The state of ofp multiplayer

Recommended Posts

Why do people insist on playing OFP online like it is Quake III or something?

I swear to god every game that I join consists of the russians starting like 30 seconds away on foot from the West with plenty of vehicles on each side. There is no communication or strategy between people on either side, as soon as it starts, everyone just takes off like idiots going their own way, crashing their unlimited supply of choppers and shit. Upon being killed, they respawn and do the same thing over and over.

Am I missing something? Or is this totally not the way the game is supposed to be played? When I first heard of OFP a year ago this was not the multiplayer experience that I had envisioned. I mean, does anyone EVER play without respawns on and less than say, 500 vehicles available to each side?

Or perhaps I am way off base.

I agree with most of what you say, pyle. These big DM/CTF maps with each side having tanks, APCs, choppers and jets are a little too common on most of the servers I have played on.

Yes, it is usually a mad dash run around with very little teamwork or planning. I usually get bored of these type of games after about 10 minutes or so, depending on my mood.

My MP games these days are mainly restricted to LAN sessions, and they are mostly coop games, which allow for a lot more strategy and teamwork.

Not badmouthing you deathmatch types, but it's just not my thing, too reminiscent of games like Quake or Halflife.

If you don't like playing the FFA games..don't. I am not disagreeing with you. I love Co-op games the most... however I also love the fact you can choose options to have repawn, DM or Cf games... varety is the the spice of life. I just hope they add a Fast restart to MP games for Co-op... (to help out us poor modem users) because sometime someone dies very early in a mission (usually me sad.gif ) and I would like to skip all the loading data screens and just restart the exact same mission with the exact same start... Co-op with Rgr wilco on the best for me... but that is my choice...

I totaly agree with u gonk, cos i hate this damn typing stuff. And the most annoying thing that bugged me before i started using Rrg Wilco is when u were typing something and getting killed dammit!!! So to all those people which i met and who say that its too expensive to buy a mic i'd say: don't complain, you won't regret it wink.gif

I also came to ofp to get away from the Quake world of no skill, but know many 12yr olds have the game, and all they want in choppers and tanks, take those things out and their up shit creek, with no paddle. It is this vermin that must be stamped out only then will MP become a fun thing (and interesting), as for now I play single player and some MP with those that like to play with small numbers of equipment.

***Untill the day Adults take back the game and play it the way it should be ***

I play almost exclusivly co op missions, just because they tend to be more cooperative and teamwork is key to finishing the mission. Personally, CTF or DM isn't what I play OFP for. They tend to be totally chaotic and without any meaning. Last night I played a coop that lasted over an hour, it was fun, one of my best OFP MP moment ever.

The only way CTF, TDM, or A&D are any fun is when you are on a serious squad competing against other serious squads. Doesn't matter if its league play or just friendly scrimmage, its the best OFP can get.

My advice then...join a squad, train & practice, and forget about public servers.....unless you're just looking for mindless killing...which I admit we all need every now and then. smile.gif

We have about 75 missions on are server coop, CTF, DM, Team Death Match and many many more.

We have maps that are team play no vehicles.

And maps that have alot of vehicles.

Also we have maps that are just one kind of vehicle like tanks, Censa's that are AA, Island war's that just have boats and many more that have just 1 kind of vehicle. And all the maps we put out need teamwork to win. Without it your going to loose.

But to just name a couple of are maps that are played more then 10 hours a day that is nothing but teamwork and no vehicles or just tractors "only two maps that have that".

CTF_TeamWork

30_CTF_HighNoon

CTF_TeamWork Addons

32_CH_CastleA3.2

CH_CaptureHold

24_CTF_FastForward

24_CTF_Forest

28_C_Destroy Convoy

28_C_Hard Rain 1

28_TDM_Jungle_Raid

32_CTF_Deliverence which one has tractors.

32_CTF_Ho Down which only has tracktors and trabs cars

32_CTF_HighNoon2

Devil's Island

32_CTF_Tattoo's Island Paradise

Plus a shet load of COOP's cause when are server started out thats all we played everyday 24/7. And trust me if their is an true admin logged in most then likly if someone ask's for a coop he well load it in 2 sec's. CAUSE WE LOVE THEM NO RESPAWN LOL. a true way to get rid of noobs sometime's.

Oh boy. I know what u mean. If u really want to enjoy tactics and strategy, as Espectro sayd join a clan that is active in a clanladder (the combat zone, ofp league etc).

U will experience the multiplayer that the designers of this game envisioned. There is no similarities in a game between clans to a game played just for fun.

So I'm a 12 year old because I want choppers and a couple tanks? You might want to clearify on that because I like strategy, like using chinooks for strategic paratrooper drops, and if the mission calls for it, a little hell raising with a cobra or two (depending on game size) is alwas fun. You have to remember, not all people run around with their trigger button glued down like traditional FPS people.

Tanks and choppers are great and they do have their place in the game but in most games I have played the moment they are all gone the kids go home and leave their team short handle. That’s why I get the shits.

I'll have to jump on the squad band wagon here. Coop is what our group primarly plays. We might do the occasional CTF but most prefer COOP.

You have to have coms, can't ever imagine playing this again and having to type. Me and another squad mate played this one mission for over an hour on Friday night. You had to sneak in and rescue a commander who was captured and then get to the extraction point.

With out coms you would have a real hard time completing this mission. Too many guys hiding w/ snipers wink.gif

If you want standards when playing, tactics, coms then I would suggest joining a squad. It's very addictive tounge.gif
