  1. Sounds really good, I look forward to seeing these new updates both in SMA and Toadie's HLC packs. I'm really interested to learn your choice of cartridges / rounds for each caliber. Have you given any thought to doing / re-doing (often times the default BIS vanilla ammo can work as a stand-in) some obsolescent type rounds like the M80 7.62x51 NATO which dates back to the Vietnam, or the old / outgoing M855 rounds or even M193 (again vietnam era)? My reason for asking is that, despite how great these new and exciting rounds are (like Mk 318/319 or M855A1/M80A1) to the best of my knowledge, the US Armed Forces (and even then possibly only the front-line type units) for the most part are the only users, although I think that the British have / are going to have something very similar to M855A1 soon if they don't already. The other reason I'm interested in some of these older calibers is that a lot of the missions / operations that my ARMA group (Blackwater Realism Unit) plays involves 3rd world insurgent type opposition who would almost always be using older obsolete / obsolescent type equipment. The more I play ARMA, the more interest I have in reading about ballistics, or how and why certain bullets behave the way they do and the history behind why some guns & ammo gets adopted vs other competing designs. Glad to hear that we'll get to see the 7.5 Swiss service round soon. I mentioned earlier in the thread that when I saw that the SIG 510 was going to be the next gun Toadie was going to create, I had questions. One of the things though I think we might get to see and appreciate with the 7.5 Swiss is that the standard GP 11 loading was made to near Match-grade standards. All-in all a well kept secret.
  2. Hey Burnes, glad to hear you're still working on your stuff despite setbacks and time-management. I was wondering when/if you are going to release a public version (or is it to be bundled in with the EOD suite?) of your RG-31 Nyala which is currently featured in the 15th MEU recruit pack? That vehicle is by far one of my favorite MRAP type vehicles and is very well done. I just figured I would ask because I didn't see it mentioned with any of your other work.

Believe it was the Minimi Mk3 (7.62x51mm) which has quickly become the new favorite weapon of a friend of mine who usually runs a SAW.

    (SMA) Specialist Military Arms

Hey, really pleased with what I've seen from your mod so far, just wanted to let you guys know that I think there may be a problem with the Iron Sights on the Tavor. At least for me the rear peep doesn't line up with the front sight post. You end up looking over the rear sight instead of through it.
  5. It would be nice if you could pick who could use all three (morphine, epi, blood bag) in the module settings, but this would undoubtedly complicate things. Could be worth it though.
  6. I'll try to answer this as best as I can based off of what I understand about ACE 3. Most of the time I function as the combat medic in my unit (we play similar to you, no revive, usually only one medic). We're still in our testing phase for ACE 3, (using AGM for now) but when we switch over we plan on using the advanced medical. I understand where you're coming from and I think you make good points about the basic medical system, however I can't say I agree with your characterization of advanced being "a difficult medical mini-game for the sake of one person". Without getting into the surgical kit and personal aid kit, the only other thing that average team members can't use is an IV. In my opinion, a Combat-Medic need not be involved 100% of the time someone is injured (but I do agree with you that this shouldn't just turn him into a glorified water boy). The use of buddy-aid and / or a Combat Lifesaver techniques is essential for stabilization of casualties, especially when the medic may not be immediately available. In some cases during testing w/Advanced Medical I've seen others successfully treat unconscious casualties before I was able to get there. Advanced medical does require a lot more knowledge on first-aid and treatment (blood pressure, heart rate and so on) and does complicate the use of everything from bandages to morphine and epinephrine. As I've only looked over it I've not had much experience with basic medical (other than the fact that epi and possibly blood bags can only be given by medics) but from what I've heard its very similar to the old AGM system (since its based on it) except for those details. Did your unit use AGM previously or just come straight off of Arma 2? The reason I was wondering is the AGM medical system that we currently use sounds very close to what you're after (can't say I would advise going to AGM though as its no longer in development / one of these days a BIS update is probably going to cause it to stop working) although non-medics can do everything a medic can, the mission maker can use the modules to set how much of a penalty non-medics are given when performing medical tasks. One of the other things I'd also like to clear up about basic medical, I'm not sure if I'm correct on this but, the way AGM worked for us, bandaging wounds did not "heal" anything, they merely stopped said wound from bleeding. If a unit has been bleeding profusely or for a long time (or been injured a number of times and not been given a blood bag), gradually their vision will fade to grey and eventually they will pass out and die from blood-loss if unaided. As you mention that this has not happened for your squad, you may want to experiment with increasing the "Bleeding Coefficient" setting in the medical module to a number above 1 (say 1.20 or something to start as a test) to see if this makes people start passing out more and blood bags more of a necessity.
  7. Can't wait until you're new update is out, I was wondering if you have any plans at doing compatibility patches for RH's M4 pack or the upcoming SMA release (obviously not until its actually been released)?

    EricJ Release thread

Hey, don't mean to derail your thread but what firing range / target script is that that you're using in the vid? The reason I'm asking is because I've never found one that's able to show / keep bullet groupings like that, the ones that I have seen always show the hit marker lower than where the bullet actually impacted the target.

