I can't agree more with Lightspeed: the satisfaction of playing any simulator is heavily dictacted by the ability to suspend disbelief and one the major contributing factors is the credibility of our AI opponents. I think BIS did a great job seperating skill and accuracy for the AI. Essentially this allowed us users to easily (without installing mods) to vary our AI opponents to suit our different styles of play and skills. Imagine that you're playing a mission that was designed for 24 players but there are only 4 of you. You still really like the mission so you start the mission and dial down the accuracy of your opponents. You know that their inaccuracy is unrealistic but you want enjoyment rather than realism. So BIS please bring back: a) a seperate parameter for AI skill and AI accuracy b) preferably these parameters should be applicable dynamically via an in-game menu I can't emphasis enough how important this is. Nothing ruins a gaming night more than spending an hour reaching an objective only to have the entire squad wiped out in less than a minute by a dozen, half-drunk, conscripts with rusty AKs from 500m away...

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
domokun replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I run CO on an C2D overclocked to 4GHz, with 4890 and 4GB of DDR2 RAM. As my E8400 runs off a P35 mobo, I'm stuck with DDR2. Currently DDR2 is x2-x3 more expensive than DDR3 (8GB = €100 vs €40). So I'm wondering what would be the most cost-efficient upgrade? (highest "bang for buck") a) 4x2GB of DDR2 for 12GB RAMdisk? for OA pbos? b) 64GB SSD for OS, OA + paging file? Crucial M4? c) mid-range (€200) gfx card? 6950? or 560ti? Given that I game 1920x1200 (24" TFT) and I can't afford the ubiquitous 2500k/560ti/16GB-DDR3 combo. -
COSLX - An updated version of the original SLX Mod

Welcome back Gunther. Good to hear that things are improving for you and I look forward to seeing your efforts to get COSLX compatible with 1.60 patch. -
ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
domokun replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
No I doubt it. The particles in OA are sometimes very taxing. Try these settings to reduce the load while keeping the game looking good. You're right; my bad (I got Vancer's post mixed up with Nicholas'). :j: -
Right-click and check the appropriate tick-box make the file read-only?

BUMP! (see question above) Plus one of clan who runs EyeFinity (AMD's 3-screen solution) complains that the red filter that flashes (on experiencing pain?) only appears on his middle screen, which looks a bit weird. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? (so that it flashes on all 3 of his screens?) -
BUMP! (see question above) Also, is there any chance that an AC-130 could be added alongside the A10 and UAV for CAS?

Is there any other way to get these "minor updates" other than Six Updater?

Should I keep going or should I just accept it?
domokun replied to rob151515's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Because, IIRC, one of the builds from a few months ago introduced an HT detection routine that meant that rendered such low-level deactivations obsolete. Or am I mistaken? (it's Monday morning after all) -

Any luck with those settings and/or software tweaks? As for overclocking your 2500k, 4.3-4.4 Ghz should be possible without increasing voltages. Any yes it will make a significant difference. -
Sounds good. Care to share your €600 config?

Good references. Therefore it seems that BIS got the reductions in speed going UP more or less correct, right? Now, the real problem seems to be with the speed of tanks going DOWN. And everyone agrees that it's way to high, right?

You're right but the CWR2 website, which is the official point of reference, lacks this information. So don't underestimate a FAQ :) Chances are that questions asked here are probably asked by those who visit the CWR2 website. -
Questions after playing the free version of Arma2
domokun replied to lavenders2's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Sorry but that CPU, although quad core, is FAR too slow (you need twice as fast). The same goes for your GFX card. Given the specs of your laptop I'd say that it was 1-2 years old. In which case the HDD will have a SATA interface (rather than an IDE one). Not that it really makes that much of an impact on performance (splindle speed is FAR more important). However if you've been able to play A2Free then maybe you've got an exceptionally well-balanced laptop. Here are a few settings that might help you achieve acceptable (<25 fps) framerates with such a meagre laptop. So I'd buy CO, install it, patch it to 1.60, tweak it using these settings and then see how it plays before shelling out any hard-earned cash on upgrading your laptop. Apart from adding more RAM and/or replacing your HDD by an SSD (good advice btw), upgrading laptops generally isn't very cost effective. -

First up try these tried and tested settings. That rig should definitely be able to play at 100% 3D. And overclocking your 2500k will definitely help. -

OK then maybe it would be a good idea to include it in a FAQ on your site. I checked your site before asking the questions and there was no mention of this... -

Although the 1.60 patch has improved performance, this advice is still relevant, even for the most experienced users and/or powerful PCs... -
@That's Life 2.0: any luck with updating this campaign? I was wondering if the 1.60 patch had fixed or broken anything...
-
So did we but it seems as if this latest version (1.60?) causes issues. Can anyone else confirm/disapprove this theory?

Has anyone tried running this mod with the Insurgency mod? The reason I ask is that this week we ran both and there seemed to be some conflict. The problem arises when others heal you then you can't do anything for like 2 minutes after. -

ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
domokun replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
That's good advice except that it's DDR-3 that's dirt cheap now, not the DDR-2 that he's got. Which is a shame because a RAM disk seems to be one of the most cost-effective ways of improving performance... In the meantime, try these tried and tested tweaks.
