@krzy It runs playlable for me but I also didn't add any enemy ais. It's possible to push to 20000 km view distance with fwatch but I assume the peformance would be just too low. On my incomplete "america island" (512x512, whole of North America, part of Greenland and South America) it does feel much like flying a real plane with a high vd. :) I believe a (official/unofficial) patch for multi core support and bigger memory addressing (up to 2048 MB now) would help to improve performance.

ArmA 3 is an entertainment game, what you're looking for is VBS, a specialized version of ArmA used for virtual military training. However, it is also a game that encourages cautious and team play and stimulates creativity with it's in-built mission editor and tools available to the general public. It is possible to gain valuable game design, 3D modeling and scripting knowledge by involving oneself into ArmA content creation and from this point of view, it does have an educational quality to it.

Also a tropical island is Linker Split's Tropic HD island which uses Far Cry's vegetation and looks impressive for an OFP island but it also runs slow even if you have a top CPU unless you play with low draw distances.

Better wait on official DX12 support (comming with Tanoa DLC), imo. These tests only show that A3's multi threading capabilities are very poor. A i7 5960X has three times the multi threading ability of a i5 2500K yet they both get the same performance. The engine is too heavily dependant on single threaded performance which DX12 should atleast improve.

All I know of OFP in Nam is that there was a pic showing some Nam soldiers with a OFP 2 logo on it. All the official screen grabs looked more like BI was remaking OFP on a new engine and making the units and vehicles a bit more modern (non Cold War). This was eventually released as ArmA: Armed Assault while Codemasters also had their version (Dragon Rising) but their game had very little in common with OFP outside of the name (felt like a more open CoD but way more boring and amateurish).

If this is adressed to me, then no, I haven't been looking into making any new custom Sweet FX settings or effects. I was trying to enable ReShade in OFP though, but to no success (I got graphics errors).

@maczer Armed Assault models and animations in OFP basically. It's from Nervps and all in Russian. Vegetation is Berghoff's and I added the ground textures.

Halo stuff (released/unreleased) -
I gave it a fast try and it's great stuff. Now OFP has not only one (WH40K) but two great sci-fi mods, with another very promissing one (Op. Shock) in the making. Now all we need is someone picking up the SW stuff and Halo stuff and OFP will be sci-fi bliss. ;p

I hope they restore most old stuff because let's be honest here, we're the ones keeping this game alive. Or we can keep pestering Bohemia to finally make it open source and give it fully into community's hands. ;p