    EricJ Release thread

I agree, I can't really think WHY a suppressor like a Gemtech Halo wouldn't fit on an A4, it uses the same A2 flash hider after all. Honestly from what I know based off of almighty infallible book learning (so I may very well be wrong here) I'd say its more a question of operational considerations. From what I know the A4, when used by the US Army and as now used by the USMC is mostly issued to regular infantry and rear-echelon types who would in normal circumstances never use / be issued a suppressor. At the same time the "high speed, low drag" type special forces folks (Green Berets, Force recon and MARSOC) who are most likely to have / use a suppressor would probably be using carbines, and anybody in those units who needed the longer barrel / range advantage that an A4 would bring over a carbine (assuming they are still sticking to 5.56) would probably be running something purpose-built like a Mk12 SPR or SAM-R instead. Basically think of it as putting off-road mud tires on a car, something that you rarely see, (and even rarer does it make much sense), but is still entirely possible.
  11. Thank you very much. Always end up overlooking the little things.
  12. Hey ACE 3 devs, I'm having some issues trying to use the ACE 3 medical menu. Even though I have the module placed its not coming up and I still have to treat casualties as usual (using advanced medical). I haven't been able to find any info on how it should work. One thing that I do notice is that after I treat a casualty I'm immediately "snapped" to a crouched posture but no menu. My next step in troubleshooting. I'm guessing that I may be having some type of mod compatibility issue, I'll turn off my other mods and go from there.

    TRYK's Multi-Play Uniforms

I'm also able to play on Mogadishu without loosing any TRYK equipment. On that note, would it be possible to get a 1991 Gulf war era "chocolate chip" desert camo patterned uniform to go along with the helmet and boonie that you already have done in the same camo?

    Dagger Scopes for Arma 3

Awesome news, can't wait to see the finished release!
  16. Figured everyone would enjoy this "preview" of a SIG 510 "in action". http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/08/27/swiss-firepower-sig-amt-stg57/ Honestly when I first found out this was going to be the next gun added to the HLC collection I was like "Really, nobody used this gun, why is he going so obscure?" But the more I read about it and look at the pictures (It looks like something that the Germans wold be using in an alternate history WW2-in-the-50s sci-fi) the more I come to appreciate it and anticipate its release.

Oh yeah that's right, I knew you had done that for A2, didn't know you were also doing it up for A3. Sounds great.

The tritium used in the C79 is green as far as I know, and it should be just the triangle which is illuminated. Also, this is just off the top of my head but I think the post should hide a man at 300m. Also, I wanted to mention another idea that I sort of got based on looking at your scopes. I don't think this will be easy in any way, because you'd have to somehow get the ballistics to line up, but it might be really interesting to adapt some of the BDC type reticles to different calibers, like what you've already done with the ELCAN Spectre DR in both 5.56 and 7.62. Mainly I'm talking about some of the mod-guns that are out there which use .300 BLK, 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel. One of the big reasons we don't typically use .300 BLK is because of the severe drop past 300m, no BDCs line up with it, and its pretty impractical to pull out a range card and make adjustments for 400-500m shots. If the enemy is this close there's probably a good chance you're exchanging fire and you probably aren't going to have time to spin those dials. The biggest problem again is cross-mod compatibility, what one mod-maker thinks a .300 BLK should perform like may be different than the next and you do open yourself up to all kinds of inconsistencies but I thought it was worth mentioning. On the other hand though, you may be able to get it to match up quite well with something common like ACE 3 advanced ballistics. Also, as far as I know, these types of inconsistencies are things that you have to watch out for when you are choosing a scope, a BDC reticle designed to be used with a 14.5 barrel shooting 55 grain bullets is going to be a bit off if you put it on something with an 18 inch barrel that's shooting 77 grain and so on.

Wow, Elcan looks great! The only thing I would add is that in military use they contain a tritium element at the triangular tip of the reticle post, but this is removed for civilian and I believe Law Enforcement use as well, so I think its fine. I'll try to get you whatever info I can drag up on the Leitz C1. Its 4x and has a BDC ring (to the rear) which is adjustable from 100-1000 yards (so no precise mil / MOA adjustment). The front ring I believe was for windage and I think went 5 mils either way, but I am unsure. Also I would take a guess that the stadia are also 5 mils but i may be wrong. As far as ranging goes I'm going to guess that its done by comparing the target to the thickness of the post, although I could only speculate the scale (the post is as thick as a man at x00 yards / meters). I actually just ordered a book on Canadian Sniper Equipment so I should be able to tell you more when it arrives. Don't worry, I've been wanting to get this book for some time, this just gives me an excuse.

