red oct 2 Posted April 12, 2002 to solve a temporary fix on area w/ problems of over population, there are plane to make a giant cruise ship to serve as a basicly a moble country. i believe the concept came from japan i dont remember, but heres some info on the boat, it will be able to grow and produce most of its own food for the residents, it will have jobs onboard for employment for currency, they will you "credits" that are stored in computers, you will use a credit card to make purchases the ship will have its own airfield on board on the top deck it will have police forces, hospitols, fire fighters, schools, and a college it will of course be a mobil boat that will make journies around the globe the ship will have its own resources for which to make repairs if needed the pros of this: school children would probaly get the best education seeing as who that the ship will be making many different visits to countries, kids will get a hell of a school field trip as well as adults may be able to visit places they always wanted to go without the hassel of getting cruise or plane tickets to their destination. may also solve problems for people who hate living in cities w/ very high air polution and traffic, on the ship people will i guess drive little golf carts the cons of this: a boat this size would be a very popular target for terrorists it may be very expensive to live here what would happen if the boat was caught in a hurricane? there are many pros and cons to this, but i like to think of this on the bright side as a rather neat idea
USSoldier11B 0 Posted April 12, 2002 Aren't we talking about Japan?
LordZach 0 Posted April 12, 2002 i can see it now...another decaprio movie...ugh
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 12, 2002 Japan has other solutions. They apply Umetate chi (or something) which is taking land from the centre of the country (mountains) and use it to earn land on the cost. This is the way how they got enough space for the new airport. Another way is to put sticks into the beach where floating sand  gets caught and slowly the ground rises. But the monster-boat you are talking about is indeed an authentic idea. Very odd but it will be squared. However this is purely a tourism project, nothing else than an oversize Cruise-ship (not moving by itself but being pulled or static). This is not an odd idea since Cruising in the fastest growing sector within the tourism industry. New ships are planned and built every year and often double in capacity! If you want to make money and you are an investor, this is where you find it! Since I work in the tourism industry I remember having watched a presentation on the cruising industry. And they realy mean it serious when they present those monster-ship-projects!
Wobble 1 Posted April 12, 2002 not really a country.. more like a medium sized city.. and yes super ritch only (obviousley).. it *will* have its own airport that the largest commercial airlines can land on (747 carrier landing lol! I doubt it will ever see the light of day.. as for a hurricane? well aside from probably being able to get out of the way.. something for something of that size a hurri would be a mild squall.. Wobble 1 Posted April 12, 2002 wholly shit! sorry for the pic size, XP autoscales
Frizbee 0 Posted April 12, 2002 Actually, the last news report I read on that ship said that it was currently under construction at unknown ship yard(s). Basic level apartments, without kitchens will start at around US$380,000 (per year (I think)), rising to 3.8 Million US dollars for the most luxurious suites. expendable 0 Posted April 12, 2002 There is something oddly familiar with this... Ever heard of Titanic... or seen Babylon
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 12, 2002 the Victory of Carnival Cruise lines is already above 100'000 tons and therefore could accomodate the titanic three times. This ship, the America World City (ugly name) will have 250'000 tons!!!! It is a decided project! I am trying to find the image of the squared ship I was talking about! If someone finds it.... barret 0 Posted April 12, 2002 It's quiet amazing, the largest ships right now are the CVN NIMITZ CLASS SHIPS in the united States Navy.unlike the freedome, it has 4 screws with 2 nuke engines. According to TLC (the learning channel) the free dome ship will have million's of little "Electronic Pods"which can swivel to differn't directions. But hearing the word electric scared me, what if a storm hit the ship, all elevtricity went out, the genarators flooded, and the ship became stranded in the middles of the artic ocean? And they said the runway can only hold turbopros, so no means of aid. And to add to that, all of thes airplanes and people (the american people will take up the most weight even if they weren't the most people )would break the hull, especcialy since the hull is flat, no groves, and is this huge pentagon shape. To put it's size in to perspective, the United States Naval ship testing center couldn't hold a model of it in their huge testing tanks! You can fine more here . Wobble 1 Posted April 12, 2002 cant really call a tanker hull a boat.. you can call it ugly as dong shit though :_( LOL as for "Actually, the last news report I read on that ship said that it was currently under construction at unknown ship yard(s)." yea.. like area 51 and UFOs.. if it was being build it would be ALL OVER the media.. I havent heard a word about it.
LordZach 0 Posted April 12, 2002 how about half boat? maybe they're assembling parts of it in different places so not to draw attention, and then plan to put them together at some secret facility?
barret 0 Posted April 12, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (LordZach @ April 12 2002,19:13)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">is it bad when a cruise liner weighs more than a carrier?<span id='postcolor'> try to rember, there are no swiiming pools, no french restarunts, no fancy carpets on a carrier, those add weight, the carrier is still longer, and it can go quiet faster. Also rember, the carrier has 2 Nuke engines, how many turbines do you think the crusie ship have (answer comming soon)
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 12, 2002 I know, we always read those cheap articles about the 'planes of the future' and 'hotel in space' and 'Chinese wall used as a antenae' but with the cruise-ships is the truth. In Germany (of course, great Germany, shut up Albert (my real name is VAL)) they built those mega-cruises and they already need to enlarge a whole area because the water is not deep enough for future projects, and they gonna come very soon. Anyway, there will never be a civillian ship which is larger than a military one cause Cruise-ship (exceeding a certain amount of brutto registre tons) by definition must be military equipment. I know it sounds odd but believe me it is true. That is why you have the military authority-line on all big cruise-ships. And, in case of a serious war the military is allowed to make use of them. I am not talking bullshit!!! I had a course on 'cruise-ship tourism'and that part I remember. I wish I could state a source so you could verify!
red oct 2 Posted April 12, 2002 as far as i know and from the article i read, this ship is going through, its probaly still on the blueprints, and its gona fit millions and millions of people, this is gona be a big mofo boat, bigger than what anybody could amagine. i think the lenght will be at least 4 or 5 miles long, on the concept picture, the showed a pic of the bahemoth boat along side it, a cruise ship that was once the largest, if i could make a crude scale i would but the forum will allow me soo many spaces, its that big.
