  1. I just had an issue with the RHS compatibility mods too. I had subscribed to them, and then found a DL link. I joined a server that was running the mod but was kicked because I had a spare mod: RHS compatibility mod for both AFRF and USAF. I clicked them off my launcher list and had the the same issue. Turns out that somehow when I subscribe to it then it has some sort of "ghost protocol" (always wanted to use that, teehee!), and even though that mod was unselected it was causing the issue while trying to join server. The mod also did not show up on my mods list on the main screen when not selected as a mod, and still got the same error while trying to join server. All of these attempts ended up with me getting kicked.. I ended up unsubscribing to it, deleting out of my hidden "!Workshop" folder, and after that I was getting the normal "missing files....etc" error for not having the compatibility mod. Anyone else know of anything like this? ~S
  2. Hello!!! i have a quick question. I used to know how to draw tracklines on maps using the stock map tools. The lines were two click, super easy, and arrow straight. Now I can only figure out how to draw on the maps, and my lines aren't very straight lol......how do I lay tracklines now? ~S

Fuller, quick question: My friends are saying on PW6 they are seeing v0.5.3.3......I thought I had the most recent one based on the front pages of this thread, but my documentation only shows v0.5. I just downloaded and installed the hotfix 0.5.3 but the link for .2 is dead......somehow I feel like I have asked you this before??? Can you point an old idiot in the right direction so I can be up to date puh-leeeeez?? Thanks in advance, and sorry for the flagrant dumbassery  ~S

    EricJ Release thread

I disagree Gunny. Can you see what's right on front of the heli a little better, sure, but you also should have a pretty good idea before you go sticking your rotors in there anyways, and you can see to the rotors unobstructed. From the front you can't see anything behind you like the pilot can. In the Apache you have a great field of view from the pilot's seat; I was fortunate enough to have been able to sit in one being decommissioned in Boise, I was amazed at how much better the view was from the back seat vs the gunner's seat. There are two other things that make this just fine - crew coordination and helicopter awareness. I fly with a real good friend, and we talk constantly, and on or near the ground we both are looking for and pointing out obstacles. He also is instrumental in helping me get on a pad straight in any heli......did I mention that we both fly in first person only? The helicopter awareness is something you learn over time, you get comfy in your view, what you can see, and can gauge pretty well how much room you have. Again, I fly only in 1st person, and to be honest it takes the whole depth perception problem out of the equation. I mean, it's obviously still 3D, but it simplifies it by not having to gauge it from an external view. From inside you can track precisely your linear, lateral, an vertical movement and use parts on the canopy as references......and you'll pick up how much clearance you have to your tail and rotors with experience. IRL they have ground crewmembers doing this for you, but it's Arma so hey........ ~S

    F-14 Tomcat Series Standalone

Oh, almost forgot - Is there a way to spawn the bird with the wings folded in the 3D editor? I'm building a nice little jet training map and want to stick those pretty Tom Kitties in HAS's. Killer mod and thanks so much for your hard work Firewill!!! ~Rob

    F-14 Tomcat Series Standalone

No, I figured it out. They don't work in 3rd person while on the ground on start up, so I never looked again after take off. They worked all the way until I folded the wings while taxiing back to my revetment. They look real nice!! I like how the elevons look. A loooooong time ago I was playing SF1 and went into the Tomcat files and changed it up so the elevons looked like they were supposed to. It totally makes the Tomcat look LEGIT!! So yes, sorry for not checking more, and nice work!! I will try to get the hook down again. I may have Nimitz too close to an airfield as I am getting the ILS for the runway and not the carrier. I'll move her offshore a little bit and keep trying. So I made two good touch & go passes at the wires, and then followed it up with one last one that should have been a ramp strike. I have been making the approaches to carrier in between 120kmh and 140kmh with the boards out. I really would like my friend to come on and snap a few pics so I can see what it looks like with a nose high attitude and touching down on Nimitz!! the other people I have seen fly just sorta, you know, drive 'em onto the deck lol. I set a button on my J/S for the brake, but I have to hold it to keep the boards out on approach. Is there anyway to make the airbrake on a selector in the scroll menu? IRL it seems as if the Tomcat keeps them out on approach; a number of fighter jets do actually, it allows them to keep the rpm's up on approach so the power is immediately available if something happens. Jet engines, from what I understand, take a little longer to spool up from lower rpm's. Hard lessons learned from early jet days, sadly. It also allows them to keep a slow speed while maintaining high rpm's, which helps them keep the attitude they carry through the approach and not have to worry about being behind the power curve in a stall. No rush if you do decide to implement it, and if I am asking for too much or seem to be badgering please let me know. The last thing I want to do is get on your bad side!!! Here's a link to one of my favorite F-14 pics lol....enjoy!!! http://www.strangemilitary.com/images/content/156262.jpg ~S

