jpinard 10 Posted July 11, 2010 I'm playing the excellent "Behind Enemy Lines" mission from Laggy, and with so much terrain to cover at times I'd like them to just run at top speed next to me. Is the closest I can do tell them to "Walk upright" and be in "Safe" mode?
Grizzle 0 Posted July 11, 2010 Pretty much, but they still often get stuck in combat mode and move too slowly.
jpinard 10 Posted July 11, 2010 Pretty much, but they still often get stuck in combat mode and move too slowly. Ahhh that is my problem exactly. Kind of frustrating.
oyman 0 Posted July 11, 2010 put them in aware, but first you have to put them in danger mode then into aware.
jpinard 10 Posted July 11, 2010 put them in aware, but first you have to put them in danger mode then into aware. So switch to danger, then switch to aware, then switch to Walk upright and they won't get stuck in combat mode?
Scourge012 10 Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) That's right. They won't be in danger mode anymore. There's a couple reasons why this works. Partly because they know they are a good target standing up...but mostly because they'll die in 5 seconds. That was a bit sarcastic but I'm serious. Getting them to stand up under enemy fire is a bad idea--even when you need to move. I've always met with failure with it. Though, I haven't been playing a long time, mind you. Solution A) What I do is get near them, tell them to "regroup." Put them in AWARE, Then "All, Scan Horizon." They'll start looking around and turning incrementally in 360 degree circles...shooting at infantry they spot. When they make the full 360 degree pass, they'll say "Clear" (having just dispatched the infantry nearby) and then the little red target reticle will disappear and you can jog to your next way point. Solution B) If you get attacked by a vehicle, put them into Prone and tell them to find cover and hold fire (assuming there aren't any infantry--if there are, I still put them in hold fire and do the shooting myself). They'll do a pretty good job hiding and eventually the APC/Tank will loose interest and roll away. If you are really close to the APC/Tank in a field keep telling them to fall back while PRONE. They'll crawl and roll away, and again the APC/Tank will hopefully lose interest and roll away. Then do Solution A. Solution C) The best solution is to try to avoid vehicles when at all possible. Use your map and move from green patch to green patch or grayer areas (i.e. the wooded areas or building groups). Analyze the slope of the hill to tell when you'll be walking up hill or down hill. Try to stay uphill and behind the summit from your objective until you are ready to make your assault (this is to use the terrain to hide your approach). It's not always possible and this might take some extra time, but sometimes even the "direct" approach, even while being sneaky with the bushes and trees/fences/houses gets you into some sticky situations that you can usually avoid. Arasaka 10 Posted July 12, 2010 An "At the Double!" option would still be very useful.
Tonci87 163 Posted July 12, 2010 I really would like to have a "move there as fast as possible command" Would be really great if you know that superior enemy forces are aproaching and you have to get to the evac NOW
Baff1 0 Posted July 12, 2010 Me too. Hit run is a useless tactic when they refuse to run
soupdragon 10 Posted July 12, 2010 This option was in the GL4 addon for ARMA2 it was an "at all costs" command where your troops would stop whatever they were doing and get to the designated waypoint as fast as possible. Came in really handy in some situations where you have to bug out as quick as possible. SD
4 IN 1 0 Posted July 12, 2010 I was acturally think of this, see, if BI somehow managed to make move orders independent from combat awareness orders(steath, safe, aware, danger), and give them 3 move orders in relation to moving speed(sneak/cautious, move to, move fast to) like in Close Combat series, live will be much easier.
