Well, looks like BI(Sim) is getting some proper competition from their Slovak neighbours... :) I've been following the Outerra Engine since it's reveal and I must say it's very well suited for "serious" sims, but like others have mentioned, there will probably not be much "game" here - it will likely be pretty barebones and it will be up to the users to create scenarios and content for it. This certainly isn't going after the "AAA mainstream gaming" audience.

Eve Online is now F2P: https://www.eveonline.com/ Be warned though, it's a game that requires full dedication to really get into it so it's possible it will be the only game you'll be playing. ;p Also, here's some cool free fan games: The Dark Mod - It's like the old Thief games but running on a fancier (Doom 3) engine. Renegade X - a free fan remake of C&C Renegade, the forgotten C&C FPS/RTS hybrid. Sonic Utopia - if you played Sonic on your Sega when you were younger, now you can experience how it would be like if it was in a fully 3D world in this free fan game. There was also a great Metroid 2 fan remake recently but that was pulled down so I won't put any links. edit: oh, and Shadow Warrior Classic & Stargunner are free on GoG & Steam, certainly worth a look for fans of classic FPS and shoot em up games.

Yeah, old Doom modding scene is amazing, but this is what this classic series deserves. Also of interest - Brutal Doom 64 was recently released, a really cool remake of the N64 spin-off title that came after Final Doom:

Moonwalker & Walking on Sunshine, done a bit differently: Now let's see if this can make it past tech-demo stage and become something to rival Star Citizen... ;p

There's one on moddb: http://www.moddb.com/mods/stargate-the-new-civilization

XRCTI used to be quite popular: https://steamcommunity.com/app/65790/discussions/0/627456486415485861/ There seem to be some servers for it still but I have no idea when/if people play it as I got no interest in CTI anymore.

I have to say that pre-baked lighting really improves the look of some units a lot, the Imperial war hound titan looks nothing short of great and would fit into any modern game. The detailed interiors of some vehicles are also a joy to behold. Looking forward to any new patches. :)

Hot new Russian gear in action (T-50 & T-14; other used addons/programs are Afghan Everon, Bears Lahta, Fwatch): p.s.: last one is for sci-fi fans and made by friend ;p -
Very professional mod, the amount of quality and content that was achieved with this (and also the older WH40K mod) is amazing. OFP will trully never die with such talented modders still making stuff for it. :) p.s.: I fear to think how a unified effort to bring a SW mod to light would be like ;p
-
Very true, without your great VVV mod would be not possible. :)

For those who haven't yet seen it - fighting hounds of Hades (original wolf model by Itweas, retexture + mp scripts by Faguss, edited models, edited melee system and demo mission by Kayvaan Shrike, video and added music by me): + some older vid (skeletons): Edit: Spartans made by ProfTournesol.

Saurian - Realistic Dinosaur Simulator!
the_noob replied to opteryx's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I like the focus on a realistic reconstruction of those beings, but I'm not sure if most people will actually like these "oversized birds", the Hollywood interpretation as seen in Jurassic Park is seen as much cooler. ;p It will also not be the only dinosaur/survival game out there, but it's nice to see some differentiation. -
Bumping thread for new guns trailer: Looks very nice but I must say I'm not too big on TripWire's "endless respawn" type gameplay. Of course for those that like it this will be great, but for me, I just wish the Mafia 3 guys would make a remake of Vietcong running on a modern engine. ;p

PowerServer & OFPMonitor: Multiplayer without Gamespy
the_noob replied to poweruser's topic in MULTIPLAYER
Just to inform - [LOL] Clowns of War server is still up, just not visible on OFP Monitor. Here is IP: 77.251.174.249:2322 -
I guess we can add Halo Forge here too, the free Halo editor for Windows 10: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/halo-5-forge-bundle/9nblggh4v0fr Forza 6 APEX is also a F2P title if someone doesn't know: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/forza-motorsport-6-apex-beta/9nblggh3shm7

