Water Effect after fresh installation?

Recommended Posts

I installed ARMA 2 legitimate copy bought from Best Buy Canada and have been experiecing the FADE water effect after 20 minutes of game play on my PC. Tried to get BIS tech support but no dice, no one replies to my emails, I know you guys are busy but com'on I went to four stores to get this game and paid full price. Least you can do is help me out a little...

Anyway I installed the fresh copy onto my Windows XP professional PC. Play the first mission in campaign and within 20 minutes all the structures become watery and my vision is blurred. I know its not a video card/resolution issue as I've ran much higher spec games on this rig and have never had problems.

Tired updating to 1.05 after fresh install and problem still persists. I'm looking into getting the new OP Arrowhead but I'm just peeved that I can't get this copy going properly without mods...

May I ask what higher spec games you have ran on your computer because I'm having trouble thinking of any.

Check out "arma2.rpt" for error messages. That file is located in your arma2 profiles folder.

Edit: i jus read your post again, it comes on within 20mins... ill try that delete config and see if it works for me

Crysis, and forgot to mention was 4870 512 crossfired. I've disabled one card to see if its that problem but its not.

Its not even in the distance, I can tell its fade because it gradually gets worse after each restart.

Try disabling Post Processing. It's likely that you may be encountering an issue that's making it like you were hit by a bullet (blurry vision), but disabling post processing should get rid of that effect.

Also try setting your video memory to default or hig when this occurs (try each setting)

Other than that, what are your video settings (resolution, 3d resolution, AA, texture detail, etc)?

1600X900

AA2

AF2

Normal for all except shadows is High

Post processing is High

How do I disable Post processing altogether, if I remember correct the drop tab only goes to LOW.

By the way I really appreciate all the help of the members here! It is my dream to one day be able to play SLX and ACE2 at the same time, but until I solve this issue its nothing but a dream.

I got it working finally, reinstalled Windows XP, Install game from Disc, install 1.05 patch, and right now all I've got running in terms of mods are

SLX

CBA

and FFAA's terrorists, Isla Duraa (sp?)

I want to try to get ACE running but I'm not sure if it'll trigger that horrendeous Fade water effect, its funny because I remember now that the accuracy doesn't get affected....

First time that I've ever heard of a Fade water effect. Do you have any screenshots? But everyone has heard of Fade causing more than slightly inaccurate shooting :p

but I'm just peeved that I can't get this copy going properly without mods...

Don't think a mod will help with Fade.

The only water (or, wavy) effect I know of is when your stamina is low, due to intense running i.e. And that I think requires post processing.

Hey all thanks for all the help I solved the problem by using that Addon Sync thing and now everything is running somewhat smoother. Now I just gotta figure out the new crossfire problem. Every now and then my game goes into the "RECEIVING" load screen every 30 mins or so, only happens when crossfire is active. Two cards 4870 512mb

Like CG says the wavy effect is when you get tired from running too much - not FADE. Blurry screen is either due to post processing effects set to HIGH or 3D resolution set below 100% - wich it is if ARMA2 decides your computer isnt up to spec at the resolution that is set.

solution: Turn off (very low) post processing effects (video settings), and set the 3D resolution to match your resolution wich means 100% (also in video settings).

Mods & addons do not cause FADE (wich isnt about getting a wavy screen btw) unless you "mod" the ARMA2.EXE wich will most definatelly activate the games protection.

Crysis isn't a higher specs game. I can play Crysis with everything on Very High but I can only play on normal/high on ArmA II.

Ok guys water effect solved. New problem

I randomly go into the "RECEIVING" screen every 30 mins or so on my crossfired cards. Turned off CF no problem. Anyone know a good workaround?
