Hit 3 years today

Recommended Posts

I was reading some thread and someone commented on how much military knowledge I had for my age. It reminded me that today I hit three years in the military. I just earned my first service stripe. Wow, it doesn't feel like it has been three years. Yes three years ago today I was some green high schooler that had no idea what he was getting himself into.

I am an Intel Analyst in the Military Intel detachment of my battalion. This is just temporary while I go to college. I am also a qualified infantryman. I shoot sniper riles on my own time, and I study the tactics on my own as well as learning from snipers in my unit. When I go back to go through selection I am going to try to get a Target Interdiction School slot. My assigned weapon in my unit is the M240B. I really fell in love with it. I am proficient in most foreign and domestic small arms though.

Congratulations!, Army apprenticeships will most likely guarantee you a job. Minimum age is only 17 and atleast a year 10 education. What are you waiting for people? Contact your local Army Recruitment office and enlist. smile.gif

What's her name?

In Finland we have this assault rifle, RK 62, pretty much same as AK 47/74..

Mine was called Elsa. It's pretty popular name for assault rifles in Finland, at least was in my unit.. smile.gif

It was a real love/hate relationship, as I felt

pretty relieved when I returned the gun..

(

Do the Finnish forum members know this:

Elsa, olet kohtalon lapsi...

)

I haven't named the 240 yet. Afraid that my own personal sniper rifle "kate" might get jealous.

Lol this reminds me of a high school buddy of mine who enlisted in the Canadian forces last year, during basic training he made a question about his "gun" and his drill sargent chewed him out:

"You do not have a   GUN, you have a C-7 assault RIFLE! You will LOVE your rifle! You will give it a GIRL's NAME...."

Heh, always cracked me up, especially since his luck with girls was never the best, but thats way offtopic  wink.gif

How is that training like in SFAS, other than the US Spec Op, where else can I experience it? I really want to test my determination, courage and preserverance. BTW, i am 17 year old guy in Canada, Grade 12.

Yeah that would be mine. Thanks for the info on the other thread. How much longer do you plan to stay in anyway? Will we celebrate 4 years for you next year?

You meant to say:

1 rank below sergant, Sir! tounge.gif

(I was sergant - well actually 'värnpliktig fänrik' now, which is enlisted second lieutenant - they promote you up one step after you leave the service here)

Btw, ussoldier, why didn't you go to the academy? It seems to me that the best way of making a military career is as an officer...

I actually recieved a service nomination to Westpoint from the Secretary of the Army in 2000. I decided not to go because I didn't want to put up with four years of B.S. when I can do ROTC and stay in a spec ops unit without having to go into a conventional unit. Sure a Westpoint degree will write you a ticket to a career in Washington, but that is no fun.