Bit of randomness (Legend of Madness textures, DXDLL reflections in Vano mod, oversized Everon with Starship Troopers addons): -
A giant moon was spotted on Nogova: There are reports of Spartans too. ;p
-
Some scripting magic (click on pic to see vid)
-
Well, I just got thru the latest automatic major update of Windows 10 and it appears the black bar in CWA is gone and the textures are loading faster also. It works fine with DXDLL too. Quite surprised this "fix" came from MS rather than Bohemia. ;p

I'd say we're free to comment in this thread, there certainly aren't any such prohibitions set by the topic creator. The asteroids are retextured and rotating stones put into air with setPos command. Mars and the moons are large flat objects with large textures on them but since it's dark it blends quite well with the environment. Yes that platform would indeed look better but this is mostly for testing purposes as this is intended to become part of a larger project (MP oriented mod, although I'd personally also like to make something in SP regards). As you can see, I was basically doing a "free fall" rather than flying. ;p

Journey to Mars (texturing done by me, mission by Kayvaan Shrike) Also of interest - Dune mod and Veni Vidi Vici mod played in multiplayer (missions that come with it + my own): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUQVgNu3OQE&list=PLGrD4Shl-4jye2XNMXv5gaUXa3uyfvtC- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcd8iub_rwY&list=PLGrD4Shl-4jx5-uF4Qbhweky1uBCWJrc0 Update - more space tests can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYZ7fjvDJKs&list=PLGrD4Shl-4jyFusP170dRA3FhwaTuRh02

Looks like they're trying to call the Templars.

Cold War Enhanced mod has that, besides some other, rather advanced features for OFP/CWA (e.g. 3D sights, multiple stances, weapon jamming, new sound engine, improved AI, etc.). Here are the links to it: http://cwemod.com/ http://www.moddb.com/mods/cold-war-enhanced https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/186881-cold-war-enhanced/ The issue with the mod is, it's not MP friendly from my experience and it's rather demanding too, especially considering OFP/CWA is staying single-core and 512 MB RAM max bottlenecked. No idea about WW1 mission fixes, I haven't managed to run most of them either.

Arena shooters are multi-player oriented shooters which focus on reflexes and skill and were very popular in the late 90s/early 2000s with games such as Quake III: Arena and Unreal Tournament. Quake layed out the foundation and principles on which this sub-genre of shooters is based upon like rocket jumping, jump strafing, bunny hopping and so on. These type of games eschew realism in favour of arcade skill-based gameplay and are similar to fighting games in the level of required skill cap to be good at them in a competitive environment. So it comes as no surprise that some of the most cherished "pro gamers" come from these kind of games, where a thriving "e-sports" scene emerged from. It's also a genre of games that really showcases the PC platform's strenghts such as very high refresh rates, very accurate mouse control, customization and so on. As a big Quake fan/player myself, I'm pleased that this sub-genre of shooters seems to be making somewhat of a comeback these days, with a new Unreal Tournament being already in a playlable state and a new upcomming Quake game, titled Quake Champions. Here are some vids showing the reveals as well as gameplay footage from some of these type of games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9OAwvWlBrk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcbpIntnG8c If you have any memories of playing these games or still do, feel free to share your experience with us. :)

Well written review/guide. One of those essential programs for OFP/CWA alongside OFP Monitor and Fwatch. While there are alternatives to it such as ReShade/Sweet FX and ENB, they were not written specifically for OFP nor offer special effects like the ones seen in DXDLL like water reflections, night shader removal, custom NV effect and so on. I might add that the program is not compatible with Bandicam, which is why I haven't used those reflections in my "flood" video. Anyway, here is a small contribution from me - different water bump maps pack: http://www.mediafire.com/download/rc1vjrn9gvjwyvm/dxdll+custom+water+bump+textures.rar With this you can toy with the different types of water bump mapping I compiled and see which suits you best, but make sure you use atleast 512x512 size.
