suchey 0 Posted April 15, 2002 -40 pluss players probably isnt really a possibility...32 is about as high as you can go and even then you will probably experience decreased performance with this many players. -the "recommended stats to host a dedicated server are stated as follows by BIS: You need a Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer to run an OFP dedicated server. We recommend using at least PIII 800Mhz machine, with 256Mb RAM and a 256kbps upload network bandwidth. -connection wise, go for as much as you can afford. -the stand alone server software available at flashpoint1985.com will allow a dedicated server to run without a CD present...you will need to install form a working CD of OFP first, then install the stand alone server software. -regarding bugs, 1.46 seems to run pretty well for me...there will always be bugs on some folks PCs due to the sheer variety of system configs/hardware, however OFP runs good for me. suma 8 Posted April 16, 2002 WATchAS, welcome to OFP online community. I hope you will find soon that many people here are willing (and able) to help you with various dedicated server issues - often more able than we are, as they have what we lack - experience of running dedicated server with many users. Lt_Damage 0 Posted April 16, 2002 In my experience nothing is free of bugs. The Gold edition and the latest update to 1.46 are quite stable. I run a dedicated server in Australia. It is running version 1.49 which is a beta version Suma released to try and improve server performance and uptime. The players run 1.46 which is the latest version available for the people connecting to the server. So far the server is running fantastic, it is amazing how hard it works for you when you have a lot of players online. When you buy this game you will be quite impressed by the level of support provided by Suma and the rest of the team. You may experience bugs occasionally, but you will never encounter a team more dedicated to fixing them than Suma and the rest of the developers. Lt_Dan_Sweden 0 Posted April 17, 2002 Hi Regarding the "You need a Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer to run an OFP dedicated server. We recommend using at least PIII 800Mhz machine, with 256Mb RAM and a 256kbps upload network bandwidth." I run a dedic succesfully on a Win95 with 850 Mhz and 256 Ram. I love the XP for my regular desktop, but for the dedic I like win95 since it has less over-head. Do not comprise o 256kbps on upload, 1-2 Mbit = top performance, no need for more since OFP dedic doesnt use it. Spend money on CPU instead.

Lt_Damage 0 Posted April 18, 2002 ROFL!! *cough* erm.. How many players is on this dedicated server on Win95? I wouldn't use Win95 to check my email...
Lt_Dan_Sweden 0 Posted April 18, 2002 Between 10-18 players dependin on the mission type. If many Choppers and Tanks are present a max is 10. With 5-10 players I have 50 FPS. I have XP on my other computer a 1GHz with 768 of Ram, and there is practially no difference in perfomance. If you have a good connection like i do (pings down to 11 ms from other broadband connections in Sweden) the CPU is the limiting piece. Not the OS version. Go ahead and try before judging.
