Do suppressed weapons have a muzzle flash?

Recommended Posts

In Arma 2, when you fire with a suppressed weapon, the point of light that is visible at long distances is removed. There is still, however, a large, illuminating glow that originates from the firing chamber. I'm talking about fighting in complete darkness hear, so is this realistic?

And whether or not this light is the cause, a pair of NAPA fighters fired at my exact or near-exact location after I fired just two subsonic rounds, nearly noiseless shots from a VSS Vintorez at 200m. Two shots is the magic number that will give the enemy a precise sitrep with a non-suppressed weapon as well, mark you.

The only difference was that after first returning fire, my targets ran around frantically, seemingly having lost contact and only knowing my general direction.

Edit: And I am getting annoyed by a really mind-bending glitch that doesn't seem to have been added to devheaven yet. When any cannon round ricochets, which happens a *lot,* it explodes twice.

It even works with HEAT 120mm tank rounds. There will be one explosion on the ground, then another on a hillside 500m distant, all from the same shell. You see it constantly with GAU-8 and Apache cannons.

The ACE team will no doubt sort this little error out with one of their next releases.

You misinterpret the dust cloud you see. This is not supposed to be a explosion but the dust when a near 500g heavy bullet hits the dirt. So yes, everytime the bullet hits the ground, such a dust-off will happen. AFAIK the regular ammunition of the GAU-8/A Avenger (and other gatling guns for that matter) don't use HE rounds by default.

So what you describe is not a bug, it's a feature.

Agreed, and I love it.

I highly doubt it. The explosion at the point of ricochet is identical to the one at the final impact.

Are you telling me that a 120mm HEAT shell or 30mm HE cannon round bouncing off dirt is going to create a tongue of flame and cloud of smoke equal to that of the explosive going off?

I suppose it is possible that the engine prevents ricochet impacts from having a different effect than impacts that 'kill' the round, and thus uses the explosion to represent what should be a much smaller dust cloud. But that is definitely not the most obvious explanation. It should be tested.

This bug was present in ArmA 1, even for 40mm grenades. The big difference in a bounce and a ricochet is the sound is makes :p I haven't witnessed it in ArmA 2, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was there.

Well the 40mm won't even bounce off of a leaf. :)

I just did some testing and the 40mm grenades fired from a mk19 do bounce, but they do not explode twice. The explode only on their final landing. I'm using one of the first betas after 1.05.

LOL true, you'd have to shoot on the very edge of a tree(talking leaves here) to have a chance of grenade going through :p
