Janat 10 Posted July 18, 2010 I was just wondering if there was a way to get the soundtracks for ArmA 2 and OA in lossless format like 16 bit or 24 bit 44.1+ KHz FLAC or WAV files. I know the soundtrack are in PBO files in OGG format, but they're only 128kbps or something, not even near lossless. I really love the tracks but they lack in audio quality :(. Janat 10 Posted July 21, 2010 So no one knows if it's possible or not?
Perfect Dark 0 Posted July 21, 2010 Well I dont know anything at all about sound compression but I still have to say how awesome the soundtrack of OA is. Not just OA but all of OFP/ArmA/ArmA2 soundtracks are just pure delight. BIS has really a great taste of music! Thanks for all of this!
maddogx 13 Posted July 21, 2010 The only way to get your hands on the original material in FLAC form will be to politely ask the BIS guys. ;)
Imperator[TFD] 444 Posted July 21, 2010 That Organ Works music track from A2 and OpF is still epic.
nettrucker 142 Posted July 21, 2010 If it's in ogg format it should be possible to reverse it into the original sound source. Not sure what FLAC format is. kind regards
maddogx 13 Posted July 21, 2010 If it's in ogg format it should be possible to reverse it into the original sound source. Not sure what FLAC format is.kind regards OGG is a lossy compression format, meaning it isn't perfect quality. FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is a lossless format, like WAV (except compressed), which means it doesn't have any kind of quality degradation due to the compression. Dead3yez 0 Posted July 21, 2010 The bit rate varies in the tracks. The highest I've seen in one is about 210kbps. The quality is nothing to complain about imo.
nettrucker 142 Posted July 21, 2010 Thanks for the heads up MadDogX. It's quite embarassing being a musician and not to know what FLAC is.:o In any case I learned something new. kind regards

The quality is ok for ingame background music, but I'm sure the original files would sound a lot better :D
nettrucker 142 Posted July 21, 2010 Yes of course! A non compressed soundfile does sound better, but it needs to be compressed otherwise the game would be 100 GB instead of 8-10 GB. A song lasting average 3 min is about 45 MB if you convert it to mp3 only around 4.5 MB I believe in ogg format it's even less. Think about all the speech and radio files, music apart, it would be impossible to release a game with non compressed sound files. Get yourself a programm that is capable to convert wav files to ogg format. It should be possible to reconvert them into wav. kind regards
Placebo 29 Posted July 22, 2010 Don't any of the various editions contain a soundtrack CD? I know the A2 special editions have it....
