vitoal125 0 Posted April 20, 2002 Remember me, about 12 weeks ago I told you all that I was leaving to go to boot camp. Today I return on the beginning of my 10 days of leave as a US Marine and probably one of the few people on these boards who have actually fired the real M16A2 service rifle and done some combat training. I go back to the school of infantry on April 30 to commence my real training on being a grunt in America's finest fighting force. Well, time to check out whats changed! scout 0 Posted April 20, 2002 okay, here are 2 tips for the field: 1. the front sight is a GREAT can opener! 2. the rifle is the best tent pole ive used ever! enjoy!
advocatexxx 0 Posted April 20, 2002 Actually you'd be surprised how many people here are or have been in the armed forces. How are the Marines ? I thought about taking a break from school and joining. I need motivation, bossing around, and pushing my body to its physical and mental limits might be a little helpful too. But I have a great haircut and don't want to lose it, lol (long live the King)
vitoal125 0 Posted April 20, 2002 good tips, but where do you get cans? I just got some MREs that say they were packaged in 1997. During the crucible, one of my MREs had a m and m package in it that had an old million dollar contest that had to be redemed in october of I think 98. But for all those who are feeling motivated and deciced to join the ranks of the devil dogs, use your sleeping bag to sleep in when in the field. Its a heck of a lot warmer then what our DIs wanted us to sleep in (poncho liner and poncho). He called it a taco shell and said it would keep us nice and warm, but I nearly froze my rear end off. scout 0 Posted April 20, 2002 sorry...... we still use cans as our MRE.LOL and dont worry, the tinned meat we had was almost 9 years old, and it was considered quite new. remember , sleeping bags wont be with you always! u better find some way to sleep in that poncho (i use thermal underware and shirt) so start improvising! thats the first rule of the soldier! action man 0 Posted April 20, 2002 How come you are making a big deal about being in the army? I have got 4 mates who have been in the army, now that they are out 2 are on the dole,1 is a taxi driver, and the other is a road sweeper! in my opinion you would be better off getting qualifications for a decent job!And before you all start i have already been their done that and worn the t-shirt,and forgotten things that some people will ever know. And just for good measure done things that would make your hair curl! He's merely saying he's got 10 days off and thought he'd come and say hello. Your opinions of "decent job" are just that opinions. If he wants to be a United State Marine, then let him be. E6Hotel 0 Posted April 20, 2002 Vitoal125: Welcome aboard, Devil Dog. Â Are you going to SOI East or West? I can remember freaking my parents out when I was on boot leave because I would jump up in the middle of the night and start "counting off" while asleep. Â Heh. usnst 0 Posted April 21, 2002 ha ha ha E6 hotel. Sounds like your typical case of "marine syndrome" (thats what i like to call it, its pretty much every marine has some sort of periodic mental disorder and goes nuts) And about the pay thing, if you are smart you will get a good education while in the service, if you are even smarter you'll go to college for a couple years before you even get in. Military is a great way to pay for your education, but you got to do more than get done the day and go have some beers. Take every advantage they give you and you'll have a worthwhile stay in the military.
E6Hotel 0 Posted April 21, 2002 usnst: To paraphrase Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising:" "There is a tendency in the Navy to think that Marines are stupid because they make their living charging into machine gun nests." Just so you know, I had a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting before I enlisted (Surprise!. Since lat moving from the grunts, I've picked up two professional certifications and am working on the third. P.S. Can't stand beer. Semper Fi

E6Hotel 0 Posted April 21, 2002 Albert Schweitzer: "Simple question then: what is the difference between "free cashflow" and cashflow, no just kiddin!" Free cash flow = Cash flow - capital expenditures - dividends. You have to take it easy on me, I'm an internal auditor, not a CPA! Semper Fi

E6Hotel 0 Posted April 21, 2002 Ralph Wiggum: Heh. Â Are you going for an M.S. (More of the Same) or a PhD (Piled Higher and Deeper)? I probably shouldn't have made that 1st post about having a degree; came across as a megalomaniac. Â It's just that I can't stand the "He must have enlisted because he couldn't find a job at the sawmill" misconception many people have. usnst: Hope I didn't make you think I was snapping at you. usnst 0 Posted April 21, 2002 Hotel, I did not think you were snapping at me at all. ANd i think you should say that you got a degree before you went in. I know with the army at least you get many more benefits based on your education level. I think that you should be proud of your accomplishments and you didn't come off as a bragart at all. Free cash flow = Cash flow - capital expenditures - dividends. Â You have to take it easy on me, I'm an internal auditor, not a CPA! Semper Fi<span id='postcolor'> It sounds easy but to calculate it is difficult since you got different percentages that you need to apply on Net income so you got to move back from Cashflow to net income and the forward again to get Free Cashflow. Kind of sucks! Analysts dont even realy know what they should use it for, they say to clarify the income of a company if they try to hide bad performance by not paying those expenditures and divids. I asked this question because it was one of the things that we had on every stupid examen and that fucks up your premade Excel-sheet (we are allowed to use Laptops). Everyone had pages of pages of prepared formulas in their Excel sheets to spare time during the examen, but something like this could destroy it all! THAT IS WHY IS PUNISH EVERYONE WITH IT: YOU MUST SUFFER LIKE I ONCE DID! YOU ALL MUST FEEL THE HURT INSIDE OF ME THAT ACCOUNTING HAS CAUSED!