I honestly cannot see the spoilers or the eleven function visually. The elevator function works visually, but not elevon. Roll rate is good, like both are working in the flight model. Next question, don't laugh......but how do I get the hook to come down???? ~Rob

    F-14 Tomcat Series Standalone

Hello!! So I am just starting to get into jets. I have a few questions and am hoping someone can help me get sorted. the first is off topic, sorry!! 1) I have a full CH gear set up, stick, throttle, J/S. I am having trouble getting my throttle to act correctly. I am using the analog function and deleted the default keys. I have just the teensiest bit of decrease thrust, like maybe .1 of the range of motion, the rest is acceleration. Anyone know how to make it proportioned properly so I have more control of the A/C? 2) Are there any plans for 6DOF? I run trackIR and have noticed that a lot of A/C do not include it. Be handy in a DF.....:-) 3) Are there any plans to have the elevons working visually and for the over wing spoilers (ailerons, but not technically ailerons) also to work visually? Killer mod so far just flying it around. I have around 1800 hours in Arma 3 and it has been all helicopters for me. Flying fighters is a new experience in Arma, and I find it a challenge as it does seem that the game is not really set up to fly fixed wing as well as even my old copy of IL2 1946. I also wanted to say that the Aardvark skin looks FABU and I am very much looking forward to employing it!! ~S

    F-14 Tomcat Series Standalone

I hope this isn't poor form or asking, but would someone be ale to crank out liveries for VF-143 Pukin' Dogs and VF-114 Aardvarks? I am totally lusting for both / either of these. Less famous squadrons, but both are very old squadrons and the liveries are very neato. Here are two links: This is to VF-143's last operational flight of the F-14: http://www.carrierbuilders.net/articles/20050901_VFA-143/20050901_VFA-143.htm And here's one to a VF-114 squadron history page, it has a rendering of the Tomcat in VF-114 livery.....the last paragraph talks about the livery on later Tomcats: http://www.topedge.com/alley/squadron/pac/vf114his.htm Thank!! ~S

Will you keep buying ArmA games?

I agree, for the most part, with the above. The same people who complain about paying for DLC also run a multitude of games that they paid money for, and keep buying more games.....I even catch people griping about Arma 3 DLC who run DCS lol.....that's just silly, it all is. I love the fact that the DLC is usable for folks who don't have it, i.e, you can ride in a helicopter you didn't pay for, you just can't use it. Always thought that was a neat approach, and I bet it even made a little money for BI, you know, once people see it n action they might have upgraded. Where I do think BI has maybe been a little bit harsh was on the Tanoa map. That should be free content. There are folks who are vehemently vanilla Arma 3 folks and won't pay for DLC. Why not keep them interested by making the map another part of an Arma update/upgrade for free, and just charge the rest of us for the weps and vehicles? ~S

Cheese, Yup......and use Duda's advanced sling loading to haul the broken bird home. We did it in a Vietnam scenario with a downed Huey and a Chinook. It was RAD!!! I could see similarly themed missions here with CH-53's pulling these mules home. Man, I feel like a kid who's feeling the anticipation of Christmas back in September lol....... ~S
