WKK Gimbal 0 Posted April 10, 2002 AI goes berserk when they see an empty vehicle from enemy side. They attack empty jeeps and M2's, while ignoring hostile soldiers! Machine gunners just empty mag after mag upon a stupid empty truck. It didn't use to be like this ... did it? It seems rather silly. Anyone got a workaround? You can't group empty vehicles with civilian objects. "this setcaptive true" doesn't work either. It's like empty vehicles radiates with evil ooze, making the AI lose all senses! WKK Gimbal 0 Posted April 10, 2002 OK, I noticed that this only happens at night. The AI is unable to detect the vehicle is empty, so they start shooting :/ Still looking for a workaround though, as I would rather not have to change my nightmission to daytime! joltan 0 Posted April 10, 2002 I noticed that too. I had an enemy M2 (East), the gunner already dead for some time, and the friendly apc that came to help me (after the m2 gunner was already killed) started immediately shooting on the empty gun, ignoring all remaining hostiles in the area. It was a night mission, too.
kegetys 2 Posted April 10, 2002 I have seen this happen at daytime too. In my Lost Hope mission the East AI soldiers kept shooting the empty M2 Machine Guns forever, usually ignoring all the resistance soldiers. To fix this I had to change all the M2's into the (east) versions.
WKK Gimbal 0 Posted April 11, 2002 I can't change them to east, as then all friendly units would do the same, since the mission takes place in the same area. It's also silly that they attack the M2 with machineguns, as they'll never hit it - it's too thin. While they enemies lie there, you can just walk up to them and pick them out. Shrikey 0 Posted April 11, 2002 seen it too in a mission im playing around with... i stole a empty BMP-2 for my squad and then a A-10 blows me away.. i was resistance but NATO was supposeingly set to friendly..
jawk2 1 Posted April 11, 2002 seems a target bug... when i play (and i play air combat alot in OPF) the empty vehicule(those not worn thought) are set to be full and aggressiv in maybe 1-2 sec before it's identify as empty target. The AI doesnt have the mood to wait seems, and set order to put them down
WKK Gimbal 0 Posted April 11, 2002 If just the "setcaptive true" command would work on all items and at all ranges, basically turning the object into a gamelogic for the AI, then things would be sweet.
shadow 6 Posted April 11, 2002 I tried to tell BIS about this bug back when we were using v1.42 I think this bug first introduced in 1.42 I got the same problem, Gimbal. In my mission there is a west base overrun by the russians. A few west resources should still be there : a 5t-truck, and half damaged M113 and a badly damaged Kiowa. The area is patrolled by east-soldiers everywhere. When I (west-soldier) arrive at the base 5 minutes later all of the remaining equipment have been destroyed by the patrolls  -This is the sequel to the you-know-what-mission(at Figari), Gimbal
kegetys 2 Posted April 11, 2002 This bug seems easy to reproduce: Just place a group of two or three east soldiers into a map, with an AI leader (and you in that group too), and an empty M2 Machine Gun BEHIND them, a little distance away. Then start the mission, turn around and report the M2 Machine Gun to your leader with the double click of right mouse button. The AI leader tells you to attack it, if you have a third guy in your group he will attack it too. canukausiuka 1 Posted April 12, 2002 Has anyone tried the 'information age' thing? If you set it so that you already know about it in the beginning of the mission, maybe the ai won't engage it. Just a thought, I haven't had time to try it yet.

This works as long as you do not attempt to edit the unit inside the editor afterwards. This will crash the editor. Otherwise no problems.
Greg 0 Posted April 13, 2002 I noticed the attack on empty truck during an excellent day time mission by MilesTeg. Unfortunately my objective was to PROTECT the truck while it was loading fuel. I had to shoot 3 of my own men and send the rest away to stop them destroying it! You are right, I don't remember soldiers shooting at empty vehicles in older versions at all. I am just recalling a number of day and night missions where after a few minutes of peace after killing all the enemies in a base, my men began shooting at the vehicles and destroying them one by one. Very annoying when your sniper complains of no ammo half way through a mission after emptying his entire supply into a group of trucks I really hope BIS fixes some of these new anoying bugs it seems each version fixes one major bug and introduces two minor ones. I hope the focus doesn't shift entirely onto the 'next' game.
shadow 6 Posted April 13, 2002 Maybe this has something to do with the major AI-upgrade BIS did. I remember from a post Suma did (not 100% sure, but I think it was him) that he had tweaked the AI perception and the AI's ability to see and identify units. Before that AI "brain-upgrade" the AI could hit you from km's away as long as no object was between you and the shooter.
kegetys 2 Posted April 18, 2002 Suma, have you seen this thread? Would be rather important to get it fixed... The bug can also be reproduced by making an Mi17 flying near the castle at everon. The AI will attack the castle and waste all its rockets on it. If you fly the chopper youself, the castle is visible as an enemy object (red dot) in the radar.
