At Ease" stance for units armed with machine guns when standing? So that they can only aim when in a prone position. -
Hardware Issues: Tips/Tricks/Solutions
gsleighter replied to Jack-UK's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Just wanted to post that new beta drivers have been released for Nvidia cards on 9-25. I'm using a BFGtech 8800GTX 768mb, and I'm getting a substantial fps boost with the new drivers. Just wondering if anybody else has tried them yet? -
Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced
gsleighter replied to imported_bör's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Yeah, I too hope Clive's just being enthusiastic, I'd hate to see the culmination of all their research be a damage model out of Soldier of Fortune. Then again, GRID has a pretty amazing damage model, which makes me more willing to think it's just enthusiasm. -
Placing a lake above water level
gsleighter replied to Dror.N's topic in ARMA : MAP EDITING (VISITOR)
Wow, I was trying to recreate the applegate reservoir in 3de, I didn't know you could re-size the lake models. Do they lose their texture resolution when you do that? because I was using hundreds of individual tiles to try it, and eventually got frustrated and moved on to something else. -
Opfor changes behavior based on number of players?
gsleighter replied to desertjedi's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
The two settings are in one of the config files in the Arma folder, found in "My Documents." Skill effects their decision making, and precision effects their aim, so high skill and medium-low precision gives you the effect I described. Just edit the appropriate file in Notepad, and when you're done, make sure you go into the file's properties and check "read only" so the game doesn't change the settings back on you. -
Opfor changes behavior based on number of players?
gsleighter replied to desertjedi's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Try setting the enemy skill to the max, and their precision to about .4, you get heavy volume of fire, and the opfor acts more intelligently, it's what I use, and I get pretty good behavior most of the time. -
Is there a place to download the Arma models in 3ds format? I don't want to go through uninstalling O2, installing an old version, converting everything, and reinstalling the new version, if I don't have to. It would help me out a lot I think, in editing in 3d studio max if I could learn from the Arma models in that program. Or, do you have them laying around your hard drive, Scubaman, and might you be willing to email them?
-
You can use the insert key to create a vertex. Select three or four vertex points, and you can hit F6 to create a face. Using those, you can draw a model from scratch, but it takes a long time. I'm learning 3dsmax so that I can do most of the work there, and just set the model up for Arma in O2.

Cold War Rearmed Discussion
gsleighter replied to raedor's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
How do you open bin'ed configs? Is there some tool that decodes the data? I'm trying to learn the config stuff, but I'm having a hell of a time, since most things are binarized.- 1061 replies

Different seasons Differnt colors
gsleighter replied to bravo 6's topic in ARMA : CONFIGS AND SCRIPTING (addons)
I'm thinking it could not work for the terrain itself because you would need a whole new sat mask for different seasons. The only situation I can think of where that might not apply is a desert, as long as you don't have any grass. Maybe for the objects, instead of defining different textures in the map, you could define it in the object? So that Tree A picks a certain texture depending on factors like season, weather, etc... I wouldn't know how to do it myself, but I hope a little brainstorming might help you. -
Who says the NVG to light green?
gsleighter replied to Marccom's topic in ARMA : CONFIGS AND SCRIPTING (addons)
Didn't the old terminator addon for OFP just fake it by making the weapon sights view the Terminator vision? I don't know how that would work now with 3d iron sights, but it looked pretty cool in OFP, from what I remember. -
Puts all their weapons on hold. I'd rather not have my AT guys giving their positions away, anyway, they're too valuable. Unfortunately, though, taking fire will break the hold fire command off, so your squad starts firing. So it only works until you find yourself in combat.

@ second The wii mote is an IR sensor that picks up energy from the bar by your TV. So, using a wii mote to receive IR light from one or two LED's from the rifle, you could use it to aim in a game. Are you actually serious, BTW?

Almost too effectively, DesertJedi. I've had AI soldiers waste Javelins on BRDMs and BMPs when there's T72's in plain sight, and I've had them use the Javelin on a target that doesn't know about my squad yet when we could wait 30 seconds and use the squad's AT4 on it. I usually give my javelin gunners the hold fire if I have them to try and keep them from using their missiles on the wrong targets.

Hifi Sound FX V1.00 Released
gsleighter replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I absolutely hate them. The sonic crack effect hasn't liked my on board sound or my SB X-Fi, I'd just as soon not have them at all, and it seems the proper mods sonic crack removal either doesn't work with sound mods or with 1.14. Huge negative effect on the game for me; I know they're supposed to be loud, but I can't hear a passing plane, or explosions, or sometimes my own weapon over them. -
I noticed one, Artillery is spelled Atrillery in the "Atrillery support available" message. I seem to be wounding the crap out of the enemy, not really killing much anymore. This is really cool stuff, though, I'm still messing around with squad sized infantry engagements, haven't really tried throwing gunships and bombers in the mix yet, but I will tomorrow. Also, this runs SOOOO much smoother than SLX, so thanks for that!

You need the Sgt Ace everon. Check out Armaholic.com's addons section, it's there. It's got a couple of bugs, but it does nicely until we get a new Everon island. -Gabe-

EricM's Kamov KA-52 Alligator Released
gsleighter replied to a topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This thing flies like a dream, thanks! Get it up to speed, and you can execute a nice, graceful barrel roll without crashing the chopper. And, the high center of gravity makes the thing look very nice turning through the air. -
Wow, I appreciate this, but I think you should have put a Rick Roll video in the Rar file, you missed a great opportunity there. Anyway, (Sings) I wanna be an airborne ranger, I wanna live a life of danger! I'm going to go jump out of your perfectly good airplane.

Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced
gsleighter replied to imported_bör's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I still find Arma at the local Wal-Mart and Best Buy, I think Atari did alright getting the game out there. Not to mention 6 months of full-page advertising in PC Gamer. And as far as online activity, you can't compare it to something like Battlefield, where you can get the game for 10 USD. It's still got about as many online players as Crysis has, and it's got many more than UT3. If Arma was 10 dollars, you would probably see more people online for it, too.
