Fade Protection acting bizarrely?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I bought a copy of ARMA II (DVD Copy) From my like Electronics Boutique (Hastings, Victoria, Australia) and after being online the last couple days and suffering a few (as far as i can tell) vista related bugs, nothing I'm too worried about but it was something today that had me startled.

I logged into games.on.net Arma2 #1 NO ace which is where i'd focused my attention, and after people requested a restart, then waiting a while, then spawning us, then restarting again, i got spawned as a bird....

this happened a couple times, and both times I had to quit the game and log back in, I'm wondering (without any technical info here..) if it's a bug? if anyones heard of it?

I'm sorry if this should be posted related to the MP mode they are using (Warfare BE V2.057 Lite) but I don't wanna screw around with fade and wreck a perfectly good game.

I'm "speed limited" internet wise at the moment, normally at near 2mb/s but past my download cap.. running an Intel dualcore 8400GS at 3.0ghz, 3gb ram and an Nvidia 8600GT 512mb VRAM

I dont want to say "someone hacked me" because I've only played it online yesterday and today... there's no way... it's just being funny...

I found this at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1219543.html and get none of the rest of it, just the being turned into a bird thing, hell is it just "civilian" or "spectator" mode for warfare?

"feddy writes...

BTW what is fade

Fade is a copy protection system that causes the game to act strangely when it detects cracks and/or invalid serials. Stops you from aiming, messes with controls, drops all graphic settings to low etc. Basically makes the game un-playable.

Don't worry. If you get spawned as a bird, that's a bug on the server.

If you have FADE you won't spawn as a bird. You'll be playing multiplayer for at least a little while then you'll randomly die got no reason and turn into a bird.

Among the first things happening AFAIK is that your aim will go bad. Very big dispersion. Cant hit anything. Also there should be a message on the screen at some point i think saying the game is not legit.

There are controls specifically for the bird so thats included in the game. ;) However it might turn you into a bird after a while if you get FADE - wich you get if you didnt buy the game. If its legit - dont worry.

yeah I had a bit of a fly second time around, thought it'd be a great way to TS locations of enemies to allies.... can you set servers to kick people that turn into birds? I've seen a kick duplicates option, but in my case it wouldn't kick me as i wouldn't show as a duplicate.

Kick duplicates is just in place to remove ghosts. If a person gets disconnected then reconnects straight away it can often leave a ghost. Basically the server thinks the person was never disconnected and leaves them in game, then when the person rejoins it creates a duplicate.

Turning into a bird when dead is just the default way killed players is handled. Many missions have a respawn or spectator script.