    Dagger Scopes for Arma 3

On the Elcan C79 the horizontal stadia are 10 mils across, not sure if that's true on the old Leitz. Here's a user's manual for the ELCAN C79 from the manufacturer http://www.nordicmarksman.com/kz-content/images/pages/files/ELCAN%203_4x%20User%20Manual.pdfreticle is on page 4. On the C79, to the best of my recollection, the "ranging line" which is to the lower left is meant to be measured against an average man's height 180cm I beleive. If the line cuts him in half he's at 300m and if he fits between the two lines he's at 600m, I may be wrong about this an it may be 500m / 1000m. Also in the picture it looks like the reticle for the Leitz is offset to the right, I am not sure if this is really the case or just how the picture was taken. Other than reading of some accounts of some guys liking the Leitz as one of the better scopes for the FAL at the time (vs Trilux, Hensoldt and others, none of which were officially used by Canada) I have very little to go on. It was used very sparingly and mostly shelved by the 70s when the Canadian Army got their first C3 sniper rifles. Yes I may have overlooked the red dot, I remember seeing one on there but I believe I just assumed it was an Aimpoint. Thanks.
  21. Dunno guys, if the G36 is anything like the previous HLC releases so far, it might be TOO realistic. I for one fully expect to be able to smell burning plastic after dumping three magazines!

I wish I had some that were good. Here's the only picture I've ever found of the Leitz reticle /9bottom right). http://www.mycity-military.com/slika.php?slika=111839_61154037_FAL_ScopeC1Canada.jpg You can sort of see the family resemblance to the C79 reticle (http://ext.pimg.tw/nekosp/1201211267.jpg) although without the range finding line or the tritium element. As for the OEG, here's the closest I've seen http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j612DZCPAyE/TDHUts1K43I/AAAAAAAAADg/zeRl51sLU1o/s1600/SingPtSightPicture.jpg The actual sight picture would be perceived as something similar to this when aiming with both eyes. http://loungecdn.luckygunner.com/lounge/media/OE-simulation.jpg This concept was the basis for what became the ACOG scope. Really interesting history, they were used by some of the Son Tay Raiders, and were bleeding edge back then. As I understand it though they had their peculiarities, you could only aim and hold a target for a split second before the dot would "wander off" once your brain fully focused on the occluder but the main reason they were used in the first place was to improve first shot accuracy vs an Iron sight. Some of the later ones (probably early 80s) had tritium vials. NF MOAR http://nightforceoptics.com/sites/default/files/styles/default-image/public/MOAR_30MOA.png?itok=cZplBfRI

Yeah its quite true that there are more modern versions of the Hensoldt and PSO. I'm not really sure on the Leatherwood ART either, but to the best of my knowledge despite how crude it is today, the Starlight scope was rather well received and used by the USMC and US Army on the M14 and M21 for use in low-light conditions. Good point about adjusting the zero I'll have to ask my friend if he's been trying that. Also I have a few interesting ideas for scopes / reticles I wanted to share with you. Please don't think of this as a request but more as a topic of conversation. Maybe it comes from growing up watching so many 70s and 80s movies but I'm sort of a fan of some of the older stuff. I think a good candidate for addition to your pack would be the Colt 3x20 which as far as I know uses the same reticle as the 4x20 you already have. Something else that I would love to see but would probably be a bit of a challenge would be an old-style Single Point Red-dot like the Armson OEG, I wonder if it could be accomplished by inverting the light amplification to somehow make what you see through the scope appear darker to simulate the black background of the occluder. Another old scope that few have heard of but is apparently quite prized by collectors is the Leitz Canada Sniper Scope, the progenitor to the modern ELCAN (Ernst Leitz Canada) which was used on the C1A1 (Canadian version of the FN FAL). I only have one found one rather poor picture of the reticle but you can see the similarities between it and the later ELCAN C79. Lastly, getting a bit more up to date, some of the newer Trijicon products (TARS and VCOG) I think would be great candidates for ffp scopes. Last but not least, my friend's favorite reticle is the NF MOAR pattern but I believe you already have something from Night Force that is quite close.

    Dagger Scopes for Arma 3

Previews look great. That's pretty much what I was thinking of for the Enfield No. 32 scope and I would think the Colt 4x20, some of the Nam-era scopes and possibly the Hensoldt. Good thinking with the clip-on scopes 10x seems just about right. My sniper friend was also wondering if it was possible to increase the elevation adjustment on some of the higher powered scopes (ends at 20.0 for most of them I think). I don't have his exact data, but I believe he was either working with the Mar-10/Noreen Bad News .338 Lapua. Anyways I think he was using one of the higher powered Night Force scopes and he basically "ran out of scope" at around 1500m or so. I think he was still able to shoot out to around 1800m or so with the reticle, but he figures if he had 30 clicks instead of 20 he'd be able to accurately put rounds on target at around 2400m or so. The only other thing though, I really couldn't tell you how many clicks an actual high power NF scope would have so its possible we're just overlooking the realism. I'll see if I can get him to post on here he could probably explain it better.
  25. From what I've read so far there's still a lot of conjecture on this as at least initially they had no success in duplicating the inconsistencies faced in Afganistan and blamed their ammo. I've also heard rumblings that H&K improperly manufactured the composite "frames" of these weapons and used the wrong type of plastic, leading to much greater sensitivity to temperature. Despite what's been said I think it would be a very big surprise for Germany to dump the G36 altogether. I've also read that there's some effort been made a designing some type of metal insert which would keep the barrel from directly contacting the frame. I believe that replacing the entire composite frame would probably be cost-prohibitive but I think that may become a possibility if its proven that H&K did something wrong.
